Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?
The Cotchin rule...So what was the error of law that got Cripps off?

So basically now anytime a legal football incident occurs but there's 'potential'... 'POTENTIAL' for serious injury, its automatically a Tribunal offence?
If this is not the biggest slippery slope the AFL has ever created then I dont know what is...
Knee in the back of marking contest
Run down tackle
Kicking the ball into someone on the mark
chopping their arms in a marking contest
sliding into a tackle

Will be interesting to see if it lasts. 3 weeks for, all things considered, a pretty minor incident (no direct head contact and no injury) means that an actual hit to the head resulting in concussion should see, what... 6+?The way I see it, and I may be wrong, is that following giving Pickett just the 2 games, there was a lot of heat behind the scenes from lawyers, insurers and others considering an absolutely massive class action against the AFL has only just been lodged. When McAdam did something similar, but not as bad, they raised the bar to send a mesasge to all aAL players as well as the lawyers, arm chair critics etc and they will not back down now. In other words McAdam is the victim of the incompetence of the tribunal in not handing down the right sentence to Pickett and many ecconimc and political factors. The stakes are so huge he was never going to get a light sentence. I think it sucks, but these are the sad realities.
The big CFC on his chest would be pretty high on the listIn all seriousness, anyone know how Cripps
Got off?
John Ralph was pretty happy when he reported the news at 3/4 time
The AFL would get everybody’s respect if the 3 incidents were penalised under the same lens. Then if they’d really care about concussions and the legal consequences, should just come out and say “we’ve officially wanted bumps stamped out of the game; any bumps will incur 3 weeks or more depending on the extent of injury.”The way I see it, and I may be wrong, is that following giving Pickett just the 2 games, there was a lot of heat behind the scenes from lawyers, insurers and others considering an absolutely massive concussion class action against the AFL has only just been lodged. True, but I don't think this is the rationale. McAdam was the pawn, considering there were three such incidents in round one, to send a message to the comp (considering that they stuffed up by not sending the message via Pickett). Justice or consistency wasn't, I believe, the foremost consideration. It was all about sending a message and McAdam was the unfortunate one who ended up being the canary in the coal mine. Will be interesting to see if it lasts. 3 weeks for, all things considered, a pretty minor incident (no direct head contact and no injury) means that an actual hit to the head resulting in concussion should see, what... 6+?
Agree totally, but sadly that is not always the way politics work. When someone gets it wrong then others seek to cover the tracks. Would have loved them following the muck up regarding Pickett to say that following round one we are going to up the bar, so take even more care with the bumps, but the gutless wonders would never do this as I am sure their eyes are on the insurers and other powerful vested interests and Shane is the one to wear it relative to Pickett. The AFL would get everybody’s respect if the 3 incidents were penalised under the same lens. Make it a simple message instead of mixed messaging where fans and AFL players still don’t know what the * is going on!?
good points AlexWhat Shane did was pretty stupid knowing the current environment but it only deserved 2weeks The media and the fact it's still the VFL got him the extra week. The interstate clubs should depart this sham and form another comp that's equitable

Got off?
Here's another fun fact.
The Cripps decision which was overturned and let him get a brownlow? It was assessed as 'High impact', despite actually causing a concussion.
Apparently an actual serious injury is not as bad as the potential to cause serious injury.
We’ve come a long way in the year with studies on impacts of head injuriesHere's another fun fact.

Shone a light that the media will dim and put out.We were never going to win and I doubt we expected too. The problem wasn't McAdam's suspension, it was the gymnastics being performed to rationalise lesser penalties in the other ones.
We've shone a light on the inconsistency which I suspect is what we set out to do
