Have a go at playing it on PC with mods. That is what I did and it makes it so much better.
Apparently there's a mod where instead of dieing, your character gets r*ped instead.

I know all mods are not like this, but why does this need to exist?

I had a bit of a play of it on PC (laptop HDMI to TV with a controller) but for some reason ended up going back to PS4. The latest combat overhaul mod looks so good maybe I should give PC another look....Damn you Skyrim, I was out :grinning:.

Yep I'm playing the Special Edition on Xbox, I gave it about 20 minutes when I bought it years ago and thought it wasn't for me.

Decided to give it another go a few months ago and became hooked, just recently added mods which make it even better.

Nice! What type of mods are available?

Xbox has a decent amount of what I've seen.

I've got the Unofficial Patch which was recommended.

An open cities patch so there's no load screens when entering towns which is great for a console user.

A couple of graphics mods, better blood/weather things like that.

Map mod that adds roads to the map which I found helpful.

A couple of sword and armor mods that looked cool and aren't ridiculously overpowered.

Sounds like some major improvements - especially the load screens which annoyed me the most on my last playthrough!

Didn't realise mods were available on consoles, and were only exclusive to PC. Nice! Will have to look into whether PS4 has any.

I started this last year with the intention of grinding out the platinum. I burned myself out though by rushing through the Vamprie story line so they couldn't kill/convert/whatever the do any trophy related NPCs.

Pretty sure PS4 got screwed as far as mods go. There’s a lot more on PC and Xbox

PS4 has some bullshit like not allowing custom assets or something like that from memory. Only allow the use of assets already in the game.

Devs like BigAnt have got around it so surely Bethesda could.

Ah damn! That sucks, thanks for the heads up lads. Will have to make do with the el naturel gameplay. :thumbsu:

Compared to PC and xbox the playstation is laughably bad for mods but that doesn't mean they don't have any worth checking out. I usually played with a fair chunk of the 99 you are allowed. A few of my favourites.

The unofficial patch .
Immersive citizens,
Realistic conversations
Magical college of winterhold
Crossbow mods to enable smithing crossbows without the dawnguard quest
More smelters! (every town and smithy should have one)
Rich skyrim merchants
Improved loot
Better horses
Various dragons
Race menu anytime
Above the law (talk your way out of accidentally torching guards)
Left hand rings
Make skill books clear (coloured covers if you dont want to pick up every book checking for them)
Point the way (handy signposts at intersections)
Halved respawn timer
Walk right (all females have the female walk animations)
Teleport rings and spells
Treebalance - a series of nice tweaks to skill trees
Muted restoration at the ready - I looked for this for years before finding it. It just shuts up the annoying buzz from having a heal spell ready to cast
Basic Spell Scaling - spells gain 1% each level, this alone makes such a difference to keeping magic relevant without overpowering anything
10 hp per level is very cheesey but handy of you want to raise all three stats, I've used it for the first 10 levels and then removed it just for a bit of a boost

Lots of preset options I always liked better male presets and axe's presets for the females, also smooth female faces.

There are a lot of general improve graphics/ weather mods. I still like Dolomite and Water, rustic weather to make storms louder and heard indoors.

Great Cities and Green Whiterun to improve towns, unfortunately no Open Cities.

Then there's lots of individual stuff depending on what you like, increase carry weight, make stuff lighter, improve conjuration (there's a good simple one that just adds a second summon earlier so you have 3 when you get the later perk, there're other ones that let you summon heaps more)

What I really noticed was that as well as not being able to change the combat like with the mod I posted above, there is also no way to improve the look of NPCs or enemies. You can improve your character which is nice but you don't see yourself much and you can improve the landscapes and cities a reasonable amount, if nothing like PC/Xbox, but you're stuck with the default NPCs and enemies.

Cool. Another opportunity to delete a PS4 game off my packed as **** PS4 HDD and just have it sitting there - unplayed for years - on the PS5. I just checked and I do own the Special Edition on PS4, apparently the only way to upgrade for free is if you own the Special Edition.

I think that was a misprint about the free upgrade, even with special edition there will be a cost to get the full anniversary edition though apparently some stuff will be free.

I never played Skyrim until the special edition and so this will only be the second time that I've paid anything for Skyrim and so value for money I've put way, way, way too many hours in to be too unhappy with whatever they charge.

I wish Bethesda would throw official support (and money!) behind the engine upgrades of Morrowind and Oblivion. They'd surely make their investment back and then lots more...

They should chuck money at the guys developing Skyblivion to get it done quicker and with more resources and personnel.

Yeah, you are correct. One of the articles I read corrected their article to include that it won’t be a free upgrade.

Skyrim Special Edition on PS5 is downloadable for free. It comes out at a 15GB download, the PS4 version which I deleted off my system was 37GB. Cool.

Does it have improved visuals?
