Die Hard Hoops Fan
Debutant
I've been keeping a close eye on Simon Hogan over his limited opportunities this year. After he made some good progress last season as probably the 23rd – 24th picked player, taking into account Big Mummy when he was running around in the hoops and playing the qualifying final against the dogs in 09, therefore with the inevitable onset of week in/week out injuries to an ageing list such as Geelong’s I was expecting him to have a big year this year. This has not been the case.
I am not one to drag down a player just for the sake of it, but I can see a lot of similarities between Hogan and the now departed Kane Tenace. That is, the player has hit a peak very early, shows no great improvement and has deplorable skills.
Watching him run around on the weekend against Wet Toast and continually turn the ball over by hand and foot and miss targets frustrated me greatly. And this was not the first time. He is a good honest battler but is simply not up to AFL standard in my opinion.
With GC17 coming in perhaps it would be a good opportunity to trade him for a decent pick, he could be shopped about as a ready-made player with finals experience and pace.
Thoughts?
