To those of you who love the simcity series, I am sure you will know about the newest version coming out hopefully around Dec/Jan. And it looks pretty cool!

They have certainly listened to some of the things people wanted....building bridges over valleys eg:

Being able to build residential on slopes.....which was one of my main problems with SC3K, the fact you couldn't do that.

They have also introduced a day/night element so that it seems more realistic...

There are heaps of other things, like fog coming rolling in off the coast, and the mountains, and things like increased traffic around schools and stuff at the times people should be going there. If you have all your jobs in a certain area, and all your homes in the other, you will see the traffic flow one way in the morning, and then you will see it come back at night.

Also you can import your Sims into the city and follow them around to an extent. They give you feedback on certain elements of the game.

There is heaps more stuff: Running multiple cities together, better terrain editor, adding animals, new disasters.....etc....

Here is a link for all the info out at the moment:

SimCity 4

I reckon it will keep me busy for quite some time!:D

Been looking forward to this for a while now, Seen heaps of other screen shots and are certainly impressed.
I love the look of the baseball field in the game.

COOL!

Yeah, I think it is only coming to PC.

And no, this isn't an advertisement, but if someone wants to start paying me for this post, I will happily accept.

I also agree that these sorts of games are better on PC, although they are bringing the Sims out on PS2 so it will be interesting to see how that goes.

I liked 3000 although I found it hard to get the land flat to build on. I'd press my button and it would sometimes do a big hole in the ground when really I just wanted it level. Then I would have to build it up again.

When you start your city, you should level all your terrain first, easiest done by zooming out to the furthest zoom. I usually have it about two levels above sea level.

Then when you want mountains or whatever, just raise the terrain. Eassssy.

Yeah I did that sometimes but I would try to make people live higher up than other people. Like the Rich residential area. Thats where I stuffed up mainly. then my roads wouldn't connect properly up the hills.

Looks great

In years past, you couldn't get me off the computer playing SimCity and then SimCity2000, now days it's the Net you can't get me off!

Downloaded the movies that are on the Simcity website, the smaller one looks pretty cool with the camera panning around and through the streets of the town.
The larger, 25 Meg file is ok, doesn't haave much action in it, spends a lot of time showing a volcanoe forming with lava running down its sides.

Ahhhh the inspiration as to why i am studying Urban and Regional planning at uni

Ahh, I studied Urban Geography in my first degree, hence why I loved SimCity so much. The real thing in the real world didn't seem as appealing in the end! :p

I haven't really paid much attention to PC computer games over the last few years but have seen various versions of The Sims in computer stores, are they good value and worth buying?
