After the top 10 films thread I noticed that Seven was up there in many people's picks. I'd never seen it before (or even heard of it...perhaps Brad Pitt being in it made me automatically assume it was a heartthrob film and just skip over it on the shelves without even processing :D ) so I've borrowed it for tonight (yes, here it's still the night before over here) with your ratings in mind. Cheers to you all then :)

Good choice. I think Bradd Pitt is a very good actor in most of his movies.

Dangerous waters. The Men's Code clearly specifies that you can like:

Spy Game
Oceans Eleven
Fight Club
Seven
True Romance

BUT

You cannot under any circumstances like Brad Pitt.

Be careful out there.

Brad Pitt is a great actor (Snatch also comes to mind), but I thought Seven was a bit over rated.

Add Snatch to that list.

Thought provoking as always Mooster.

I have been in this position many times. When asked for a list of favorite actors, Mr Pitt is usually at the top of my list. He has featured, and been excellent, in some of my favorite flicks. Seven is genius, Fight Club is great etc etc.

A girl will nod approvingly occasionly, happy with my choice. Some will be shattered that I am perhaps of homosexual persuation (relieved, shattered, same thing). Blokes with no brains, or taste in their arse, will, without fail, call me a "homo" or a "***".

I am here to say Brad Pitt is farkin great.

Nice arse also FWIW.

Yes, his acting is fine. Let me clarify. You can like all of his movies. You can even make a decision to go to one of his films based simply on the strength that he is in it. However,

You cannot under any circumstances like Brad Pitt

Once again, be careful out there.

I guess Rob Lowe did set the tone though.

What a freakin' b@lls up! The tape wasn't working, I tried to fix it and I wrecked it. Now I have to fork out for a tape that didn't even work in the first place. Can you believe it??

So much for that idea

Seven is my alltime favourite movie - i absolutely think it is the best movie ever.

All the acting is great - Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt work great together while Kevin Spacey plays "John Doe" to absolute perfectoin.

the story is written well, good character developement. All loose ends are tied up at the end, but it still keeps the audience thinking.

Masterpiece of film making.

Seven is a brilliant film. It is good all the way through but apart from possibly the Usual Suspects it is the best end to a film ever

Go and watch "The Vanishing" the original Dutch version, NOT the Hollywood remake. Leaves 'Seven' for dead as an ending to a film... literally.

I watched the original Anglo-German production of Traffic called Traffik (1989). It was in about 4 parts (total of 325mins), and was much better than the Hollywood version, though, to be fair, the latter had to cram it all into two hours. Though definitely not as slick, there was much better character development in the Euro one, and it gave more of an account of the motives of the drug producers and smugglers (who, in this case were Pakistanis-Afghans sending the stuff to Hamburg, and not Latin Americans sending it to US). It looked at the growers' poverty, lack of other choices etc. instead if treating them as an unknown force that just produced drugs. But like I said, it had more time to do this.

I didnt like the end.... disturbing as all hell... thats like, who has seen "Unbreakable"? With Mel Gibson and Samuel L? Now that was a disturbing ending!!!! But a great movie all the same.

Watched it, finally. Quite ingenious (though kind of grotty and just plain ewww), and the acting was superb. The impact of the ending was blunted for me by the fact that someone in the thread gave away the ending (though it seems they later deleted it, alas not before I read it :( ).

The ending was actually the result of a tragic piece of miscommunication.

As it turns out Kevin Spacey misunderstood something said by Morgan Freeman. Spacey thought Freeman said,

"I wish I could be given Gwyneth Paltrows head."

What Freeman actually wished for was worded slightly different.

Tragic. :(
