I was just wondering what peoples thoughts on whether the crows should move Mckernan to another SANFL club next year. After watching South play the past few ocassions on the ABC it just appears that McKernan is always going to struggle in a side like that. Today South were so bad that I stopped watching them at half time. It appears to me that they are so far below any of the other sides in the competition that it is an embarrasment to the SANFL. I know Ron Fuller is a good coach but he just doesn't have much talent to work with down there.

I think the Crows should make the decision to start playing Mckernan in the Crows side or move him to another SANFL club where he can develop in a decent side. I know the same applies to Myke Cook and Daniel Talia but I just get the feeling that McKernan is going no where at the Panthers.

It's probably not a bad idea. Good to see how they go with a decent side around them. Not great for the comp though.

Very much a required player, Griffin is keeping his spot warm. Definitely consider a move if it's going to help his footy.

...all the way to Arden Street.;):thumbsu:

You had your chance and the choice was Sam Wright who will be a good player anyway.

I'm pretty sure I heard once before if North selected McKernen, Rendell would have gone with Sam Wright.

So does anyone actualy know if he's injured or what the injury might be? Because he definitely wasnt out there after quarter time.

This is excatly why we need our own reserves team.
Until that happens we need to have our youngsters at the stronger SANFL clubs like Centrals, Norwood and Sturt.

I spoke about this issue a few months ago.

The boy is a confidence type player. The more He is around the action the better he is.
His best performances for South have been when he is around the ball eg ruck or if south are pumping the ball to him in the 50.
They play him usually deep in 50 and because they arent a good team, in many games they hardly get the ball deep in the 50, giving him no chance to show what he can do.
Warren and Coschell playing his position also doesnt help.
I said before so many times you see him standing in the 50 for so much of the game just waiting for quality delivery but south arent good enough.
There is no doubt they are stalling his development, if he was at central or eagles etc he would have played 5-10 AFL games by now.

He is a better player at the moment than Hendo and Gunston and yet they have played more afl than him because they can show their true qualities within a club like central.

Its starting to be a concern, he is frustrated and the more the crows allow this to happen i get the feeling he will just leave or give up.

Trust me this guy has special qualities and if they give him a go in the AFL he wont let them down, he is a special talent.

Also you cant really compare Cook/Talia to Shaun because their positions are mainly in the midf or Defence where they get plenty of opportunites to show their quality.

I wonder if the crows can organise some sort of transfer eg Shaun to Eagles, Jacky to South etc?

I'm sure the crows are all over it. They see the games he p[lays and know how shite South are. They have to keep him as he has more of an upside than Sellar or Griff and he is still young. Crows must hang onto Smack and they will.

I dont agree with this comment.
McK should have been given a go ahead of Gunst and Hendo early in the year, and now even Sellar is ahead of him in the pecking order.

Imagine if he was in the central or Glenelg side getting 10 times as many quality opportunites in 50 to do his stuff.

OP is right. Absolutely vital that McKernan switches SANFL clubs next season.

Noarlunga is no place for a key forward to develop. Always blowing a gale to one end so half the game you don't see the ball and the other half the ball is floating all over the place.

He never earned a go with form, had perhaps two good games in an otherwise lacklustre and at times disinterested season. Suggesting he should have gotten a go ahead of Gunston and Henderson earlier in the year is like suggesting Petrenko should have gotten a go ahead of Sellar and Griffin.

Different types of player, different spots on the ground.

McKernan sits behind Tippett, Walker, and even Burton and Hentschel as a key forward, and behind Maric, Griffin, Sellar and probably Moran as a ruckman.

I'm not particularly sold on him, wouldn't really be all that bothered if he left for the league paupers at Arden St, but if he does decide to stick around next season then changing SANFL clubs won't really cost anything, so why not - however, if we're going to start moving our players all of the time, especially as was suggested above to just 2 or 3 "strong" clubs, the SANFL is going to get jack of it mighty quickly.

I'm not sure what happened to McKernan today as he disappeared off the ground during the first quarter and didn't re-appear. On the Adelaide Now website they are saying he had the flu which would be a weird reason as to why he only played a quarter

Who knows...maybe Griffin is under a cloud again (or another tall), Sellar is in and McKernan had to quickly pull out of game time yesterday in case another 'Hale' scenario eventuated.

Or more likely he has an injury himself!

I wonder how Jack Gunston would've gone if he had been taken by South Adelaide in the mini-draft. I think he would've really struggled to be honest and his development would've been a lot slower than what it has been at Centrals. Same more than likely would've applied to Hendo. I think its okay when our midfielder draftees are taken by the Panthers in the mini-draft but I've got my doubts it a good idea for the key position draftees to play down there.

I know theres people out there that will say if Mckernan is any good he would be able to work through it and still show how good a player he is but as I think FAITH said when he is stuck in the forward 50 relying on the Panther midfielders to get the ball down to him he is always going to struggle. If Mckernan is going to continue to play down at the Panthers he should mainly play in the ruck. The game he played last year against Centrals when he did play in the ruck he had 23 possessions, 6 or 7 marks and kicked a couple of goals and looked absoulutely brilliant.

Noarlunga ia no place for ANY young player. The sooner we can get our players out of this basket case of a club the better.

Disagree, South worked out magnificently for Andy Otten and David Mackay. And has serviced Myke Cook and Nathan Van Berlo well.

Playing in a basket case allows our blokes much earlier opportunities at league footy and means they're often the most important blokes in their team!

I think our midfielders can do okay down there but I dont think our key position players are going to develop down there at the Panthers.

Forgive my ignorance, but I hardly think 'We want to move Shaun Mckernan because South are shit' is going to work with the SANFL.

Imagine Gunston or Hendo 1 out in South forward line.....No chance!
There is no doubt McK was ahead of these 2 guys at start of season when they got their oppty.
People speak about his attitude but imagine how you would feel playing with south inside their 50?

It's criminal that a player with his ability is left wallowing in the SANFL while Griffin lopes around like a ****ing insipid giraffe wearing a clown hat for the Crows.
