If we played a smarter brand of footy, we would get rid of flooding in our games, but we either don't have a smart game plan or our players are not following instructions. Every now and then teams forget their game plan and they force themselves to kick to crowded wings and crowded forward lines. We need to smarten up a bit and so do other teams or rules will come in to get rid of flooding. Stick to the spine lads

Adelaide Flood, Sydney Flood, most teams flood. It's a part of the game so learn to enjoy the tactics of the game like I am instead of dreaming of high scoring goal fests.

The lads have just got to run harder. A lot of good sides do it. The bulldogs flood but break at breakneck speed and most neutrals reckon they play the most attractive style of football.

Im all for our players learning to play a one on one and attacking brand of footy but you need to be able to play different styles these days. one-on-one, attacking, flooding, good sides are competent at all these styles.

Not anymore. Game plan has been worked out by most!!

Good point Madtiger2006......but can you teach 'smarts'.

Or do we need to evaluate that early and draft likewise?

Exactly tigerT...
Dogs and Cats run hard to space even from the kick-outs and leave us standing there in their wake.
And we never work it out.
Why? Ask Terry.

Quite noticeable that Richmond, more than any team, has failed to adapt to the new kicking in rule. Ever since the rule was changed toi allow full backs to kick in immediately after ampoint is registered, bleeding obvious we have failed to man up or prevent teams from clearing the ball with ease.
Players need to wake up!
Conversely, we seem to struggle big time to clear the ball from full back!!!

Clearly we will loose this weekend

So we should imploy some new tatics - A shoot out, like Carlton play.

Play only 1 man loose in defense and don't get number back unless set shots from outside 50

It's not hard to do at all. Just watch our kick ins. Firstly we could form a tighter huddle and time our leads better. But our next kick after the first mark is what we need to work on. By the time the first mark has been taken from the kick in, his options are all manned up and too scattered while some are too close to the boundary. It's obvious the players up the ground have led too early to the wings and by the time the ball is kicked to them they are on the boundary with no where else to run and their opponent has caught up to them. So all the options are taken so we have to chip the ball sideways etc. This gives the opposition time to flood the forward line because we take too long to get there. This is all because we lead too early from the spine to the wings after the first kick in has been marked
