Some snippets from some board members and some of the coaching staff

  • Unlikely to get Kerr - would do it if pick 6 alone would do it, but not at WCE price. Feeling is that the Pies are in the box seat because of Didak
  • Might be a bit of interest in Brett Jones from WC and Beau Dowler
  • Expect Thornton to be offered up and maybe Walker too
  • Add Hartlett, Edwards, Jackson and Ellard to the list of those likely to go
  • Club thinks it might be a really good trade week with clubs like Carlton who have stocked up on kids, able to get very good deals out of clubs desperate to get picks ahead of GC17
  • If we keep pick 6, Hurley is the target but the recruiting boys think he will go at 4
  • Jeremias check this, but one of the coaching staff was saying Sammy J can stay on the rookie list for a third year
  • Aisake is gone and brought it on himself by going back to Ireland to play Hurling after adductor release surgery. Injured himself again and fcuked his season
  • Setanta might go with him
Just some titbits

Walker must have done something, he was the golden child not too long ago...

This is the third time now I've read he may be included in trade deals. It would be f*cking annoying if we trade him now and he tears the comp a new one next year

No way in hell the club would get rid of him now when he is finally starting to live up to his potential. There would be something seriously wrong if they offloaded him now.

......just on the odd chance we do trade him(seriously hope not), what can we expect in return for him??

Thanks.

Don't know about Setanta going when he's reportedly contracted and would have to be paid out.

But he might not be on a big contract.

Port will probably go tall when there are other rumours on the draft board they want Vickery.

Ellard is another Blackwell and won't make it because he's undersized.

I like Dowler and think he would be a good get.

Dowler is more talented than Bluebear's man Boyle and they have Thorp.

I'd trade Thornton for Dowler and their second rounder.

Or something along those lines.

Walker won't go.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I hope we keep pick 6 because it's looks like next year is the last draft before the Gold Coast team come in and take all the talent.

Why send Setanta to Germany to have surgery, if the club is willing to let him walk out?

I'd go for that, although I'm not sure if Thornton will fetch that much?

I'd love to get hold of a pick 17-20, maybe Melbourne would be interested in Thornton?

I know the Hawks have been interested in Thornton in the past, but there's no way we'd give up Dowler and a second round pick for him.

Boyle is my man? Thought I was after Mitch Thorpe.........oh well, you know me best.

I hope Walker doesn't go. I think we have missed his ability to break the lines, and his disposal since sining back has been better than it was in previous years. He still makes a few clangers, but no more than Murph, and he is hitting targets on the run, and can kick with both feet.

Run, jump, kick, one handed pickups...........Walker must stay.......unless we get J Brown for him.:D

I would believe that to be the case. I can understand that the club is interested in Kerr but I'm not exactly sure why. Trust the draft!

I'd be all for getting Dowler and I've been a fan of swapping first round picks and Dowler with the Hawks.

Not sure why we'd go after Jones. Decent player, but how many half back flankers do we really need?

Expect Thornton to be offered up and maybe Walker too

Walker must have done something wrong at the club to be considered tradeable. I'm amazed that we're not willing to part with more than our first round pick for Kerr but then AW is on the table. I would have thought that if we were to trade Walker then he'd be an ideal inclusion in a trade for Kerr (note: I don't want to trade Walker)

Thornton being on the table isn't a surprise but I don't think we should trade him. If we can get a 1st round pick then I'd be all for it, but fact of the matter is that we won't, and I'd trust Thornton to be better than most 2nd round picks.

Add Hartlett, Edwards, Jackson and Ellard to the list of those likely to go

The club mustn't think that Harts' body can hold up in which case it's disappointing but the right move. Jackson can't break into our midfield and it won't be getting easier to get in, so trading him is probably the right thing for him and the club if we can get something for him. Edwards I think is worth persisting with for 1 more year - after all, how many developing young forwards do we have that can push him off the list? Very surprised by Ellard, don't see why we wouldn't give him the 2nd year on the rookie list.

Club thinks it might be a really good trade week with clubs like Carlton who have stocked up on kids, able to get very good deals out of clubs desperate to get picks ahead of GC17

Shows that we are willing to trade our early picks. I'd be all for it if the right deal came about.

If we keep pick 6, Hurley is the target but the recruiting boys think he will go at 4

Pick 4 will be going to Port, and it would be out of Hartlett, Hurley and Vickery for their pick IMO. I'd love to get Hurley but don't think it will happen.

Jeremias check this, but one of the coaching staff was saying Sammy J can stay on the rookie list for a third year

How?

He's not an international rookie, and this is his 2nd year on the rookie list.

Aisake is gone and brought it on himself by going back to Ireland to play Hurling after adductor release surgery. Injured himself again and fcuked his season

Aisake being delisted is but a formality. Not good enough.

Setanta might go with him

I think we'll hold him for 1 more year but it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't.

This is a fantastic time to trade high draft picks.

Uusally the high draft pick are well over-rated, in all fairness the top 10 of each draft are going to give you 100 games each.

However, the next couple of years the draft picks will be even more highly rated. Anything in the first round now will fetch much more as clubs with older lists NEED kids as they wont get much after 2010.

By the way im still massively in favour of trying to pinch Brendon Lade from port. I think he is very gettable and is an easy trade for everyones favourite JR.

Are you serious!!!!
Rabble rabble rabble rabble (apologies to South Park)

On the Thornton up for trade notion.

I dont know if anyone else noted this but after the win at the gabba, he seemed less than bouyant. I dont know if this is just his demeanour but he was certainly less than ecstatic.

Maybe he has already been given a heads up to a trade?

Maybe im just reading into things but i was very surprised.

Whilst i think the rule used to be that you could only have a max of 2 years on the Rookie list at the one club, this has definitely changed now as Beau Wilkes is on his 4th year in a row on the RL at West Coast.

I'd have no hesitation keeping Jacobs for one more year as ruckman are always slower to develop.

Wasn't Wilkes delisted and then re-rookied?

Two other comments that I just recalled

  • Forget talk about Josh Kennedy having the "sh*ts" with us for trading him. He would "come back tomorrow" if a deal could be done
  • And the thinking on Walker appears to be that he is more highly rated "out there" than "in here" because he was a #2 pick - i.e. we may be able to do relatively well in a trade scenario

l would suggest if this is TRUE, it would seem very unprofessional of a board member to be putting out possible player trades and putting out this information in a public forum.
How would you feel if you were a Thornton or Walker and a board member was circulating this info, not the way we should operating at a board level.

I think John Worsfold is aware of this talk because on his rant the other day about needing to trade all of our list to get Kerr he said we wouldn't be getting Kennedy back either, which was strange because no one else mentioned Kennedy.
