Alot of people may disagree with me but this is only my opinion and i call it like i see it.
To me Simple Plan are an example.
They are an example of everything that I don't like about the music industry today.
The songs i have heard by Simple Plan sound like they are clearly written for a mass audience of teenagers who lap up what the media feeds them because they think the top 40 is the only music worth listening to.
Thus they buy the latest album out that they see a commercial for on t.v. if it fits into the "hip" trend. So instead of getting new, exciting and creative albums from many genres heard on the radio , we get the cd companys latest cookie cutter band of the current trend giving us a cd with the same stuff x 4 for singles and the other 4 or 5 songs as filler tracks to make up 40-50 minutes of music with the soul purpose being to sell cd's. You might say "who cares if it sounds good right?" well that is your opinnion but i feel it is that opinnion that is slowly killing the music industry.
For me the truly great bands and the ones who deserve respect and money to support them are the ones who write songs for themselves not for thier fans or for the cd company's demands. If that means a song runs for 20 minutes or 2 minutes so be it, If that means some songs are Amazing and some are terrible, so be it. kids growing up deserve more than listening to verse chourus verse chourus crap wraped into 3mins so it can be played on the radio or made into a flashy video clip and repeated ad nausem.
Now i'm not saying ALL top 40 bands are like this or ALL fans of Simple plan are this naive about music, But i think Majority are and in my opinion Simple plan are are one of them. (sorry for the Rant)

I'm not so sure about Kid Courageous (since I haven't heard him or anything!), Bloodhound Gang (couple of reasonably funny songs) and Maroon 5 (since the singer does have a really good voice, so maybe there is some potential there).
Spazzys are okay and they don't take themselves seriously at all.
Spiderbait and Magic Dirt are two of Australia's best rock bands of the past decade. I believe they've proven themselves on a number of occasions.
As for Gorillaz, I think they are the best thing to happen to the charts since Oasis 10 years ago.
That's my opinion anyway

I can understand simples plan act for their first cd, whinging about how bad their lives are, and their parents hating them and stuff, but after their commercial success, they follow the same pattern on their newest cd!!!

the fact that they have a clothing label says more about this band than words ever could - in fact, Pierre Bouvier is wearing one of their tshirts in the above picture (second from the right for those not in the know).
basically, I detest Simple Plan for four main reasons:
1. They're a 'teen angst' band (much like an FM Radio version of Nirvana).
2. They sing and write lyrics about things that just aren't applicable to them in their position and at their age - i.e. teen angst.
3. They're a 'formula' band - basically, they write lots of songs about teen angst to appeal to the teen market.
4. They're French Canadians
I'm a 19 year old with a few issues - so, theoretically, I'm part of Simple Plan's target audience.
therefore, I should probably like them, but I can't suspend disbelief and pretend that some product of the commercial conveyor belt is actually a message that was meant for me.
but the thing that scares me most is, if I was 4 years younger (and a whole lot more f*cked in the head), I'd probably be idolising this band

Probably already been said, but what is there to appreciate about simple plan? Worst band going around.
Lets get one thing right first i do not like them, they suck.
I did however go to their concert with a friend of myne who had won free tickets, and a saw 2000 14 year old skanks with stupid signs saying stuff like "I love you Pierre" and "Pierre im pregnant with your baby".
Oh and they were ******** live aswell, and some prick burnt me with a lighter in the mosh
