Pickett according to channel 10 news. Was asked to take a $100,000/yr pay cut.
What the hell is wrong with you Port Adelaide?! IMO he is one of the most important players in the club. The club should smarten up.

Good decision Port Adelaide.

Hopefully Gilham is informed that he is a required player and we can hold onto him.

Byron Pickett!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just heard on channel ten that he is unhappy with the contract offered to him. He wants a 2 year contract and has only been offered one year. Suggestions are that he could head west or that he may want to play under Dennis Pagan at Carlton.
Gilham also was mentioned on the news about wanting to be traded to a victorian club.

Based on Byron's performance this year it seams like a fair call by the club! Maybe their thinking forward to use Byron as part of a trade for an inside midfielder from the west!!

Channel 10 say it's because 'his indiscretions', which sounds bull********.

His form is down, if they reduce the cut significantly, perhaps he'll pick up his form/fitness...or he'll get more comfortable. I can't see him going anywhere but the crows. I know that sounds stupid, but he came home for family reasons. The Carlton links are still just rumours.

More like Pagan has thrown big bucks at one of our players again.

I would think that off-field indiscretions are an excellent reason.

Its so annoying having to trade players because they want to leave, that means we already have the lower hand. Why can't we trade a player where we dictate terms for once. Notice Carlton were mentioned and guess who has the first pick in the pre-season draft...

About time the AFL did away with the pre-season draft.

I'll keep this simple: Pickett needs to be retained. Fantastic skills, and a good tough player. His so called "indiscretions" and the resulting penalties were both questionable to say the least. I have no doubt it caused him to change his style, and in turn perform poorly.
FFS PORT ADELAIDE, DON'T LET ANOTHER ONE GO!

And jumbo - it is not a fair call. Norm Smith medalist has 1 bad season, so get rid of him? What the hell are you talking about?

They weren't talking about off-field indiscretions. Vision of Pickett's 'charge' on Wiggins flashed up as they made their assumption.

I would think that `the season from hell' would be a more accurate description. Smashes his car in the offseason, gets repeatedly suspended and then has a ******** year on top of it. Gets the opportunity to perform in finals and passes it up. The only thing that could make it worse would be if he had relations with Choco's wife.

I have beensaying this all year. Lets just get it done and dusted in one draft. The big advantage or disadvantage of this is if a trade can not be found for Nick Stevens he then goes into the draft and Carlton then have to decide whether to use their first pick on the best kid in the country or on Nick Stevens. If they chose nick they have at least been forced to give up the number 1 kid to the next club. That way you would think they would gladly trade pick 4 so they get stevens and the best kid.

I wonder whether Gilham wants to leave or whether port do not rate him but are pretending they do. Win/Win situation for Port and Gilham if Gilham says he wants to leave rather then Port delisting him, then finding it hard to find a trade.

Just a thought..

I agree with you there porthos and missionimpossible. Getting rid of the Pre-season draft would force teams to come up with a fair trade and players cannot be ripped off. I just can't get over the Nick Stevens/Collingwood incident and would hate to see it happen again.

If Pickett doesn't like the deal then he can go. We could get a good trade for him. Lets face it he's been nothing very average this year, on and off the field. PAFC2004 tell me how many good games did he play this year. Around 3. How can he expect the same contract when he hasn't performed?

Pickett + Thurstans + 2nd Rounder for Pav.

Koppy if you could pull that off I'd appoint you recruiting manager.

Settle petal! I don't want Choppy to go, I just believe his contract should be based on his recent performances (not his un-questioned ability)
And talking about Byron's Norm Smith medal is like rating Woewodin on his Brownlow!!
If Byron doesn't like it we should try to do whats best for the club, favourites aside!!!
