was on the carlton board and they were talking about getting Lade cheaply thru the PSD port has only offered him a 1year deal maybe we could chase him give him a 3year deal and draft a ruckman by the time Lades finished we should have a ready made ruckman it might be our only choice if we cant get a Seaby, Wood, Hale, etc

What do you guys think

By the way sorry for the spelling LADE

Only if we can get him through the PSD or by offering something cheap. This wouldn't happen though, Port would want heaps for him (which is fair enough). He is also 31 years of age.

I'd look at Fabian DeLuca. He is only 20 and 203 cms and played 6 games (3 this year, 3 last year). He is also a Victorian.

31yo. As much as it'd be great to see a decent ruckman in the B&W, there's no reason for the pies to chase him.

Sounds good if we can work a deal.

Still better than anything we could develop atm. 2008-09 should be good years for us and if hes a the forefront in the ruck we could have an even better chance. As the initial post suggested aswell he could mentor and develop a ruck to lead us into the future.

Yeah ok thats a fair call but if we can get 2 maybe 3 or 4 years out of him and have a ruckman deveoping at willi that would be really handy and hopefully by that time 2010 2011 we should be really trying to secure ourself in the top4 and really challenging for a flag.

If he was a "free agent" so to speak, and we could fit him into our team - I'd be all for it. Considering this is PA, and if he went in the PSD he'd be gone well before he got to us, it's just not worth considering.

At the least PA would want Rusling + a pick

Edit: I really can't recall a ruckman playing effectively til 34-35. Clarke would have to be the oldest going round atm at 33, and he's been a shadow of his best.

A lot may be interested but I am not sure that you will ever get Laid. ;)

Sorry, it was there, had to do it, now I feel remorse.

Strangely, you have Dick, and if you get Wood, you have a better chance of getting Lade.

That's it, I'm off to rehab. ;)

How long did you have to go into the tank to come up with those?

Anyways, stop stirring the pot (with your Wooden Spoons).

(Every bad pun deserves an even more cringeworthy comeback :p)

I deserve it all. :o

Went to my school.

No chance to get Lade. Port will want too much for him and we will be too far back in the PSD. I'm not against trading Rusling but not for the sake of trading. If we can get some worth it trade away but if not build through the kids.

Sounds a bit girly.

We should have tried for him years ago when they had Primus with Brogan and Akland still coming through. As it stands now he probably doesn’t have much time left in the game. Nevertheless I would definitely take him subject to price. We can’t get him via the PSD. That’s just pie in the sky stuff. He’d cost us a draft pick and we’d have to take a risk on a 3 year deal. Port wouldn’t do us any favours. Unless we have a surplus player they like a second round pick would probably be required. I don’t know enough about the upcoming draft to comment on whether that is to expensive. If Port were interested in Rusling then maybe something could be worked out. I suspect they would demand a pick as well and we be doing the same and it would end in a stalemate.
I'd rather look at Stephen King. He'd be cheaper, younger, and probably fitter.
Again subject to price. What would you pay? Second round pick? Cat’s wouldn’t need any of our players – well not one’s we’d consider trading.

Second round pick sounds fair. I'd happily offer Lonie instead, but they have enough second tier players in their VFL team already.

I would say 3rd round is a yes and second round is a maybe. To put it into context, we got Egan in the first round 3 years ago and Rusling in the second round. 3rd round doesn't count because it was f/s. Two years ago we got Stanley at 21, Cook at 23 and Anthony at 37. Last year we got Dawes & Dick in the 2nd & 3rd rounds. It's a tough one when you are dealing with draft picks.

Fair enough, either way a cheap experienced ruckman at the club would be handy. Its up to the experts as to what he's worth - next years draft is meant to be a weaker one, so arguably a second rounder may be worth it. Also it depends on what number pick our second round is, ie where we end up on the ladder. Our second round pick could be anywhere between high 20's and mid 30's, depending on whether we end up 10th or 2nd.
