Shaun Edwards

Already been discussed on main trade thread

I know that. Faith also confirmed we are into him. I think that warrants a dedicated thread like we have for the Polec, Henderson and Giles trades.

Mods feel free to merge but I think this one will happen. It's too obscure not to.

Think this is a better place to work out who Shaun Edwards actually is?

We are gunning for him by the sounds of it and we need a thread where we can get all paranoid about him :)

So is this a done deal yet?

I suspect he could be a pre-season pick for us unless GWS trade him for us Steven King style! Edwards' value would not be that big so I doubt GWS would be holding out for picks and there is not a comparable player they would want from us.

GWS is stacked with talent so it just might be a case of helping him get where he can get more opportunities by trading hims for a pick they won't use or upgrade of pick (eg our 3rd rounder for Edwards and their 4th and 5th rounder).

Having said that, GWS wouldn't know what a 3rd round draft pick would look like!

Supposedly he has some real pace, right? Would be worth a look provided he was cheap

He's got good size about the same as Hendo I think. Could be a great addition to the half back line

Could play multiple of roles, is equally good inside and on the spread

As others have said yes he is quick and gluides over the ground

Fantastic athlete with good all around skills is probably the best and simplest way I can describe him. In terms of size and shape he is basically the prototypical modern day midfielder. Think about him as more polished CEY sans the shonky kicking style (but with a similar need for improvement in that area). He has the same attributes as Hendo (maybe slightly slower) so the club probably sees him as undervalued replacement that can give us similar production with the same level of potential in the long run. Expect him float between HB and the wing (similar to Shaw). He probably won't be taking players on like Hendo did towards the end but with time and confidence I think he will add that to his game.

What price would you put on him?

Hope he keeps the nickname "Sleepy"

Last year I saw his "real" value at about a 2nd rounder but I doubt it would take that much to get him. I expect us to get him (if we do) for a pick upgrade (maybe 3rd rounder swap?). It all depends on what picks we can get our hands on but he won't cost us an arm and a leg judging by GWS' trade history

Perhaps a swap of Luke Thompson?

Why is he leaving GWS?
Probably because of lack of opportunity!

GWS and to lesser extent GCS are absolutely stacked with youngsters and could probably go two deep at most positions. I love the fact we are after some of their kids who might be lacking in opportunity.

Perhaps send a more experienced fringe type their way &/or upgrade our later picks.

Good move to target some quality GWS youngsters not getting a game.

I mean what's the knock on him. Why hasn't he been getting games?

GWS have to start culling their expanded lists, not take on more fringe players.
How about an experienced midfielder like Mackay & their early 3rd round pick.

He's got 40 1st round draftees in front of him at the selection table.
Who are getting flogged every week and being nursed through, none of them playing every game. And a couple on the move by the sounds of it.

I'm not trying to be smart. He played 10 games in 2012, 2 games this year.

There's some reason, which is why he's available to us. I've said all along that you can't recruit flawless footballers because they're never available.
