The Beatles > Oasis

Isn't it....Blur > Oasis ??

Anyhoo, that's not why I'm here. I'm here to hopefully aggravate a few RHCP (and Janes Addiction) fans by saying......

Frusciante > daylight > Navarro

(Note: I would have also mentioned The Panic Channel but I was in some doubt as to whether they actually had any fans.)

That needs clarification as it only applies to the RHCP. Navarro's guitar work with Jane's Addiction is masterful. His solo stuff is pretty indulgent and he wasn't right for RHCP.

I'm a Jane's fan, but I reckon I'd have to stop short of "masterful". I find Navarro to be a guitarist with quite a bit of technical ability, and very little soul. He's the Don Simmons of alterna-rock.

Frusciante has both technical ability and a truckload of soul, and he displays a much better feel for melody. His (more current) work with RHCP is excellent, and his solo albums, particularly "To Record Only Water For Ten Days", are really decent listens.

Appears to be a much better bloke, too. Which is all important.

(On a side note, before RHCP took on Navarro, they briefly employed a guitarist by the name of Jesse Tobias. A man otherwise known as Mr. Angie Hart. I met Jesse once, and the stories of drug use and general rock 'n roll excess that he told me gave Motley Crue's "The Dirt" a run for its money.)
