What a great opportunity Melbourne has in securing Sheedy next year.

If it's a straight swap, Daniher for Sheedy, we can pick up a coach who could give us some immediate benefits and help set ourselves up for the next 10 -15years.

The immediate benefit is the change of coach in itself. Look at what happened in Daniher's first year when he took over from Balme - we made the prelim. final in '98.

Then there is the man Sheedy himself. What a marketable commodity. Much more so than Daniher has ever been for the club. Take the opportunity to grow our membership and sponsorships. And if we have some good performances straight off the bat under Sheedy, the growth could be significant.

Sheedy has a contract with Channel 7 (I think I'm right on this), so the club would get the benefit of his exposure on the major footy channel. Let's use him to our advantage.

He is a seasoned campaigner who isn't afraid to get the right support people around him in the footy dept.

The AFL would love us to get a proven name rather than an untried as it proves we are still persuing stability, which we have had to do as part of getting the $$ from the CBF.

And here's the best part. We give Sheedy a 3 year contract, which gives us 3years to put into place a strategy to find Sheedy's successor to take us past 2010 and beyond. And if Sheedy's doing the job, renew his contract, if not, we've had 3 years to plan for his replacement.

By then we would have our new facility at Olympic Park, some sustained on-field success, 35,000 membership base, heavy duty corporate sponsorship, and the club postioning itself to stay competitive and relevant well into the future.

Great to see a positive article on here for once, but getting a bit far ahead of yourself mate.

FWIW, I don't think Sheedy is done at Essendon yet and nor is Daniher at Melbourne, don't count the chickens before they hatch.

We can assess at the end of the year.

Yeah good thought but hopefully no. I really hope ND is gone at the end of the year he has done all he can and i even think he might step aside at the end of the year. I would love for a Longmire, carey or voss to coach the club prob not going to happen. Even Mark Havey. ND has been good but i believe he has never had a Plan B. Just while i am talking thumbs up to S.Godfrey played three great games in a row on great players and deserves a pulg.:thumbsu:

Daniher will not be going anywhere,he couldve signed on 4 3 more years in the pre season but decided to wait. which is a fairly strong indication the club wants him to stay. if he goes it will be because he wants to,not because the club doesnt want him...
