Shaq getting traded?????? (EDIT: Deal agreed to)

Report: Shaquille O'Neal could be getting traded

MIAMI (AP) -- Shaquille O'Neal is prepared for the Miami Heat to trade him, a confidant of the 14-time All-Star center told The Associated Press on Tuesday night.

O'Neal's associate, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to reveal anything publicly, indicated a move could be imminent.

"Shaq thinks something will happen," the associate said.

The Miami Herald reported earlier Tuesday that the Heat are in "serious and ongoing" trade negotiations with the Phoenix Suns. A Heat spokesman said the team had no comment, and several Suns officials didn't immediately return phone calls from The AP.

The Herald report said the Suns would send Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to Miami in exchange for O'Neal, who is averaging a career-low 14.2 points and has been sidelined for the past two weeks by a lingering hip injury.

See LA were onto something.....

The Miami Heat's season has come to this: Shaquille O'Neal may be on the trading block.

Citing two sources close to the situation, the Miami Herald reported on Tuesday that the team has told the center that he should be prepared for a possible deal.

The Herald goes on to report that a trade of O'Neal to the Phoenix Suns for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks has been discussed. One of O'Neal's representatives told the newspaper that they were informed that talks with Phoenix were ongoing and serious.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that this scenario has been rumored for a week, but it will not work without major modifications due to financial restraints.

The Heat have a league-worst 9-37 record and have lost four straight. O'Neal has missed the last six games with a sore left hip. Heat coach Pat Riley said on Tuesday that O'Neal will undergo an MRI.

''We just want to back it up and see, after two weeks, what it shows,'' Riley said, according to the Herald.

O'Neal led the Heat to the 2005-06 championship, but he is averaging a career-low 14.8 points per game, while adding 7.8 rebounds in 32 games this season.

Trading O'Neal would open considerable salary cap room for Miami, which is due to pay the 35-year-old $20 million in each of the next two seasons.

This needs to go down for the Heat. They get an expiring contract at the end of the season with Marion who's set to make $17 million. After the season they are able to sign a big man such as Brand, and hopefully pick up Beasley in the draft. This could possibly be one of Miami's line-ups for next season:

C- Brand
PF - Haslem
SF - Beasley
SG - Wade
PG - Quinn

I hope this goes through as it gives Miami so many options and a chance to be an instant title contender at the beginning of the next season if they sign the right players. Remember a lot of star players are out of contract at the end of this season. If this goes through, Riley is a genius.

Suns, Heat agree to Shaq trade

No longer confident they can win a championship with their current roster, the Phoenix Suns have agreed to a blockbuster trade that will bring them Shaquille O'Neal, pending results of a physical, a source with knowledge of the negotiations said Tuesday.

O'Neal will travel to Phoenix aboard a private plane, the source said, to undergo an MRI on his ailing left hip Wednesday. If he passes the physical, the Suns will complete the trade by sending Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to the Miami Heat.

The Miami Herald first reported the Suns and Heat were in serious discussions regarding the trade.

Surely the Suns could have gotten something a bit more stable and less miles on the clock than Shaq.

I know its probably a bit of a salary dump but really Marion is worth far more than Shaq as a tradable currency.

They need a good inside defender. And hell, if they think they're getting that with Shaq at his age, then they can take him. :thumbsu::D

What a ****ing dumb move by Steve Kerr! Shaq is past it. He cannot run with the rest of the team and will only slow them down. I just don't see the logic in this move from Suns' perspective.

Understandably, Miami would be jumping all over this like a cheap suit!

Panic trade after the Gasol deal?

Panic trade after the Gasol deal?
Looks like it but seriously.....

I would think that current Suns team has more chance against the Lakers than the one with Shaq and without Marion! Maybe I am missing something here. Maybe the Suns get some sort of pick from the Heat as well

Chemistry is meant to be a big part of it.

Three stars (Amare, Nash, Marion) all with egos to match. Terrible trade for the Suns though. Surely could have got more.

If this went down in a fantasy league I'd veto it in a second!!

Miami Heat would be laughing

BTW... Heat is without doubt the worst name in the NBA

Yeah right, any worse then the Lesbians, sorry Lakers, or the New York Knickers ???

Heat is an allright nickname btw, and at least they have won a title in recent times :)

Could you imagine how dangerous a team Phoenix would become IF Shaq gets and stays healthy?

The Suns would instantly be championship favorites.

Steve Nash has a big ego?????

wow...

shaq and nash looks like a good duo on paper (though i would have never expected a combo like that).

Dude, that's probably the worst call I've ever read on BigFooty. Just thought I'd let you know.

And the only reason I give a crap about this trade is that Marion is the cornerstone of my fantasy team. I really can't make a call as to whether this'll help or hinder him. But you'd think with Nash not handling the point for him anymore, this is bad news for me.

Im sure D-Wade will find him the ball

...except that they're actually adding salary by taking on Shaq (20M for 2 more years).

This is probably the most mind-boggling trade (if it goes through) that I've ever seen, in any sport.
