All of a sudden Teague and Morell are dud because they have been traded to Carlton.

Face the facts guys you got shafted in this trade.

They are not duds, they just are not going to be stars in the North line up.

Most Roo supporters see their qualities, but also their deficencies. i have no doubt they will perform in the Carlton side, but they will not be part of a powerhouse make up, and that is what i hope North are building towards. Facts are, they were both out of our best team in the second half of the year. Not through injury, not to regain form, just becuase there were better options.

I think Diggers has the most scope to improve, and I hope he becomes even better than I can forsee at this stage. Teague will go hard, and will never take his eyes off the ball, but that is where the similarities with Archer end.

If you go through the roos board, you will notice that most recognised their deficiencies well before this trade was thrown up.

Dude, the fact that you're stoked about getting Teague and Diggers into your side while they couldn't get a spot in our best 22 says something. Porter's no gun, but neither is Corza. Porter is still solid enough while we wait for Hale and McIntosh to develop - Corza could go either way, but we're only giving up two guys who aren't going to be permanent fixtures in our side anytime soon.

Have a think about posting before you do, trades often go a lot deeper than they look on the surface, the Roos board will provide you with all you need to know about why it's good to have McKernan back at North.

Just sems like an inconsequential trade to me. Corey is well pst his best.

The best North could hope for is another year like his 2002 which was ordinary. He may have won Carlton's B&F but hw wouldn't have placed in anyone else's and he'd be unlikely to have been top 5 in most. If North are very very lucky they'll get 2 of those years from him and he'll keep someone with a future out of the side while North build their team.

Carlton get 2 players North have well and truely assessed and decided are not up to scratch. They'll get games at carlton but what is the point? When Carlton get a better squad together they'll be cut.

I'm honestly waiting until the end of season 04 before making a udgement on who won from this deal, but I suspect that McKernan will flourish when reunited with his Roos mates and not under the coaching of Pagan, with whom he has a strained relationship at best. I also suspect that Teague ands Morrell will do quite well in a Carlton side that is, lets face it, not nearly as strong as the North Melbourne side. They should have the opportunity to prove thier worth to the Blues this coming season.
Right now, I'm officially saying nothing, unoficially, though, we may find both clubs win out of this deal.

The initial Porter/McKernan deal in 2001 was as below,

Roos received Porter, plus pick 14(Ashley Watson), plus pick 30(ROD Crowe)

Blues received Corey, plus pick 39(Justin Davies), plus pick 23 which you ontraded to get Justin Murphy back.

2003 deal, Roos get Corey who the Blues pay the majority of his wages. In the years he was at the Blues he won their B/F in his first year, and topped their Brownlow count this year.

Blues get Teague and Morrell, both handy players, but Teague couldn't get a game at the Roos, Digby didn't take his chances. Both of them where not good enough to get picked up in the draft by any club, and both had made it through the Rookie listings. But both of them should be able to walk staright into Carltons best 22, and thats more of a reflection on the state of the Blues list, than on their palying abilities.

McKernan, who had been well below his best, for two surplus Roos who will get more chances at Carlton is a good trade for both clubs. If Corey rediscovers the Fountain of Youth - or the Antidote to Pagan - Roos could win big. That's my 20 cents.

'Bout sums it up.

North have punted on an "if", and that is fine by me.
