A travesty has occurred! The alledged doyen of football writing in this state, mike sheehan, has ranked Luke Hodge the fifth best player in the competition! Ahead of our own Matthew Scarlett, Jimmy Bartel and Joel Corey...also ahead of the likes of jonathon brown, matthew pavlich and nick reiwoldt! Astonishing to think a player who finished the year playing a "joel bowden role" due to his failure in the midfield could be ranked so highly!!!

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

Behind Ablett and Franklin the top 10 is pretty open, Hodge at 5 is probably fair enough though I'd personally probably rather have some of the other guys you mentioned.

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

You think Joel "loose ball get" Corey is a better player than Hodge?? What drugs are you on??

I don't agree with the OP, but outside of Geelong, Corey is underrated.

He won our B&F for a reason, easily in the top 20 in the comp.

I agree but better than Hodge?? He doesn't influence games like Hodge or any of the other top 5.

I'm not saying he isnt a very good player, but if he kicked more goals he would be rated alot higher

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

dunno wat youve been smokin if you think corey isnt an inside player, gets heaps of clearences!!! something hodge doesnt...

Ever heard of quality over quantity?

Corey probably had a lot more clearances but he still doesn't have the same effect that a Hodge or a Judd has on a match i.e 2008 GF....

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

As if you'd care about the shit Mike Sheahan writes.

EDIT: Jimmy Bartel and Joel Selwood isn't even in the top 10, so he fails right there.

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

Pavlich, Rooy & Brown ahead of Hodge. Easily

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

It's a predicition for 2009 not a list of the best players in the league. I don't think Hodge at 5 is too outragous. A good season could easily see him in 5th.

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

Yes, 5 isn't right for Hodge. Should be higher :)

An injunction prevented him from getting higher :p

Really who gives a fat rats. It's just one old hasbeens list of 50 he gets a stiffy over.If he has Dale Thomas in it then he should be put out to pasture with that other silly old fart Lou Richards.

2009 grand final? Geez, you Hawks supporters ARE arrogant!

:D

well whadderyer gonna do?

start a thread about a hawks player on the cats' board?

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

While I agree that Hodge is too high at 5, he is certainly top 10. I'd have it something like this (bearing in mind Sheahan's list was PREDICTIVE for 2009):

1. Ablett
2. Franklin
3. Judd - remember this is predictive
4. Pav
5. Cox
6. Reiwoldt
7. Hodge
8. Bartel
9. Brown
10. Scarlett

Anyway, no need to start a thread on our board about a Hawthorn player. Especially when everyone knows Mike Sheahan is a twit.

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

Seeing as I'm on the Cats board, two things.

1. Hodge should have been 2. Judd 4-8. Maybe a direct swap.
2. Selwood should have been 8-12.

My guess is Hodge has been downgraded as he won't play that dominating role all year (I hope). We don't want him done at 28 like Dermie. (Though I wouldn't complain about 5 premierships! :D)

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

Having Selwood in the 20s will be his worst prediction; he'll be top 5 by the end of the year IMO.

Yeah when I read Selwood's place in the list I couldn't help but SPIT MY MORNING LATTE ALL OVER THE LADY IN THE SEAT NEXT TO ME ON THE TRAM and then go back to reading the paper

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

I agree

Joel Selwood is my tip for the brownlow this year.

I believe that he is the most effective in his disposals than Bartel, Corey and Ablett.

I have watched the GF numerous of times, i still believe that he was your most effective player that day.

Love him , wish him the best and he comes across that he is the sort of person that couldn't care less about top 20 , awards ect

Yeah fair call. Hodge is a gun and stood up at the right time last year. For pure footballing ability, i wouldn't have him as high as number 2, but for his influence on a team i think its justified. Still, Judd was more consistent last year, played in a crap team, half injured, and with little to no support, yet still managed the most centre clearances and has turned an unprofessional bunch of hacks into something that could resemble a finals team. I agree with Mixmaster Mike here, Judd 2, Hodge 5.

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

Could be worse for you TEDDY24INC, Tim Watson on SEN this morning rated Hodge at #1. :D Not really based on superior performances, only that Hodge could play anywhere on the ground.

Re: Hodge rated no. 5

1. Think Hodge at #5 is fair enough
2. No Bartel top 10???
3. Agree on all on Selwood...could win the brownlow...after Friday night he could be the youngest player ever to hit FREAK status. Never seen (that i can remember) anyone who wants the ball more than that guy.

Just on a tangent...first 10 secs of Friday night GF - Max Rooke rooking someone in the centre square...where was that on the last day of September? I thought it set the tone, Pies knew they were in a game...
