Speaks volumes of the club as a whole. Not one player looked like they gave a shit tonight , no one came out and stamped themselves at a contest to say we mean business this year.
Same old story. First game of the season and half the board want to put the cue in the rack.
Boring.
Nice to put the foot down in the third but the rain killed our momentum and we didn't deal with their adjustments, particularly Sicily going forward.
Couple of dumb mistakes and blown chances and they put us away.
Wicks was fantastic at the back. Best game in years.

At least Cox looked like he gave a crap. Thought the new bloods looked pretty motivated, couple of the older hands need some time in the 2’s.

It’s not about one game. This is an extension of the past 2 grand finals. We want to see fight and hunger and we come out and dish that shit up.

I think "some promising signs" sums it up well JackHiscoxWasFast.
It's far easier to name our worst 5 than our best 5 tonight, yet we were still right in the game until halfway through the last against a team some had as the Premiership favourite.
I still don't rate the Hawks as highly as most others, and I think a better side would have put the game to bed a lot earlier. But the fact that we were really quite poor for 3/4 quarters and most of our big names had quiet games and a bunch of our players had stinkers, yet we were still in it until the last 10 minutes is probably a good sign overall.

Florent didn't lose the game , can't blame one moment but it was awful ducking timing, Cox was fuming, he knew it .
Despite the loss, nobody saying 'gee we missed Cunningham'

Really not sure about that part, their defensive group is very very strong. Midfield is strong too Day is a beast. Forward line didn't do too well tonight but look at the score they put. Vastly different to the team we played last year MCG.

Wicks covered him quite well.
We missed Gulden clearly but really missing a fit Mills to go back in a game like that. He doesn't kick that Florent kick or go for a 2 handed spoil
Some thoughts.
Grundy favoured Hawks with his touches for a lot of the game.
Umpires dudded us with not 15s all night.
Corey saved his game in the second half and showed some go.
Sheldrick needs more game time to improve his skills under pressure.
Some low IQ stuff in the backline at times kicking across goal in the wet, double fisted spoils instead of easy marks ( Melican).
Yes , Ramps looks to be done.
Amartey is better this year.
McInerney back to his best apart from his goal kicking.
Wicks to BP is a winner.
We are terribly reliant on Heeney and Warner. Badly need Mills back and fit asap.
We will be better for the run which is an advantage for the Brisbane game.

100 percent, I can cop being done by a better side if we had a serious crack, but to come out at HOME and get done by a team that was very rusty and not that good, well that’s just beyond disappointing.
