Read this story yesterday and it hasn't been mentioned here (at least I don't think so) and it just reminded me of the whole Hardwick situation. Personally, I still haven't forgiven Sheeds for getting rid of Dimma a player who is willing to sacrifice himself for his teammates shouldn't be treated like that.

The story fails to mention that we had to loose someone because of the salary cap.

Wasn't Solomon offered a 1 yr deal?

If he accepted he would have become a life member. Not really the actions of someone who "only wanted to be a life member of the club".

I think Shaw is trying to stir the pot for whatever reason.

Shaw was also part of the coaching team that got rid of Dimma at the time. As said earlier, it was due to salary cap pressures after a successful (if short lived) period of 3 years in Preliminary and Grand Finals.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story

I can't see any untruths in the story, maybe the omission of the odd fact or two. It ended up a great move by Hardwick anyway, unlike poor old Steve Carey. Every time I hear Hardwick, the more impressive he appears. Put him down as possibly our next coach.

I think Hardwick will be a very good coach.

Fits the whole back pocket - super coach thing. Oh and two Flags at different clubs wouldn't hurt his predigree.

I don't know about Neale coaching the Bombers, there was a blog about it in the HS a few days ago I think, besides he's got a very very good young brigade coming through at the Dee's right now I'm predicting a premiership for them in 2008... Anyway, I would like to see our next coach not have any affiliation with Essendon at all, I think we need a new coaching culture at the club - I would love Sheedy to stay on board in a limited role however, he may be waning as a match-day coach but his ability to rebuild a list is second to none.

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks that there was absolutely nothing to this supposed "swipe", that it was just a bit of playful fun for Shaw to send back at his old mate? Certainly not worth worrying about anyway.

You're not the only one, the headline made it look like there was a whole lot more in it than there really was.

He basically just said he hopes Solly makes the same impact at Freo that Dimma did at Port.

It wasn't Sheedy's fault Dimma was let go. I don't know what planet Robert Shaw is on (it must run in that family - the smart mouth, just like cousin Tony's) but we were well over the salary cap and other clubs didn't want the players Essendon put up in Trade week. Port asked for (and got) Dimma simply because of our inability to stay under the cap.
Sheedy coaches the team, he doesn't handle the finances.

Nothing in it. All he had to go on with Solly was his time at Essendon as he hasnt begun to forge a career with Freo yet.
