sounds like ACL to me, very unlucky

torn his hammy again behind the knee, so looked like an ACL.

Sounds like a really bad hamstring, will require surgery.

The guy just needs to spend a summer getting his body right and not sinking so much booze. They rush him back into the team every chance they get it and its not helping.

His body is never going to be right. This is his third or fourth hammy injury in about 5 years and those years have also been interspersed with back problems.

The lower it is the better with hamstrings in general.

But if its that low it could be tendon area, yikes

He's sidelined for 8-10 weeks minimum - had an operation to repair ruptured hamstring tendon behind right knee yesterday according to CA. Return to cricket to be at a date to be determined after that. IPL looks doubtful - anyone know when and where the winter Aussie A tour is going? (Well I assume there will be one somewhere).

Would be a pretty big call if they picked him in the Ashes squad, but if he's right to go he should certainly be going to the Champions trophy.

I did tune into the IPL to see how Shaun was going in his return, saw him play his typical T20 innings - start steady, but then really get going after the halfway mark and nearly got his side over the line with David Miller. Really is one of the most consistent T20 batsman going around in T20 cricket, shame he doesn't have the consistency in the other formats. Still hold out hope though.

It's all largely between the ears for S Marsh, if he gets it right he can get back to the top.

Yes, he played the kind of innings I now expect from him. The only bowler he really took apart was the part-time spin of Raina. If he'd taken more risks against the other bowlers, they wouldn't have faced 19 runs off the last over.

I'm not saying it wasn't a good innings, it was but it also showed his inability to judge risk against better bowlers. It's what stops him from really succeeding in international t20.

2nd best bat in Aus when in form.

Look, I know we are a bit rubbish batting-wise, but this is Shaun Marsh we are talking about. The guy who averaged 27 in his 7 tests - One Century and One 50. The Guy who averages 36 in Shield cricket. The guy who has made 6 Shield centuries in 67 games. Even when in form, he was never that good.

Seriously, I know he looks a nice bat when going, but he was lucky to get a chance, didn't really take it, is almost 30 and has no further future for Australia. (Before you bring up Rogers' name, he averages 48 in the Shield, and has made 30 Shield centuries in 114 matches).

One-Day cricket - OK, different story. He's OK. (Although interestingly, Rogers has a higher average in State One-Dayers in Australia).

I agree. Both the Marsh boys look a million bucks when they are switched on but lets see them really concentrate in first class cricket. How a player looks means nothing if he can't produce the goods.

You got a better name to chuck forward.

Marsh has it all and when in form is amazing.

Mentally weak as poo and body cant hold up

He has it all - except the ability to make enough runs. Remember his 100 on Test debut? Nearly 2 years ago? That was his last FC hundred - hasn't made one for Australia, in the Shield - anywhere - since.

If you want better names, try these

Mark Cosgrove, Callum Ferguson, Steve Smith, Michael Klinger, Andrew Macdonald, Adam Voges, oh, and that Dussey bloke - all have Shield records as good or better than S Marsh. That's just to pick the blokes who are around the same age or older. None of them are in the current UK touring squad, so the selectors think there are about 8 batsmen better than those......

Then there are the young blokes who deserve a chance - Doolan, Burns, Maddinson, fill-in-your-own-teams-young-gun....

Marsh had his chance - wasn't up to it. Next.

Sorry, that's just drivel. Please let me know when he was in form.

The guy has never made more than 2 centuries in a season (and he only did that once - back in 2004/2005). When has he had a period where he was a consistent big-run scorer? (He's been a consistent small-run scorer - the season just past for example).

I don't care how stylish he is - effectiveness is making runs. He doesn't make enough.
