While trying to forget about how we managed to draw a seemingly unloseable game, I though the following stats from todays game might be something positive to focus on instead of the usual negatives.

Based on todays 22's:

Richmond:
Average Age - 22 yrs 11 mths
Average Games - 42.8
Games played:
less than 50: 14
51-99: 4
100 +: 4
Not a single player over 30 and not a single player with over 150 games.

Roos:
Average Age - 24 yrs 11 mths
Average Games - 81.3
Games played:
less than 50: 11
51-99: 2
100-149: 5
150+: 4
2 players over 30 and 2 players with over 250 games.

When you look at those figures, it is a real positive for our kids to have been up 7 goals at half time against a side with that much more experience.

Nice work RT. This is all we could ask of Rawlings and the RFC. With the season done and a whole stack of older guys not delivering we needed to see what the future stocks are like. Credit to Rawlings for backing the kids and credit to the kids for having a dip.

With time they will grow together and put good performances together.

Yup great thought - heard this on the radio also.

BUT, today's loss was unforgivable. 42 points up and to LOSE it the way they did - it didn't have anything to do with experience, it was beyond that... they have serious mental problem.

Great stats - someone get this to the press so that every football supporter (especially those bagging the Tiges) can see what sort of a future we have.

Can you do some more pondering and get back to us with those stats on Geelong and St Kilda as that would be good to compare and then we can see how long we have to wait until we're a top four side.

Something To Ponder??.................what we are witnessing now, we should have been witnessing 2 years ago and now we should have been on the march up the ladder. There is nothing wrong with a young team not knowing how to seal a win....there is everything right with a young team getting in a position where they can seal a win......and the icing on the cake...we have a KPP thats going to hit packs and pulverise them....welcome to the fold Posty.....;)

at the very least we should have seen it immediately after R4 loss to melbourne, TW had NO balls in that regard

Nah we wouldn't. We wouldn't have delisted Brown, Bowden, Simmonds when they were 28.

Pretty sure all those microwaves in the salon have left him with a couple of sultanas Bo... (Gee, I sound like a Carlton flog!)

But you are right... we should have been ringing the changes after round 4, not after a 'farwell game' in round 11.

We lost a good 6-7 weeks of development right there...

All these stats look pretty but if we don't get some serious development into the current group then we will be back here in another 3 or 4 years time.

I have seen this all before so forgive me if I take it all with a grain of salt.

I'd argue thats exactly what we are starting to witness, real development. Getting games into our kids in postions and structures that suit our style of play and a coach that has actually got them playing for him and the jumper. Every week it seems a different player gets mentioned in some form of break through experience and forcing us to rethink. In recent weeks the performances of some of the banished in Tambling, Deledio, Edwards, King, Nahas, Sylvestor and FFS even McMuffin have shown us they can play and are responding accordingly. Add to that Vickery and Post and 2009 is not a complete abortion after all. Sure they have a way to go but to play the way they are without some of the stars is poles apart from where they were 5 weeks ago. I think Rawlings is showing what development is all about and is doing his chances no harm at all.

Well done RT for taking the time to do this!! Anything that helps us to get a more realistic perspective is great and this certainly gives me reason for optimism. It also makes the whole coaching recruitment that much more important to ensure these boys are handled to maximise their development. Nice one. Keep up the posts !!!:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

People were saying the same thing during KBs time as coach...

We are one of those paintings that you have to look at at a certain angle or perspective to see the good in it.

Cant wait for it to look good for us simpletons who tend to look at the ladder, game results and finals draw.

yeh that is a good point but when your present is bad and your past is worse there is only one angle left to look from/at. the future

Agree with what you have said, my point was that its not all doom and gloom. We need to show faith in what has been happening the last month and continue down this path. Reward the kids that are showing form and play them as long as form warrants.

Re: we were 7g up on Norths' ol stagers

with half the experience that North put on the filed we managed to find ourselves 7 goals up after an hour of footy. With twice the experience the best North could manage was to draw level....Who was the winner.

:thumbsu:On Victory we thrive Eat'em Alive:thumbsu:

I really think we had tanking in mind yesterday. We used the first half to show what we are capable of and the 2nd half we thought about Scully :D. It seemed like they came back too easily when we because we did it so easily in the first half. I though North may have been tanking in the 1st half but they obviously weren't. It just didn't seem right and i wasn't even bothered strangely. When they hit the front I thought we are still in the running for a ready made gun midfielder. I didn't know if I wanted us to win or lose

The beauty of this group of youngsters is that we have so many all around the same age bracket, with players on every line who either have shown they have it, or that they have definite potential.

Backs - Moore, Thursfield, McGuane Rance
Centres - Connors, Cotchin, White, Tambling
Forwards - Morton, Post, Reiwoldt, Nahas
On-ballers - Deledio, Foley, Jackson
Rucks - Vickery, Browne, Graham

No doubt I have missed a couple of the top of my head who should be added here, and I have left out a few on purpose. We will no doubt add to this list at this year's draft, with a couple of players who are not too far behind age wise.

We can only hope this group stays together and grow as a unit over the next 2-4 years. It will take at least another two pre-seasons before this group have the physical and mental fitness base to play four full quarters of footy at this level.

Youth is our greatest asset. It can also be our greatest pitfall too.

Yesterday we witnessed a young and inexperienced side that has a long way to go both on and off the ground. All the skills sessions and training drills you practice mean very little when the pressure is on in the main arena.

Whether it's Rawlings or whoever, I am sure the emphasis on skill execution under pressure will be addressed prior to round 1 2010:thumbsu:
