"The hard, cold, brutal truth for Fremantle is that Gold Coast, now, is closer to a premiership than the flailing Dockers

And the three-year offer to Adam McPhee does little but remind us all just how bad the Dockers have been built.

Harvey's description of landing McPhee as a "coup" this week was flawed salesmanship that would have made even Terry Wallace cringe.
Did the Dockers not get suspicious at the lack of other suitors offering any type of term, let alone three years?

McPhee and the Dockers have gone back to the future. They are not so much the Dockers as the Shopper Dockets. Return the goods when no longer needed"

Cheap shots by Hutchy there ^

This morning I spoke to Hutchy on SEN and asked him why it was such a bad move to replace a delisted player (Foster) who had played 3 games in 3 years with a player who will fit directly into the best 22.

He said that Freo should go for youth, I replied that the days of Fremantle trading away high draft picks for players past their peak is over and that McPhee was coming to Freo via the PSD without the loss of a Draft pick.

Hutchy said that we should go for youth. I mentioned how many young players that Freo blooded this year and that the majority of our team will be young bodies that will need assistance from a more mature and physical player. Hutchy then said that get in youth and it does not matter if they get smashed and whoever is left will be your players. Not a mention about trying to win games just developing players. Can any team win a game of AFL with the majority being Rookie players?

Harvey was also under fire for being such a poor coach and that he would be fired before the end of the season. It would be excellent to give him a year extension just to get past this bashing before the season starts.

Another payout on our team without ONE single positive word about the excellent young players coming through or players like Pav and Sandi.:thumbsd:

We're getting him for nothing - Nanny McFree. It's not as if we are trading for him and giving up early draft picks or a required player.

3 years is a relatively safe bet compared to picking up an 18 year old in the 4th round of a shallow draft. Chances are that the 18 year old would not be on our list in the 3rd year of McPhee's contract.

Yes I thought it was a very poorly constructed article, it did not display all the facts then draw a conclusion. Yep the article is written for an audience and to get paper sales. Ah this type of article shows why I have refused to buy the West or Sunday Slimes for over 3 years !!!!.

I'm not a big stats man, but is anyone able to look at the last two drafts ( National + Rookie ), and work out how many kids we have got. Add to this, how many mature players, classing Broughton in the kid class ( inexperienced ).

What I am thinking is that we have had a large influx of kids, you need a small percentage of old buggers to hold their hands.

It seems to be the trend for everyone in the media to go after the Freo coach. But Hutchies modo seems to be "when there's nothing to talk about, let's make something up!"

You docker fans are always ripping the WA media, the worst and the slimes, but you would never find anything like that in either of those papers.

Amazing Hutchy and a few others spent thousands at Uni to earn a Mass Communication degree or somethig like that to serve up sub standard articles.... thats assuming they actually have any undergrad degrees...

I personally just don't get how they sleep at night. With writers like him, their job is to fabricate and/or exaggerate conflict. He has been caught out numerous times for spinning crap and many people in the footy world want to hurt him (as we saw recently on the footy show - I for one thought that was hilarious seeing the fear in his eye).

freo have not cleaned out their list according to hutchy.im pretty sure in the space of 24 mths.freo would've turned over at least half their list.is that a correct fact?

Pretty close to it.

In hindsight the cleanout has been perfect - even though I am not sure this was 100% by design.

We cut moderately in 2007 but this draft was shallow and it really dropped off about the time our 4th pick came. We secured 1 excellent player (Palmer), 1 good player (Mayne) with Kep (back up) ....Hinkley is the only one who is looking questionable.

We stuffed up getting MJ but again he left after a year if we had used a pick we would of been getting rid of that player this year (assumption is looking at the names that went after MJ is the player would not of been AFL calibre).

Last year when we put a sword through the list - we scored big time and already it is probably our best draft or 2nd best draft all time. The rookie draft alone would probably rate as one of our top 3 or 4 drafts.

Even the hardest of the hard Memories was advocating cutting 9 to 10 - we cut 14.

What happened?..i dont watch the show.

I remember one instance earlier in the year where Hutchy was chasing around Richmond players in ambush interviews thrwing around a few statements, just before Terry Tan was sacked, I believe. Big Richo was on the panel and he wasn't pleased about the way Hutchy conducted himself or what he said about the Richmond FC, so he said he would like to speak to him after the show or during the break or something like that. Hutchy refrained from further comment, but he had a glint of fear in his eyes like Fat Daniel when O'Loughlin screamed at him at the boundary.....

I think it was the Richo incident, where he warned him to show some respect and shut up when the tigers coach was sacked and that he needed to meet him after the show. Hutchy looked like he was about to cry, and refrained from 'breaking the news' (that had already been broken 12 hours earlier). The panel kept telling Richo to calm down. Personally I think he should have decked him anyway!

That's gold - you can say that about just about any other player on the open market. If Collingwood get Luke Ball, is anyone going to say the same thing?

Fcuk me, Essendon offered him 2 years, and you'd think they'd know a fair bit about him.

Palmer, Mayne, Hinkley, Connelly and Pratt as young blokes in '07 and Johnson, Bradley and Head as mature aged players.

14 new players last year although Van Berlo and Broughton were in their 20's when drafted.

Probably young blokes at 4, 20, 36, 48, 49 and 52 (although someone like Thomson/Dennis-Lane may be taken late) this year + McPhee + 2 rookies which I suspect will include one player aged 20+.

Really though we've only replaced the Bells, Farmers, Carr's, etc.

If we were having a proper clean out Dodd, Murphy, Thornton, Grover and Solomon should have been de-listed this year but the fact that it's a shallow draft has complicated things.

I commend Harvey on what he did last year and is doing this year but the first year he took over he would have won alot more fans if he took an axe to the list and off loaded about 8-10 players we would have been in a much better position now.

I don't really hold it against Harvs that I didn't clean out the list straight away. I'm sure we all remember our biggest gripe during the CC era being that our best was there with the best of them but we rarely played consistently and our worst was deplorable. Can't really blame Harvey for seeing if he could get what CC couldn't.

Afterall, the realisation that he couldn't may have had a big hand in us drafting the likes of Hill/Suban. Hard workers.
