ROOKIE DRAFT

# 1 Carlton - Nick O’Kearney (Calder Cannons / 180cm / 70kg)

Surprised didn't get drafted. Body size maybe as a few that were light who I thought might go missed so maybe a theme this year. Still a very good natural football with high IQ who is a ball winning magnet who has been a terrific performer for a long time now. Surprising we don’t talk about him going higher but he is on the smaller side than what clubs want. Still I think he will embarrass a few with how well he goes because he is just a natural footballer with plenty of smarts about how to read and play the game and get himself into good spots. Has good endurance, flash of speed when he needs it and tends to make really smart choices with the ball which he gets an abundance of. Wins his own ball, will work as hard offensively as defensively and he is very happy to put his arms around his opponent. Knock on him is he doesn’t really have a ‘trick’.

# 2 - Brisbane Lions (Jackson Paine Redraft)

They have committed to Paine but William is available. What do they do? I'd take William but thats just me.

# 3 Gold Coast - Rueben William (QLD / 182cm / 74kg)

Lions Academy selection who was an AA this year. Pretty impressive year off a HB and has scope to play a few roles. Tipping Suns take him if available albeit maybe looking for a developing key forward like Smith or Moore.

# 4 Essendon - Sam Grimley (Hawthorn)

Dons took plenty of A grade medium types and added Brown and Hartley. Not sold that Brown best spot is KPF and with Worsfold keen for depth there I reckon young Grimley might get a go there. If doesn't I think they may look at Moore as well.

# 5 St Kilda - Cameron Hewett (North Adelaide / 189cm / 76kg)

Another club who I think could well end up taking a key forward early as there aren't many left but have gone with this kid instead. Quite like this kid as presents as a player with a bit of scope in a couple of positions. Think he could play either a HB, Wing or mid type role and he looks to have pretty good footy IQ in the games I saw him in. Was pretty good around the physical stuff at the champs and particularly around the stoppages where he was a real influence at times. Needs to add some weight and probably hasn’t got that stand out attribute but very coachable and doesn’t have any obvious weakness.

# 6 Melbourne - James Parsons (Eastern Rangers / 189cm / 85kg)

Arguably most talented kid left. AIS kid who is a pretty good mover and who can midfield or HF. For mine he presents best at AFL level as a high half forward who has a good motor and can work the arcs pretty well and create scoring opportunities. At his best he is smart forward who knows how to read the play and present, takes a strong mark, can win the ball at ground level and usually uses the thing very well. Works defensivel pretty well and saw a couple of really impressive things during champs to support that theory. The knock is he really doesn’t have a standout feature and his consistency has been up and down but for mine a smart HF who is tall and strong and beaut kick but who could go into the midfield and be a really damaging tall mid who pushes forward.

# 7 Collingwood - Callum Moore (Calder Cannons / 193cm / 85kg)

Was surprised he didn't go in the National Draft as a few clubs looking for key forwards. Pies have put time into him and think he could land there. Extremely athletic kid who has a terrific athletic capability and can really jump at the ball. Works hard, is aggressive at the contest and has speed (20m at 2.9s) for a player his height so should be able to find plenty of ball. Can take a contested mark as well and e is clean on the deck. The knock….his kicking needs work and it’s a question clubs will be asking themselves when they try and place him. Still plenty of players have been able to improve their kicking and am sure a club will back themselves in. Shouldn’t forget he has a basketball background and he is still pretty new to footy so if clubs then he will continue to develop then should get taken. If not him then surely it will be a small forward. Gallucci, Kerbatieh, McAdam?

# 8 GWS - Will Snelling (West Adelaide / 176cm / 75kg)

Terrific little midfielder from SA who has been a standout for some time now. Looks to have a terrific work ethic and the SA coach Phillips speaks very highly about his character. His form in the Champs this year really put him on the radar for a high selection along with his performances at senior level later in the year. He ticks every box insomuch as he reads the game very well, excels at stoppages, has acceleration, he wins his own ball, clean with his hands, good by foot, will tackle with real intent but the fear is his height will probably drop him back a bit. He recorded a fantastic beep result and the combination of all that will see him go and from then on its really up to him.

# 9 Geelong - Maris Olekalns (North Adelaide / 180cm / 71kg)

Another slight bodied type who plenty thought would go. Very talented though and would be a real surprise not to see him given a chance. Another cricketer who has chosen footy. Was part of the AIS group but he didn’t stay with them this year preferring cricket. Very light kid but he knows how to read the game and find the footy. You worry he is going to snap in half but he has shown he can play inside and with a bit of weight on him could develop that side more. On the outside a very nice mover and he seems to move quickly which gets him into space. Uses it well.

#10 Port Adelaide - Stephen Tahana (North Adelaide / 183cm / 79kg)

Port would be rapt to get this kid. Start of this year he was top 20 and he didn't have a bad year at all! Big fan of this kid and think in years to come we might look back and say should have gone higher. Been a terrific junior who has been exposed and done well at all levels. Really caught my eye last year as a bottom ager at champs when he was really good. Quick, great agility and lateral movement, reads the game well, composed and will take the game on. He tackles well and he has the defensive aspects of his game at a good level. Would think HB / Wing and maybe even a lock down role would suit him best at AFL level. Has got to much talent not to make it I would think.

# 11 Western Bulldogs - Andre Parella (Sturt / 204cm / 104kg)

Along with Nyoun was probably the best performed ruck at the champs. Is only new to footy having focused on tennis and has a couple of decent tricks up his sleeve. Thought his work through the champs with his hands at the ruck contests was elite for a kid that hasn’t played much. Remember Goldstein as a kid had great hands and thought of him when was watching Parella who was getting it down the throat of his mids pretty well. Other thing is for his size he is pretty good ball user by foot and both those elements will stick in recruiters minds if they decide to go with a young ruck prospect. The query….just not sure there were many good rucks so hard to benchmark him.

# 12 Richmond - Jesse Glass-McCasker (Swan Districts / 196cm / 95kg)

He could slip a bit in the rookie as a few clubs stocked up in the National Draft but he surely wouldn't go past Richmond.Really good looking type who is very athletic and has great size and strength about him. Could turn into a type who could handle the bigger full forwards and what I really think clubs will like is he is a type who is happy to run off and create. He is a safe kick but not a great one and he had a few moments in the champs where he is ball use by foot should have been better. Still he wants to do it and recruiters will tell you they would rather a kid have the intent if they think they can clean up his decision making etc. Lot to work with and would think a club would be keen to take him if they think they can work on his kicking and get him to become a bit more offensively clean.

# 13 Adelaide - Tom Keough ( West Adelaide / 195cm / 91kg)

Been a standout in the SANFL this year and had a really good game against Yarran in the state game. I rate Yarran very highly andnot sure Tom was the ideal matchup for him but he applied himself really well and thought notwithstanding Yarran contribution he got the better of him. Tall key back but maybe better suited to the 3rd defensive role where he can use his ability to read the play and then impact the game offensively and defensively either by providing an option as a get out player or come across and intercept. He had a wonderful finals series. The knock is his ball use at times is erratic but to be fair to him I think sometimes that comes from over attacking.

# 14 Sydney Swans - Patrick Levicki (Norwood / 196cm / 94kg)

Played junior footy for SA a few years ago (I think as a ruck) and has really improved. Would get drafted as a key defender and at 196cm is a terrific size but he brings real agility and a bit of speed to his game. Reads the play pretty well and has a good set of hands. Offensively he can kick the ball a mile and he makes pretty good decisions and seems to execute it pretty well. If he can keep improving at the pace he did this year then he becomes a handy acquisition and immediate depth player.

# 15 North Melbourne - Liam Jeffs (Eastern Ranges / 192cm / 78kg)

Hard to know where Liam goes because he has had such an ordinary time with injuries. Was thought highly enough of though to be part of the AIS group after some pretty impressive performances last year. His best go is as an inside midfieler who can use his height (and in time frame) to really impact contests and then use his speed and evasive skills to exit the stoppage. His ball use is very good and he is good by hands as well. Spent time at North this year.

# 16 Fremantle - Dylan Smith (Swan Districts / 198cm / 81kg)

Presents will all the traits you would want in a big kid. He is tall and covers the ground really well for a guy that is nearly 198cm. Has played back and forward but his results have been a bit inconsistent and whilst he had a really good game vs SA at the champs the rest were a bit disappointing. But hey lot to work with and I reckon a club will take him as a defender and then he will go from there. I’ve seen him there and he looks more at ease to me. Got more into the game and he was willing to give a 2nd effort. He has the size, speed and strength to go with many. I do wonder if Keitel doesn’t get taken then why will Dylan but lets hope so.

# 17 West Coast - Thomas Glen (Dandenong Stingrays / 187cm / 72kg)

Lightly framed kid who tested really well across all the running based tests and the skills tests so he presents as a player a lot of clubs will look as having a fair bit of upside. I think he is probably going to start life as a defender where he likes to attack and run off his opponent and use his speed and endurance to keep doing it. As mentioned is a very good user of the ball and would think does enough to get a rookie spot.

# 18 Hawthorn - Clint Hinchcliff (West Perth / 179cm / 82kg)

Well performed midfielder from WA who had an outstanding Colts year. Inside mid and might be that tough inside player they like who can extract the ball and then push deep. Nice kick on him and a player that am pretty sure will go. Reminds me a bit of Dean Kent at same age.

# 19 Carlton - Greg Clark (Subiaco / 193cm / 82kg)

Geez they got a good haul and if they could add OKearney and Clark to it would be very good. Captain of the WA side this year but whose performances were a bit up and down. Had a terrific game vs Country and at his best he presents as a pretty slick mover who has that size and frame to really dominate the middle which notwithstanding he has played a few different roles I suspect his potential in there is what will get clubs excited. Very good accumulator of the ball and link up player but not overly quick so isn’t going to hurt spreading from the pack but he is a terrific endurance runner (15+) so he will keep going all day. I suspect clubs will see him as a wing / outside midfielder because of his size but they will want to develop the inside aspect of his game (70% of his possessions at champs were uncontested) and improve his marking and kicking. I think he will go a bit later but could be a terrific get if can improve a couple of aspects. Has shown he can already mix it with the big boys.

# 20 Gold Coast - Gach Nyuon (Dandenong Stingrays / 198cm / 81kg)

Be a terrific story if we saw him drafted. Wonderfully athletic kid who has just gotten better and better every time I have seen him and think he will be someone who the scouts can see the improvement in. Equalled the record for the absolute vertical running leap which Nic Nat holds and went at 2.95s for the 20m sprint. The kid has something but he is light and is a work in progress. Having said that he use to just run and jump at the ball but now he gets himself much more involved in the game and is getting smarter at limiting that to handballing in the main.

# 21 Essendon - Bailey Rogers (Claremont / 184cm / 80kg)

I really like this guy and think he presents as a pretty good prospect for someone later in the draft. Good size medium defender who probably doenst have many ‘tricks’ but he never makes bad decisions. In fact in game situations I thought he nearly always made the right choice and at times in the Champs he and the other backs were under some pretty extreme pressure. In that sense he reminds me of a Chris Newman type and is a neat user of the ball and very clean with his hands. Followed closely post champs and had some fine games at reserves and senior level and he looked pretty comfortable to me.

# 22 St Kilda - Dan Houston (Oakleigh Chargers / 187cm / 83kg)

Co Captain of the Chargers this year and from all reports and pretty good kid. Talented medium forward who came into the year pretty well rated after a strong year as a bottom ager kicking 23 goals from 13 games. Has exceptional hands and is a very good kick of the footy. Not sure he had as good a year as hoped but the game vs SA was pretty good for him and he showcased his ability as a medium forward with 4 good goals. Missed the last game but went back and kicked 8 vs Bendigo which was a great effort. Athletically speed looks ok without being elite but he does have decent endurance and you can see it in how he plays and gives repeat leads. The query is how much versatility does he have.

# 23 Melbourne - Viv Michie (Redrafted)

# 24 Collingwood - Hisham Kerbatieh (Calder Cannons / 179cm / 78kg).....but probably Tim Golds.

Explosive small forward who tested poorly and I suspect as a result dropped a fair bit in Clubs orders. Still at his best he can turn it on and change a game within minutes. Powerful runner with a good burst and a fantastic penetrating kick on him. Kicks low and hard and kicks over long distances. What he isn't is a great endurance runner and on that level he will need time to develop but he has the goal sense and he loves to tackle and run defensively so lots of tools there. Could well be a McAdam or a Gallucci instead and a real left field would be Murray Newman who Id like but zero chance. Realistically probably Tim Golds, Ryan Pendlebury, Gus Borthwick or Dave Mennen. But Tim Golds will certainly be one of the two selections.

# 25 GWS - Jordan Snadden (East Fremantle / 190cm / 79kg)

AIS kid who is a quick midfielder and who big things were expected of this year but been unable to put a solid block of good games together. To his credit he did average 20 touches and 3 tackles a game at Colts level so wasn’t to bad just more that he came into the year very highly rated. He has all the tools with his ability to play inside and out of the contest and as that tall bodied mid he craves the contest and is very happy to take on frontal pressure. Has clean hands, good evasive skill and genuine speed away from stoppages so he could be a weapon. Will get drafted at some stage albeit history says these kids can find it hard. If he does and he can get it together then he may be the bargain of the draft.

# 26 Geelong - Matthew Nunn (Norwood / 180cm / 76kg)

Doesn’t get talked about a lot and ticks a lot of boxes which may see him go a lot earlier. Was captain of the SA U16s side and has played at every level he could have this year. He has high footy IQ and just racks up getting huge touches. Adds to that with genuine speed (2.9s 20m), agility and elite ball use (83% at champs).

# 27 Port Adelaide - Hugh Haysman (West Adelaide / 178cm / 72kg)

Played in the West Adelaide premiership side this year and is very highly rated in SA and particularly by his coach. Wing / HF type who is still very light but has speed (ran a sub 3s for 20m) and a willingness to take the game on. Happy enough to get inside the contest and win his own ball where his clean hands are a real feature along with his evasive skills but probably more his go to get on the outside and use his speed and endurance attributes to spread and carry. Nice finisher and just a player that appears to do everything well without a real standout. Needs to add some weight but a smart footballer and should get a go.

# 28 Western Bulldogs - David Mennen (Murray Bushrangers / 186cm / 80kg)

19yo who I was a bit surprised didn’t get taken last year. His best is absolutely good enough and he possesses a few traits which clubs are in need of. HB / Wing type who loves to run and carry and use his foot skills to really polish off his work. Has got a lovely right foot on him and he wheels onto it whenever possible. One thing that has always impressed me with him is he is happy to go in and win his own footy as well and he does it well and has a bit of speed to accelerate away. His hands are clean on the deck and he is good with them in the air as well. Played well vs Metro at Champs and was in their top 2-3 and also had a couple of games at Collingwood this year as a top up player and did well. I think one of the games was at the G and what I liked about him off HB was his willingness to bring it back through the corridor.

# 29 Richmond - Shane McAdam (Claremont / 181cm / 78kg)

Played 11 games in the seniors this year and whilst he only kicked 19 goals he presents pretty well. Tested well at the State combine as has amazing speed, leap and agility. Offers a more mature body than some of the 18yo’s for clubs looking for that small forward type player who might be able to slot in pretty quickly. The other thing I quite like about the kid is that he works defensively and he reminds me a bit of Charlie Cameron in that regard at roughly same age.

# 30 Adelaide - Brendan Dew (Central Districts / 179cm / 73kg)

Another SA onballer who was pretty prominent at Champs and who am a bit unsure of as to where might land. Exceptional ball user is his trick and still pretty light but suspect will develop into an inside mid who has a touch of speed and can exit the contest. Reminds me a little bit of Matt Goodyear from last year.

# 31 Sydney Swans - Matthew Perry (Northern Knights / 187cm / 73kg)

Like this kid and at this end of the draft. Reminds me a lot of Langford from last year. Got that ‘cat like’ movement in his play and seems very composed around the ball. Good size kid and looks like will grow his body into a terrific shape. His vision is very good for mine and have seen him work through traffic and stoppages pretty well so there is plenty to work with.

# 32 North Melbourne - Davin Ferriera (Wanderers & Norwood / 174cm / 68kg)

19yo who is an electric player when at his best can have a real influence on games and turn things his teams way. Very quick and agile type who has shown he can play middle and forward. Has terrific ball winning skills despite his size and is good to watch when he exits a stoppage and or gets on the spread. Can take a mark and is skilled on both sides of his body and has made a really impact at both reserve and senior level for Norwood. Very light though and he is 19 so clubs might be worried about his physical attributes and they would also wonder if he is consistent enough.

# 33 Fremantle - Luke Surman (Norwood / 197cm / 97kg)

Came out of nowhere for me this kid. Wasn’t really on my radar but on a number of occasions at the champs he really made you look at him. Strong and aggressive type who can hit the pack hard. Comes out of a basketball background and you could see on a number of occasions he must have good vision because he made some great choices. Has strong hands and takes a good contested mark but isn’t that offensive and suspect if drafted is an area they will want to work on. Could play a few roles but I like him as a back.

# 34 West Coast - Kade Answerth (Oakleigh Chargers / 180cm / 80kg)....probably Murray Newman

19yo mid who I thought was super unlucky to go last year and who I thought presented a touch better than another player I liked who went in Jack Sinclair. Competitor and been a consistent performer all year. Get your head around this. Played for Oakleigh and was in bests 13 of 14 games, played in the Development league and was in the bests regularly there and then had some games in the VFL and applied himself well. Also played for Metro! If that’s not enough, seems to save his best for finals where he really stands up and absorbs the pressure and leads from the front. Got a good engine and burst of speed which allows him to play in and out of the contest. Got some time at Port Melbourne this year and did well so that will have helped his cause. Query on him is nothing other than leg speed and he has improved from what I could tell. Also, this kid has genuine footy smarts and game reading and he can make up for it there. Plenty of players have gotten through without it and forged terrific careers.

# 35 Hawthorn - Jack Firns (Oakleigh Chargers / 194cm / 90kg)

Kid is already a big unit and I have been super impressed with him every time. Looks to really want the contest and don’t often see him beaten 1:1. I think clubs will see him as a bloke in time who can play on the monster forwards of the competition. His skills are fine, he takes a good mark and he moves well but I think a club would want to work on him being more effensive. At the moment think more Nathan Brown. Tested well in the vertical jump at combine.

# 36 Carlton - Lachlan Tardrew (Bendigo / 184cm / 73kg)

Terrific performer for the Pioneers this year and averaged almost 30 possessions. Was named in their bests nearly every week it seemed and was a real standout. Probably a bit harsh to say but be interesting to see what he would have done in a much better team and I think he might be one that slipped through. I think the scouts are probably pretty aware he performed pretty well at their local senior level late in the year as well and am told a few scouts were there to see it. I think he will probably start as a medium back but he has scope to play in the middle and there aren’t any obvious knocks on his game.

# 37 Gold Coast - Nick Dodge (TAS / 179cm / 79kg)

Really clever HF type from Tas who has been pretty impressive at times and think a club will go with. Just a natural forward who knows how to get involved and hit the scoreboard. Very good mover, bit of speed and looks good exiting congestion, good hands and a lovely kick and he has a bit of time as well. Could play further up the ground but I think he is that Le Cras type who just belongs forward. Could go earlier than this.

# 38 Essendon - Mitchell Cox (Dandenong Stingrays / 181cm / 79kg)......probably Tom Wallis (Father / Son)

Saw a bit of him this year and surprised he doesn’t get talked about more. Was outstanding at TAC level and finished very high in the clearances for the year and is very good at winning his own footy. He is good at ground level and his hands on the deck are very good. His ball use by both hand and foot fine so there isn’t any massive knock on his efficiency. He didn’t do great things at champs but like Doedee he showed glimpses of it and I think scouts might have thought there is something there with him.

# 39 St Kilda - Chris Jansen (Central Districts / 189cm / 83kg)

Ex ACT kid who has had a super year with Central Districts and really thrust his name up as a HB / Wing / Mid type. Terrific size and athletically gifted and has really good ball use. There is still a lot of upside in him and I think clubs will be drawn to that. Has had knee issues in the past and clubs will want to be convinced they will hold up.

# 40 GWS - Jock Cornell (Academy Selection)

# 41 Port Adelaide - Kane Mitchell (Redrafted)

# 42 Western Bulldogs - Jed Adcock (Brisbane Lions)

# 43 Richmond - Tim Sullivan (Glenelg / 198cm / 97kg)

Hard to know but was part of the AIS group and mail is pretty well thought of. Problem is he didn’t play at all this year so can only go off his champs last year where I thought he would probably emerge as one of the leading rucks this year. GWS need a ruck though and they can assess him as a rookie for a year and see how he goes.

# 44 Adelaide - Lachlan Walker (Oakleigh / 189cm / 81kg).......but maybe Cameron Giles (Carlton)

Seen a fair bit of his and he has his fans. Few of the smarter guys in the TAC think he is a strong prospect. Great size, good athletically and lots of positional scope. Can play inside the contest as well and win his own ball. Average nearly 20 touches at 70% DE as well so nothing wrong there.

# 45 Sydney Swans - Harrison Marsh (Redrafted)

# 46 Fremantle - Anthony Morabito (Redrafted)

# 47 West Coast Eagles - Alec Waterman (Redrafted)

# 48 Hawthorn - Marlon Pickett (South Fremantle / 187cm / 82kg)

Marlon will have a bit to do convincing clubs he is worth the risk having spent some time in jail a few years ago. That’s in the past though and he let his footy do the talking this year. 23yo who has blistering speed, great hands with ball in air and on the deck along with real agility and is a player probably best used out of the back half where he can really attack the footy, gain possession and breakaway on the counter attack. Clubs want speed desperately and he has it. Averaged almost 18 touches a game and he doesn’t mind the defensive stuff either.

# 49 Carlton - Nash Holmes (Gippsland Power / 180cm / 74kg)

Contested ball beast who I see a bit of and is a real competitor and loves racking up touches. Interesting type because he is probably more an inside midfielder than out but having said that he can push forward and kick goals so he does have that attacking nature in his game. His go for mine is probably more at the clearances where he is happy to get involved offensively but will also work defensively if he cant impact the stoppage and he will also run back and help out defenders as well suggesting his endurance is pretty good. Still pretty light but I think he has that body shape that will fill out and he should become quite a powerful midfielder type.

# 50 Essendon - Aaron Black (West Perth / 180cm / 81kg)

Was he or Adam Marcon. Had Aaron in every year for last 3-4 so will keep trying to get him over the line. He is a fantastic player and dominated the WAFL comp. Does it all and can play forward and back. Brilliant ball user and he just reads the game so well. I think at AFL level he might actually be a medium forward.

# 51 GWS - Lach Tiziani (Academy Selection)

# 52 Port Adelaide - Daniel Capiron (Dandenong Stingrays / 189cm / 83kg)

With Moore going this guy is a good replacement. I thought was a bit unlucky not to go last year so have been watching him pretty closely and been really pleased with what he delivered across a number of different levels / teams. Played at Stingrays, played some VFL footy for Frankston where he had a couple of really good games and then at Champs. His best go I think is as a HB type where he can use his composure and ball use to really set play up.

# 53 Fremantle - Daniel Beddison (Oakleigh / 189cm 80kg)

Medium defender who took my eye in a few games I saw him in this year. Pretty athletic type and looks to play to team sstructures really well. Can play a shut down role or an attacking role. Very courageous type and seems to crave that element of the game. Thought he did a good job on Ah Chee when he had some time on him at Champs and that would have caught the eye. Finished off with a pretty good finals series as well. He is a good size, has some speed, can take a mark and pretty efficient user so will get looked at.

# 54 West Coast Eagles - Brant Colledge (Redrafted)

# 55 Essendon - Daniel Coughlan (Essendon VFL / 186cm / 86kg)

Been on the grid for a couple of years and I thought he might have gone last year. Really neat HB type who is a terrific size and pretty sleak mover in the mould of David Myers. He is well balanced and a lovely kick and he moved into the middle late in the year and was very impressive. He can win ball but equally as good off HB setting play up and looks like a type would transition well. Ball use is better than stats suggest.

# 56 GWS - Jack Irvine (Academy Selection)

# 57 GWS - Nick Coughlan (Academy Selection)

Jack Agostino ( West Adelaide / 182cm / 77kg)

Talented player who really put himself up there at the Champs. He is a small defender who seemingly has a terrific flare for the game and understands it well. Whilst he is quick and aggressive he also seems composed and makes very good decisions and to watch him aim up back through the middle of the ground is really good. See a lot of players who are quick but don’t have the time to settle and execute. This kid does and he also has the attack at the ball and physical aspects to his game.

Ben Allan (Coburg / 179cm / 73kg)

Light bodied mid who is quick and has good skill level. Saw vision of him at the Young Guns game and played well.

Brett Blair (Geelong Falcons / 189cm / 81kg)

Medium forward who was very well performed through the year and saw some vision of one of his final games vs NB. Kicked 4 goals and was pretty impressive. Would think he would be in with a real show but has had some injury issues and think needs some work on his endurance. Can do some exciting stuff though.

Bryce Batty (Eastern Ranges / 183cm / 78kg)

I was really impressed with this kid at champs and is a pretty hard working kid who was always in and under. Felt at times he didn't have the time other players had but that could be unfair as he was at the stoppages a lot. I think the special ones even in congestion can absorb the frontal pressure and evade. As I said he was good but there are a few around like him. Could well be one that comes through VFL as something there. Might even go back as a 19yo.

Gus Borthwick (Collingwood VFL / 181cm / 81kg)

Pretty impressive 19yo who played with Collingwood VFL side this year after coming across from Melbourne Grammer and obviously not being part of the normal junior talent pathway. Inside type who is strong around the contest and a good runner. Played 6 games for Dragons in the TAC and was named in the bests 3 times and then a dozen games at Collingwood in the VFL where he was named in the bests 3 times but he was a solid performer in all his games. Late December baby and only 2 days off being eligible for this draft as an 18yo. In the context of that his performances have been very good and I reckon he might slip onto Collingwood’s list.

Jayden Brind ( West Adelaide / 180cm / 94kg)

Solid kid who was pretty good at champs and came home pretty strong. Best spot is HF and has high footy IQ as seems to read game well and get to good spots. Like Hardisty last year probably needs to work on frame a bit.

Andrew Galluci (Williamstown / 178cm / 67kg)

Talented small forward for Willy who really announced himself this year. Has real speed and a bit of aggression at the ball so coupled with his ability to run the other way and his good ball use he may get taken in the rookie. Tested very well and reckon he could be one the Pies, Cats or Hawks look at.

Tim Golds (GWS)

Relationship with Buckley that goes back a while. Tall, versatile and had some injury issues and never really put it together consistently enough at GWS. Athletically supreme so will be interesting to see how he goes if he gets a chance.

Brayden Hackett (Swan Districts / 183cm / 69kg)

Very lightly framed inside midfielder from WA who was one of few who stood out at Champs this year off the back of a very good year at Colts level. Certainly knows how to find the ball, clean when he get it and is an elite user by hand or foot. In fact he went at 70+ DE at champs which is a great effort given the pressure he is usually under when in possession. Terrier type player who thrives on the physical side of the game despite his light weight. Very active player around the ground who uses his vision to make sure he executes well. The knock on him is that he doesn’t test real well for speed or agility so with added bulk to his frame there is a bit of work to do but there is something there.

Matt Hanson (Werribee / 185cm / 80kg)

Up from Tas last year where he dominated after being overlooked as a junior and has just carried it on this year. We all take about blokes like Broad and Jansen but he is up there with them for progression. Was interest in him last year and suspect he had some feedback to get to Victoria and see how he went. Went very well and absolutely dominated for Werribee as a midfielder who can win his own ball but also get on the spread. Has some speed and works very hard up and down the ground and he gets a lot of ball. Hasn’t been spoken of a lot but I keep pushing his case.

Thomas Jok (Dandenong Stingrays / 190cm / 72kg)

Sudanese lad who is very gifted and rated very high at the combine. He is a wonderful athlete who is starting to get it together from a football perspective. He is still learning the game and his results this year were good but it was probably the school rep game that might get him drafted. He kicked 5 goals, stood on blokes heads, used his speed etc to show case some pretty wonderful efforts. Was a shame he was injured at Champs as think would have been good for him.

Josh Kennedy (Eastern Ranges / 190cm / 68kg)

Late comer to the TAC with really nice ball use and huge upside. Suited to the wing / midfield type role but may develop back early.

Jake Lovett (Dandenong Stingrays / 182cm / 81kg)

Was a possible father son selection for Melbourne but they passed. I reckon it was probably his pace but word is a couple of clubs including Collingwood have had a look at him and my mail is a big chance to go.

Adam Marcon (Williamstown)

Jordan Matera (Sandringham Dragons / 182cm / 81kg)

Darcy McPherson (Northern Knights / 178cm / 69kg)

Had a really good year with Knights and tested off the charts at Combine so would think someone will swing the bat at him.

Murray Newman (WCE)

I think would be a neat find for a club looking for a pacy small forward / wing type prospect who has speed, agility and super ball skills. Obviously had his issues but so had Dane Swan and he did his time so for mine he is in the mix. Was genuinely surprised WCE let him go as thought having had the 2014 he had it was a pretty good effort to get a couple of senior games in 2015. For mine plays a bit like Lindsay Thomas and would love Collingwood to have a go at him.

Ryan pendlebury - Collingwood VFL

I reckon he might get a look in but there were a lot of tall defenders taken so hard to see happening. Pies could as cover for Scharenberg.

Patrick Phillips (Oakleigh Chargers / 184cm / 81kg)

If he had of kicked straight in that TAC GF he would have been talked up massively. Truth is.....good kick usually and think he just had a bad day. Pretty powerful sort of kid and he is a high IQ forward. He knows where to get to and has good hands. Below deck works well and runs hard the other way. Younger brother of Tom.

Nick Rippon (North Ballarat)

Josh Wagner (Aspley / 189cm / 81kg)

20yo who is a classy type and who has been going well in the NEAFL for a while now and has a lot of the characteristics scouts are looking for. Comes from a great QLD footy family and is a little in the mould of Adam Oxley in that he is that sleak moving wing / HB type who has a beaut foot on him. His issue is probably going to be that whilst he tests ok for endurance (14.5 beep) his speed is a concern having run 3.13s for the 20m at state combine. Older brother of Corey so lets hope they can stick together.

Jake Wilson

Tom Wilson (Sandringham Dragons / 194cm / 69kg)

Ex basketballer who is very light and suspect will go against him as might take him to long to get up to a level where he can physically compete. Very athletic though and has a decent set of hands so a club might take him as a late rookie and a long term project.

Alex Woodward (Hawthorn)

Inside midfielder with Hawks who has had some terrible injury issues but at his best was a dominant player for the Box Hill Hawks at VFL level and would have had no issue breaking into a lesser side.

Snoop Dog Why do you think Collingwood would pass on Golds who done every thing so far at the Club since getting Permission to Train with us?

Though love Callum Moore as our 1st Rounder

I think he probably will and the mail I have got suggests he will as well. Reason I didn't pick him was that we have two clear needs on our list. One a key forward and the other a small forward. We have a heap of those 6 foot plus multi position players now.....dont need another one. Golds may appeal as a depth player for Scharenberg possibly. That is in his favour.

Ps My smokey for that spot is Jed Adcock. Good coverage for Scharenberg! What do you think?

I thought the academy clubs could rookie undrafted nominated kids from the ND without having to run them through the rookie draft? Surely the lions take William that way.

And NM has said they'll redraft Majak. His court case is in progress but they would have known that at the time they delisted and publicized their intention to redraft. Good call on Jeffs, though if for some reason Maj falls through they really need a backup ruck.

Collingwood would only be taking 1 given they'd use picks on Darrean Wyatt, Josh Thomas and Lachlan Keeffe?

Adcock after the Berg injury does makes some sense and with the Report that we where thinking of Signing him as DFA. Gives it Possibility especially with a LTI Rookie Elvatation available.

Though I would not exactly use the Rookie Draft to Fill Needs on the List;) Snoop Dog

Snoop Dog It might be hard for Tom Wilson to be drafted considering he quit fotball two years ago to play basektball. He signed with SMY a few weeks ago after captaining the under 19 australian side. Interestingly he has grown 196 centimetres so if he'd stuck with AFL or if he comes back could be a very intersting forward with excellent skills and exceptional athletisiism

How tall was he before the massive growth spurt?

Tall. Like, real tall.

Found a pic of him at his Senior Prom:

Thanks Snoop! Great read and great effort!

As a hawks supporter I am actually very happy with your selections at pick 2 and 3 but would prefer Clark, Glen or Parsons with pick 1.

But seriously thanks for putting in the effort to release a rookie draft. You've gone to more effort than the afl by far ;)

I think the last thing the Crows need is someone who plays as the third tall defender. Need KP players and inside mids. Maybe Levicki or Surman before Keogh.

Yeah am a bit confused about Lions rookie list. Chol goes on as a Cat B player but they only have 1 rookie spot left which I understand they have used to commit to Paine as he is still contracted. Cant believe though they would let William go so maybe they have one more spot than i am calculating.

Agree on Daw just wanted to get other names up.

I think he is keen to get to Dogs. Understand he may have been living with their coach for some of the stay!
