Slow inside midfielder with excellent hands

I'm pretty happy with our midfield to be honest, there is absolutely no reason for us to go chasing high profile recruits.

Barlow/Fyfe/Hill/Mora/Suban/Mundy are a mix of stars and proven performers who are either yet to reach or only just reaching their peak, thats a formidable midfield. Other than Hill and potentially Suban all are midfielders with excellent hands.

Theirs still hope for Palmer a well.

Our problem lies in Key position backmen and another forward, backmen first though.

Grover is on his last legs and McPharlin while in AA form won't be around forever.

Yep. We need a KPP player or two. Our midfield players are fine, it's our continuity/makeup on the field that has stuffed us so far, players just out of sorts.

If Barlow, Mundy, Lower/Palmer/DeBoer are in there then Morabito, Fyfe, Hill can run away with it..

Hell, Broughton and Duffield can go inside as well...

I just hope his foot heals ok, but Viv Michie can become a good midfielder also. So too Chrichton.

Yep, we definitely need some mobile 190 - 195cm defenders. Have a look at the premier teams and their current defenders;

Collingwood: Taz (193cm), Maxwell (193cm), O'Brien (189cm but plays tall and small), Reid (195cm) and Toovey (190cm).

Geelong: Mackie (192cm), Taylor (193cm), Lonergan (197cm), Scarlett (192cm), Milburn (189cm) and Enright (188cm but plays taller)

compared to our current set up;

Freo: McPharlin (193cm), Grover (189cm but plays taller) and Johnson (194cm but plays smaller and weaker) and that's it!
Ibbo is 188cm but plays 188cm and struggles with opponents that are taller and/or stronger and Roberton (191cm) is in and out of the team but also struggles against taller or quicker opponents. Duffield and Broughton are 187 and 185cm respectively and are expected to cover players 190cm+ due to our shortfall in this area.

Admittedly we have Silvagni (191cm) who's injured and Faulks (192cm) who's injured and out of form and I suppose we have McPhee (190cm) who's injured but we play him forward anyway. Not alot to be excited about there!

Sheppard and Houghton are the one's we need to develop in this area but both seem a long way back in their development curves. I think they were both drafted at around 80kg - Houghton is now 82kg and Sheppard is 85kg! This after 2 pre-seasons!

Shepeard will not be on the list after this season so no point including him.

It it pretty obvious that the drafting strategy was to build around Pav, McPharlin, Grover and Tarrant when he was here. They probably think that you draft good talls at the end of the first round like the Crows have done.

.

Yeah, you're probably right but I still hold a glimmer of hope. See how he goes tomorrow. I wish they'd play him in defence just so we can see if there's any hope. Playing in defence has certainly helped Sibo and Buca. It doesn't require as much thinking which seems to help some of our players!
