Speaking from a VFA fans perspective, St Kilda and Sandringham need to go alone. It is really the only responsible thing to do. If Footscray can afford a side in the VFL, St Kilda should have no trouble, it will allow Sandy to take back their full identity (many people within that club very angry at how the Saints treat the alignment) and will be better from Saints players to train and play as St Kilda. We have a long lease at Moorabbin anyway, which is standing empty and unused, it is probably already VFL standard without any work being done judging by some of the grounds I've been to this year.

Of course, I would stay supporting the Borough, but would be happy to make the pilgrimage down to Moorabbin for Saints games on the occasion I had nothing else on.

it would help trying to get government funding and probably would be supported by the equalization measures

what about splitting the playing group like norf does?

Not a bad idea, but who do we split them up between? If Sandy feel disrespected by a full alignment, I think a part alignment might insult them even more. Frankston is the logical choice, location wise, but they are finally winning a few games and probably don't want to upset the applecart at this stage.

I still think the comps need to be split all together (AFL Reserves and VFA), and that will likely happen pretty soon anyway, we might as well get a head start for a year or two before the inevitable happens.

So would people agree that this:

VFA
Sandringham Zebras
Port Melbourne Borough
Williamstown Seagulls
Werribee Tigers
Frankston Dolphins
North Ballarat Roosters
Prahan Bullants
Box Hill Mustangs
Coburg Lions
Casey Scorpions
Bendigo Gold

Is potentially the best set-up for the VFL clubs on their own? Or would you cut a club to get that even 10?

If Footscray can afford a side in the VFL, St Kilda should have no trouble ... We have a long lease at Moorabbin anyway, which is standing empty and unused

From what I can gather, the Whitten Oval redevelopment cost $30m - with substantial government funding. Given the Saints got funding to go to Seaford, I can't see any way we are going to get even more to have a facility somewhere else (even if it is a logical location for us).

Whilst the playing surface is a better standard than many VFL grounds, there is alot of work which would need to be done - and discussions to date have revolved around the venue being a hub for games being played by various clubs.

I think that they should stick with Sandringham for a little while longer, but in saying that, St Kilda has to realise that Sandringham is a very proud team in its own right & should be treated with the respect that it deserves.

Chris Pelchen told the Platinum members that the club now has plans to develop Moorabbin as a Community hub and that the alignment with Sandringham will be extended for 2014 & 2015. From 2016 onwards the club hopes to have our own stand alone VFL side playing out of Moorabbin !!

Announced again in Social Club after today's game that @stkildafc will field their own VFL standalone side out of Moorabbin in 2016

Didn't Pelchen announce that recently to the long term Saints members function and reported on here by those in attendance?

Or was this the official notification to all members?

I think so. This is bout 3rd time I've heard it in last couple weeks. Once by my contact, once Pelchan and now Wakelin in social club so think we can lock it in!

Not sure if its "official" or not yet but if they saying it so much publicly must be making announcement soon. Probably when Zebs/Saints 2 year alignment extension is announced in coming weeks

The club needs a lot to go right between now and 2016 to stand alone in the VFL. For one, the Seaford facility needs a further $8m worth of work, just to get it to a standard that matches some rivals. secondly, the financial fallout of funding the current Seaford facility needs to be addressed. Get these two issues right, prior to spending money on a VFL franchise.

Was never going to happen within the next 2 years minimum due primarily to the Wellington push. This is a cash cow in effect in that it will drain in the short term and boom long term if sustained (it can really only grow). Once the local issues are then tidied up (ie contract dealings, interest payments, reparations / improvements) you'd expect around the 2017 season conservatively for a "modest" profit. 2016 is an "aggressive" date in regards to this projected window, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that, come 2016, an announcement will be made towards the mid-end of it instead of leading into the year.

Interesting comments. If you have time, can you tell more on funding problems still hanging over from current Seaford facility?

Id say the saints have received funding from council to improve the facilities at Moorabin, thus making the Moorabin Saints viable. the football club still runs a number of facilites out of Moorabin because seaford isn't big enough yet. But whatever plans they have in store for moorabin, they pave the way for the club to return to moorabin once the seaford lease is completed

Is the Pope Catholic?

Does a one legged duck swim in a circle?

Just reading an article about the 50 reunion of the Moorabbin FC 1963 fgla. Used to play at Linton St in the VFA.

Time we had our own VFL team: The Moorabbin Saints.

Have said it many times.... Geelongs secret to finding ready made kids is because they blood them in their VFL team where they can just step right into the seniors and know how to play.

Will happily buy a membership if we do.
Pardon my intrusion guys, but its got to be a resounding yes. Geelong was the first AFL club to field a standalone VFL team, and one reason for our success since 2007 has been the club's ability to blood youngsters in the VFL the "Geelong way". Sure its costly to run a VFL squad, but its worth at it at several levels. The AFL and VFL teams are on the same page, so there is negligible risk of conflict in getting match time into players returning from injury, trialling new game plans and strategies, or trying players out in new roles on the field.

Another bonus - in 2002 I was there to see a "Geelong premiership" when the VFL team won. I thought I'd never see a Geelong premiership.

Michael Nettlefold said on SEN that the saints are working on establishing a VFL side and playing at Moorabbin.

' I would be thinking that the AGM- last year was held in Dec at frankston frather than Feb as per rpesvious years,
but there are indications that an anouncement on several issues will occur later this year.

It would be good if they did and played at Moorabbin. Had suggested that for years:D

I'm told 2 year alignment extension is done and dusted. Both clubs to be standalone in 2016. Think there's a min amount Zebs that must play each week, but not entirely sure on amount. Saints have also secured funding for redevelopment of Moorabbin.

Any idea what the redevelopment will involve? I have never been to Moorabbin so I have no idea what it needs.

Also is there a chance that the club will leave Seaford all together if Moorabin gets the right facilities? I have very little knowledge of all the deals etc that had to be done to secure $ for Seaford and if it is even possible for them to leave. From an ignorant outsider point of view it would seem that there is only upside to moving to Moorabin if it is possible.

You've never been to Moorabbin? I'm assuming it's an age thing :-)

You'll have to remedy that in 2 years time when we start playing VFL there.

Some of my fondest memories of being a St Kilda supporter were at Moorabbin. I was only a very young whippersnapper when we played there but geez it was a cauldron of hate for opposing teams!!

Very excited we'll be back there....

I don't think we'd move from Seaford, certainly not in the short term....
