With the rule of a free kick for diving in for the ball at someones feet, it's now introduced the sliding in legs first.

Goodes did this to Gibson in the 3rd quarter which was lucky to not cop a serious injury out of it.

Surely it has to be looked at, or will it take a broken leg for them to do something?

What rubbish, look at the replay went for the ball as acknowledged by the commentary.

Besides not like he strangled someone and rammed their head into the turf

I was surprised Buddy avoided the MRP with that too. Much more dangerous act.

My point is, these potentially dangerous acts are overlooked until something happens and then they'll introduce a rule. Then that rules introduces some new acts.

Was trying to kick the ball away from Gibson. Will get off.

If Buddy can get away with a running Bulldog DDT (Dog act), there's no way Goodes will go for this.

An incident occured in the Eagles / Lions match yesterday where the Eagles slid into the Lions players legs and the umps said NOTHING , the Eagles cleared the ball and went on to kick a goal .

Have a look at you lot. I suggest you look up the definition of a slide. He kicked at the ball making sure he didn't go to ground as the rules state you can't. At the point of contact both players were on their feet. He did nothing wrong. Last night, I am certain a large number of Hawthorn supporters turned up with the intention (win, lose or draw) to bitch, whinge and complain about anything they possibly could. Absolutely pathetic.

Yellow card for Goodes.....dirty player put up on a pedestal because he plays for the AFL franchise and has won a couple of Brownlows.

Yep. Pretty hard to take this thread seriously when the entire Hawthorn supporter base at the ground were booing Goodes from his first touch of the footy on Saturday night.

Even harder to take it seriously when you consider that what he did isn't even against the rules.

Just more sooking from supporters who still clearly aren't over the GF loss. Probably never will be.

Wut? Goodes might like to try keeping his feet next time.

It was kicking in danger. Should definitely have been a free, but you can't seriously, on that footage, say it was an attempt at a trip. He was trying to soccer it away from under Gibson's feet, which was dangerous, but it's not a reportable offence. Ankles got tangled, Gibson got hurt (thankfully not too badly), which is why the rule exists, but the umpire missed it (one of many that night). At least you can't say the missed free influenced the final result, but to suggest he should get weeks for it is pretty ridiculous.

I suggested nothing. swansrule100 indicated Goodes got nowhere near Gibson. That's clearly rubbish.

Exaggeration on my part, from one angle it looks worse than it is though, goodes to me was confused at that contest given his prior troubles, i am for protecting the player in gibsons position but i thought reviews of the contest made it clear it was never weeks

Gibson was lucky Goodes went early with the leg. Going in feet first is dangerous full stop. Gary Rohan can testify to that.

Sorry, I was talking more generally about the attitude that he should have got done or it was otherwise a dirty act, I didn't mean it to be particularly pointed at you. I was just referencing the footage.

I just can't understand that. I mean, I get why Gibson was pissed off when he came off, as far as he was concerned he was chasing the ball and suddenly he got a bootfull of studs to the ankle. But anybody who has actually seen the footage can see that Goodes was reaching out a boot towards the ball, not trying to slide in. Hell, the only reason he didn't actually make contact with the ball is he made sure he DIDN'T slide in, and as such couldn't get as close as he otherwise would have.

It seems to me that Dermie has just had a chat with Gibson after the game and gone completely off that.

Some of the carry on about the MRP from the more lunatic-fringe Hawks supporters is mind-boggling. A week after Buddy gets cleared for a coat hanger and the same week Duryea gets off for elbowing a guy in the face, and they're playing a victim card. So strange.
