Yeah the coaches association will love the league leveraging PP to get a coach sacked.....

The coaches association is not a union the way the players association is, and there is no cba for coaches.

The AFL shouldn’t just dish out priority picks without clubs making difficult decisions.

We’re in our 4th season of fully understanding where we are at, and refusing to pull any levers to improve our on field position.

Why should the AFL indulge a club who thumbs their nose at the industry, and then wants a free handout after winning a flag 6 years ago?

The majority of oppo fans thoughts are "they've won a flag more recently than my team so stuff them it was there own fault"

I get it.

This.

Imagine being a Fremantle or Adelaide fan and enduring long rebuild, no support from AFL and having seen far less success than Weat Coast and seeing Weat Coast get given a priority pick package 6 years after winning a flag, after turning down multiple first rounders for pick 1 last year.

Didn't stop North from getting hand out after hand out.

How exactly are we "thumbing our nose at the industry"?
By backing in our coach.
Please.

Bottom line is,it doesn't matter how we got to the position we're in, we need help and should get some.

Neither Freo or Adelaide were in our position.
We're that bad that it is seen by some as compromising the competition.

I think we were offered pick 3 and 2 picks around the 18 range for pick one.
Most clubs if not all would take Reid over that every day of the week IMO.

Continually backing in an administration and coach who would have been sacked in any other competitive sports environment.

I don’t need to go through the numbers since bye in 2021, I’m sure you know them.

The absolute audacity to continue to back a coach who has demonstrate for a number of year an inability consistently get effort out of players.

Refusing to generate additional picks in the draft by using levers available over a number of years.

The audacity to come begging to the AFL 6 years after winning a flag.

West Coast, and its supporters need to eat some humble pie, if you want help, it’s not a free lunch. Start acting like a responsible party and make decisions that need to be made.

We won a flag 6 years ago.

Freo have NEVER seen a flag, anyone under the age of 23 haven’t seen a Crows flag.

Heck, throw Essendon in there too who haven’t seen a final win in 20 years.

We win a flag 6 years ago, go begging to the AFL and have the gall to say “it’s the best thing for the competition for us to get a priority pick”, but don’t tell us we need to change. Don’t tell us that we need to cop a hiding as a product of the decisions we made. Don’t try and hold us as an organisation accountable….

Listen to yourself.

If we took Curtin and pick 19 and 20 we would be getting hammered by everyone for not taking the best kid.

Damned if you do.

Reid would be tearing it up for North's midfield as well, you can picture it. He'd have a lot more support

Refusing to pull any levers? You just want us to pull the one you like.

We've made changes to staff, we've split picks, we were open to trading the reid pick, we tried to trade back into the first round even at the risk of essentially swapping pick 1 this year for 8 last year.

I get your unhappy with Simo but things have changed.

As sad as this is to say I am almost at the point of hoping we go winless for the season so as to secure a GC type assistance package of start of first round and mid first round priority picks this year....
I'll go one better. Freo smash us in both derbies and scrape into the 8 (by %) over a popular Vic team that finishes 9th and only plays us once (Bombers?). The media jump on us as being so uncompetitive that we skewed the ladder and allowed Freo to get into finals.

Now that would send a rocket up the VFL's arse!

Yes, and that would be fair enough and understandable if other teams weren't getting them and being propped up by the AFL (in one form or another), impacting our ability to rebuild by continually pushing back our draft picks. The AFL has created this mess, not us. Go to a completely uncompromised draft or prop teams up when they need it because the draft is a shit show as it stands.

So what you're saying, is that because WC have retained their contracted coach and despite the fact it would've cost us a shit load in money to replace him, we shouldn't get assistance?
That's laughable TBH.

What levers were available to us?
Shipping out contracted players?

"The audacity to come begging".
Where have you got that information from?

Looking at our draw, what did you expect after our first 3 games?
I thought we'd be beaten by 10 goals in every one, pretty much same as the bookies.

The Bulldogs loss was about 3 more than I thought.
Bad kicking didn't help.
Neither has losing OA.

It’s not about the lever I like. It’s any lever. It’s not just 2023 either, it’s the entire period 2021-23. I’ve posted all the options and levers we had to pull and didn’t.

Our supporters should be absolutely livid with that Barrass deal.

We gave up pick 3 in 2022 to keep Barrass for 5 years. Just to name the most egregious error in judgment.

We now have a lame duck coach who is unable to extract effort, but instead of actually addressing it and moving the coach on, we want to beg the AFL for help and gaslight oppo supporters (and ourselves) by cloaking it in “what’s best for the competition”….

Again, can you point out where we've "gone begging" for a PP?

Again, have you any proof of this?

Barrass has said Sydney offered him a multi-million dollar contract which he refused.

Here’s more “it’s not our fault” nonsense.

Not only are you a beggar, you’re blaming others for reasons you’re a beggar!

when actually it’s all your own doing

Yes. Trading out contracted players for draft capital is the norm when a club rebuilds.

It helped Carlton get Curnow and McKay on top of Weitering in 2015 as an example.

This isn’t about the first 3 rounds. I’ve been saying the same thing consistently, even last year.

I agree.

That's why if we do accept help I won't be fussed.

If we knock back PPs I won't be fussed either

And if said player is a West Aussie and refuses to be traded, what do you do then?
