which would be better a slimmer richo with the speed and athletic body he use to have or the current bulkier frame and strength he has now.

We should get a couple more years out of him if he stays big and plays from the goalsquare. If tries to run around again he'll probably be out of the league pretty quickly.
Agreed Weaver , 120 kgs and standing in the goalsquare . Hammy`s are not up to running around at CHF manymore . As has been proven many times before .

I hope Wallace reconsiders his theory of putting him up the ground

Richo bulked up last year, I think about 7 kilos, in order to play full forward out of the goal square. If he is going to play CHF he may choose to stay a bit trimmer.

i like the idea of him being a bigger frame it will difinately prolong his career
and with the delivery of the ball to the forward line bound to better next year,
he's a chance to kick three figures.let's get him down micky dee's asap! :D

the bigger he is the better! with the contest he makes he need to have a big frame! and even being big he is still very fast! i get the feeling we will see richo right on the goal line leading out hard! or the ball kicked to him with a one on one contest with tambo running past with his clean hands and there goes the ball straight thru the middle two post! comentaters and the crowd goes wild! woooooo hooooo! anyway i reckon richo would be better bigger! :D

This is the best thread I have seen in the last couple of months - and its actually footy related. I say BIG! Gasometer BIG. Galloping Gasometer BIG. Whale sized. I want him to squash his opponent in the first five minutes (OK, he'll give away 1 free), then they can bring one of those super-soppers on the ground to clean up.

same, in 2004 richo clearly showed he has a few good years ahead of him in the role of a FF, following 2 frustrating years as a sometime CHF where many forgot how good he really is.....

I can half see wallaces motives in removing the prospect of opponents singling out richo , however his future in the game will be shortlived with those guitar string hammys of his if he is to resume at HF and despite all that who the heck will play at FF, with sarge shultz already earmarked for a CHB role...pls not Browny...a wasted talent that deep

wallace will do the most important thing you can do to improve richos chances of kicking plenty more goals,

he will straighten up his leads,
why? bc the ball will be coming in quick so hes not playing dodgem cars against loose defenders ;)

bring on 05, go richo!!

one thing that i noticed on wednesday that most of richo's leads were goin out wide, mostly to his left side of the body. the deliveries he gets havent been that good.... nothing like gerihg gets at the saints.... something i believe we will work on.

certainly hope so, our footskills and skills in general are pretty dodgy

richo will be the same as he was next year.

Too heavy means he does hammies because he still tries to play like a lighter guy but ther is too much weight for him to move around as such and added strain on his joints means he loses afew yards regardless.

He finished this year lighter than when he started.
I think this is his natural playing weight.

Very true oxman...too big and those hammies are GAWN.

Richo is an instinct player and therefore you are never going to stop him running around. His speed is one of his greatest assets and makes him an incredibly hard match up.

Wallace has a brain and will use Richo to advantage, not let half the opposition play on him while we take half an hour to move the ball to our forward line.

Neither....Richo could be unbeatable, sleek or bulky......if.....he was...

SMART !!

Most of the time he gets beaten because he beats himself...
1/ Bad Timing
2/ Bad positioning
3/ Looking to where his opponent is...instead of the ball as the 1st priority
4/ More intent on bodying his opponent then trying to body towards the ball
5/ Posing for frees
6/ Very few 2nd efforts

yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah

send him to Football School not the gym or Jenny Craig !!

true, but the team often plays with the ball for to long before making the delivery.

and everything else on the list is pretty true! the teams major problem is fiddling with the ball for to long..... richo can be often on a very good lead....plenty of space and all the rest of it but they might do one extra handball here or there and it stuffs up his lead and we go over his head. tivendale is a great example as he likes his 50 m goals..... but who doesnt???? but in regards to richo he may have a decent lead and players look for the goal scoring option...... and often miss. im not saying everytime we get the ball kick it to richo...... but everytime richo has a decent lead with no one in his way they should give it up to him.

Richo to roam free

Look for Matthew Richardson to play further up the ground for Richmond in 2005.

That’s the message from new coach Terry Wallace, who has just written an article for the members’ newsletter, ‘The Fighting Tiger Bulletin’.

Wallace said that the Tigers would be looking to find multiple goalscorers next season and that Richardson would serve the team better further up the ground.

“What I’d like to do with Matty Richardson is play him out at half-forward,” Wallace said.

“I just think that when he plays solely deep, the opposition can actually plan for him to be there and double-team – or sometimes even triple-team – him.

“If Richo plays out across the forward 50, it allows us to get him one-out with his direct opponent more often, whether that be working back towards the goals, which he’s very good at doing, or just being further up the ground.

“My whole aim is to try to get him one-out with his direct opponent because from a contested marking point of view, with his power and his strength, he just doesn’t get beaten when he gets those opportunities.”

He also identified Nathan Brown, Andrew Krakouer, Wayne Campbell, Troy Simmonds and Greg Stafford as players who will be integral to the club’s forward mix in 2005.

looks like TW still likes the idea of playing him up the ground.

That will probably get worse if anything. Wallace prefers to use wingers and have them run the ball down, and doesn't mind going from side to side.

Richo has always struggled with timing his leads, with offering leads at all, and leading into the corridor and away from the pockets. Will be interesting to see how he is used but he has frustrated every coach he has ever had and I can't really seeing him changing now.
