By the way I find this thread offensive towards a guy that has given his all for the club.

Blame the coaches, blame the recruiting, blame the selection panel, blame the club but don't blame Blair!

Yeah Blair is a goer and leaves it all out on the field. But he is rightly questioned about his position in the 22. I'd have Varcoe in for Blair. Doesn't mean I don't respect Blair for his effort. He just doesn't have enough impact at the end of the day though.

Yes, I agree I just think it gets nasty for a guy that gives his all.

I have no problem with him being dropped. I've said for a few seasons now that I wish someone would take his spot.

I've now changed that to WE need to replace him & he becomes depth.

It's my opinion we can & should replace him, I just disagree with the vitriol of a Pies player that puts in.

I'll bag a Karnezis even Cloke for lack of effort, Blair no way, he deserves respect.

The worst performed of, and in no particular order: Mayne, Ramsay, Aish, Broomhead, WHE and Phillips probably being most likely. Thought he struggled to adjust to the pace of play in the 1's, not sure if he is better off in the 1's or 2's to further develop. Definitely a great prospect though Phillips

Ramma, WHE and Phillips aint going anywhere atm

Playing well in the Wizard Cup or against a bottom 6 team does not make people eat humble pie imo

Unless you're Degoey.

P.S. I like Degoey's potential, but his JLT game against Essendon elevated him to messiah status. I'm not sure how, but he's since lost that status.

Dog ate his status.

You are offended by people not appreciating Blair for single handedly costing us the game last week with his completely inept performance? I don't want to offend you further so I won't tell you where I think you should shove your offense then.

He's a seasoned experienced AFL player and he gets excused for dismal performance because he tries hard??? wtf??

I thought it was the coaches fault doodles? ;)

Think it becomes frustrating seeing a limited player who tries hard, consistently never in any danger of being dropped, when form dictates that he probably should of been many times over. All due to work rate.

It's not that he's being excused. It's just that it's a bit mean having a whole thread dedicated how bad he played.

People are criticizing Blair for something that is not his fault and outside the realm of his control. All you can realistically expect a professional sportsperson to do is try their best. Blair does this, without question. Week in week out. I don't know if you've ever played sport, but if you're trying your best and somebody says "Hey Doodles98! Just play better" it won't have any effect on how you're going. The hate should not be directed at Blair, who puts it on the line every week, and has done ever since he made his debut. The hate should be directed at the selection panel, for selecting him every week despite his current form.

Jarryd Blair is not the issue here, dude.

Smith, Varoce should play in the backline.

I somewhat agree

Blairs or the lack thereof from those players who should have already passed him by?

Jarryd is not the disease he is a symptom.

If we are to be any good, a part of that will be that players like Jarryd are no longer an automatic selection.

The fact that he is a basically automatic selection is a positive reflection on his desire, commitment, workrate and ability to have himself in a state of fitness to be available and prepared week in week out.

It is a negative reflection on our club that these things alone guarantee selection in the absence of better candidates due either to failures in recruitment or failures to have candidates fit and ready to take up the mantle.

It is a diabolically negative reflection on our club that that state of affairs has been allowed to persist for as long as it has. In those circumstances, being seen to blame Jarryd may be a classic case of projection in order not to identify the actual problem.

It is also common that people interpret mild dissatisfaction with his continued selection as "hate".

Dude, How is Blair playing a terrible game of inept AFL football not his fault or his problem and the issue? You are completely wrong dude.
Blair IS a capable AFL footballer. Not highly talented but his work rate makes up for it most times. Blair DID deserve to get picked last year. Blair DID deserve to get picked for round 1 as our most experienced and accomplished available player in the role. Blair put in an absolute shocker of a performance and deserves to be judged and criticized for it. Simple! I am talking about his performance in round 1.. not the overall ongoing argument around Bucks continuing to play him.

I have long defended that we play Blair because he's our best option for the role and no-one else has stepped up. I have NEVER blamed him for being a limited player. But this was such an inept and costly performance I think he deserved to be immediately dropped and someone else who IS or at least may be a better option given the chance... because based on that performance my cat would be a better option. He does not have the credit in the bank to perform like that; and we as a team and Bucks as a coach can't carry that sort of dismal shite from one of the more experienced members of the team.

It's hardly about being kind to him because he's a trier...it's about performance.. and setting standards of performance if you want to keep a spot. Calling him out for bad performance and wanting him dropped does not equate to "hate" ffs... I mean grow up! It's a big boys sport played by adults and run by adults, not 9 year olds.

As for your puerile comment about asking him to play better not working.. Yeah brilliant point.. but you know what does work... playing him in the VFL!
That's the bottom line dude.

I guess I'm just not an emotionally mature touchy feely sensitive warm and fuzzy kind of guy when it comes to assessing dismal performance and what should be done about it.

Blairs or the lack thereof from those players who should have already passed him by?

Both I dare say from the coaches viewpoint.

As in Blair has a great work rate that is keeping him in and some of the more skilled ones work rate must not be quite there yet in Buckley's eyes.

Said brilliantly and basically what I was getting at jackcass.

I wasn't argueing with you. People are blaming Blair when it is not his fault. Blair is not picking himself to play, the selectors are. Therein lies the problem.
