Spoke to a recruiter from within the crows on the weekend and gained some interesting facts from him:

- Only 3 pics to be used this years draft, unlikely to gain any good talls outside top 5 pics; Thats why we recruited so many talls last year;
- McKernan and Davis will play both Forward and Back in future;
- Moran should be playing up forward for the crows. Too good not to be in our 22.
- Next year 9 out of first 25 pics will be to GC. Therefore not much available to other clubs.
- Davis will be gun. Just needs to play out the year Norths (grow in his body) do a preseason) and then should play for crows next year.
- McKernan will play for crows this year - will be Gun wherever he plays. Super competitive and great athletic ability. Was in our top 8. Cant understand why he wasnt picked till 28.
- Watts, Davis, Hartlett, Johnstone were our top 4.
- Schoenmaker not in our top 15 (not competitive enough).
- Trengrove on ability top 5, but docs said his knee issues were similar to some player from Hawthorn ( i think Beau Muston) just too dangerous to use our first 3 pics on him, but would have used our 4th or 5th pics. Port were the only ones apparently with the balls to pick him up.
- Jordan Lisle too similar to McGregor, has no agility;
- Thinks the club shouldnt have taken sellar so early.

Told me other stuff but can remember just now.
Thoughts?

Re-enforces the love I have for Davis and SMACK.

With 3 picks, who's gonna go? Presumably we could have 1 retirement....so who are the 2 unlucky ones?

Did they say anything about the GC, trading with them, their stealing players ability?

Thanks Faith!

Did he say 2 promotions, or any of those delistments?

YEah, what did he sound like on Sellar, e.g, was too early, maybe should have been taken from 18-26, or too early....rookie list?

Thanks again.

So put Doughty in the leadership group one year and delist him the next? Yeahhh don't see that happening.
I don't care that they think they took Sellar too early, he's had enough time, I'm quite sick of him - do what they did to Porps if they feel the need to, delist him, and if he improves immensely, pick him up again.
Macca will retire, as well as Goody, I think (maybe depending on how he goes this year and if his back plays up again) Edwards will play at least one more year.

Just thought Sellar went way too early. Lacked intensity.
Interesting glowing praise for Smack and the lack of respect for sellar as a player.
General Pesimism over the next few drafts especially for talls, thats why i have no doubt they will promote a couple of guys from rookie this year.

Here we go another Sellar thread. Please no. Hasnt he been listed on extended interchange a couple of times this year, so the crows must think he is getting there. One bad game and the knives come out. Leave it till the end of season. If he plays the majority of games this year and pushes for AFL selection I will be happy. So far he has done this.

This thread is not about Sellar!
I just said how much he rates Smack and how little he rates sellar.

Did you ask whether this person thought we'd lose out anyone to the GC? And thanks for the info :thumbsu:.

Im assuming you mean players that are currently on our list.
No i didnt.
Logic will tell you, Tippet is the only one.

But every club will lose out in the 2010 draft.

Sorry; could see it heading down this line. I love these type of threads, with some actual substance and inner thinkings of club. Just like the one posted by someone a few months ago that had spent a night with Rendell. Absolute gold.

There's something about Davis I really like, but just haven't been able to put my finger on.

The crows recruiters love this bloke more than Danger.
I cant see it at the moment, but he said he needs SANFL game time this year and a full pre-season before we will see his talent.

He reminds me a bit of Jonathon Brown, not so much Chad Cornes.
He is a massive unit and is only 18.

He gave me more info on individual players if anyone is interested.
- Rated Sidebottom highly;
- Didnt rate Mitch Robinson highly because he is a 'nut case'

umm......
- Yarran is not even close to Rioli. (my feeling is if rioli wanted to come to the crows, we would have drafted him ahead of Danger. They loved Cyril)

Are these 5 your thoughts or those of recruiter.

My thoughts sorry.
I tried to get this out of him, but he says its impossible to know right now.

Again logically:
Shirley & Gill gone.

Im assuming Doughty's spot to be taken by Symes.

Interesting the intensity comment was made re Sellar...glad they see it also, hopefully he can make it because it seems there will be a dearth of tall talent coming up and we need to keep the depth we are developing. The lack of upcoming talls probably means that we wont be delisting young talls readily, so all he needs to do is have a decent season for Glenelg and he will get another crack. No guarantees yet though i wouldn't have thought.

Great to hear about Davis, McKernan AND Moran! I actually wonder whether his apparent lack of intensity is more game knowledge and knowing when to 'go' because unlike previous guys who we label as soft this guy actually marks the ball in packs, gets in at ruck contests, backs back with flight of the ball to take marks. I hope that he is a rare exception who can improve these aspects of his game (intensity and game knowledge) because if he does he has all the other attributes. As mentioned in the R6 selection thread, i believe the time has come for Moran's selection:thumbsu:

Re 5 delistings, i am not surprised. I even thought that could stretch to 6 if the rookies all perform (ie upgrade Schmidt, Moss, Martin). Unfortunately with Schmidt's apparent injury he may tumble down the rankings but i guess he could get a 2nd rookie year with Henderson and Donnelly, thus opening 2-3 rookie spots for some speculative picks or even some discards that may come thru given the GC upheaval that may be created for list management.

Of the 5 to go:

The odds are 1 veteran will go.

One of Hentschel, Burton or Gill (if no recurring injuries and Trent comes back well, Gill will probably go otherwise he may be kept for 1 more insurance year).

One of Shirley or Doughty (maybe both if all young blokes show something, but I'd say Doughty would have to have a disgraceful year to get the boot).

Sellar a 50/50 atm.

Gallman and Kite should be ok but would need to show something.

Possible trades may include a ruckman (only if they want out but I'd try to keep them all), and a Symes/Douglas type (not specifically them but a mid-range contributor who will never be a star)

I was as surprised as you when he said Moran is in our best 22 and should be playing forward. They must rate him.
Kite isnt going anywhere. Apparently has some issues. Even Gallman i would be surprised if they delsited him.
Its a tough one. I think shirley/Doughty/Gill/ will be delisted.

His long frame will definately fill out. No Doubt.

But it's something about his relaxed effortless moving with and without the ball. So easy.

Hopefully he developes like they want.

Does he remind you of anyone currently playing AFL?
They said he is similar to CHAD but i dont see it.
Looks like JB as i said before.

He's gonna fill out more than Chad and that may cause him to play a more conventional KP role.

Noone I can think of reminds me of him.

Such long arms, smooth mover and a 100% score on our decision making test.

Look there is no way our current recruiting team would have rated him so highly if he wasnt special.
I trust them.
Wouldnt have trusted Fantasia and his team eg watts/angwin/sellar etc
