Harvey said he was happy to persevere with the younger breed.

"There has been a reluctance to play a lot of the younger players over the past couple of years," Harvey said.

"If you look at clubs across the board this year, they are playing a lot of younger players and they seem to be able to cope with the game better because it has become more of a running game."

And Harvey admitted the likes of Rhys Palmer, Garrick Ibbotson and Marcus Drum getting selected had put some more experienced Dockers' noses out of joint.

"They get their back up against me, no question about that ... and it comes down as a personality of you as a coach and how you deal with those situations," Harvey said.

So - who??

There's bound to be speculation, so we might as well get the rumour mill cranking here - it'll no doubt make it's way to the main board and to Bay 13 soon enough... ;)

MCarr would have to be pretty pissed. He probably would've thought he could do his one week stint in the magoos, rack up his 29 fairly useless stats, and get the next month assured. Josh might not be all that happy that his bro has been dropped twice in three weeks...

Which other senior player(s) is missing out on a game, and / or who else would be that selfish as to want to deny a young bloke a game and hinder the club's movement forward?

Pav - nah
Belly - too far removed IMO
Hase - injured so would it affect him? nah
Blacky - can't see it, probably too concerned with getting himself right... although maybe if he thinks he's right to go he could feel a little hard done by
MaJ - not fit, and not at the club long enough to "pull rank"
Taz - hmmmm... who knows, and now with his "mystery ailment"... nah
McPharlin - too religious ;)
Grover - should be more concerned about his own form... maybe??
Dodd - ???
Macca - should be more concerned about holding his own spot, but could see it...
Thornton - needs to concentrate on his own form... but nah.
Peake - yeah
Solly - can't see it myself, only his second year at the club so doesn't really have the time on his side.

Whoever has their noses out of joint needs to be told get over it now, or never play for Freo again. If they continue, then show 'em the door at the end of the year. End of story.

Yep. For the first time EVER, I feel confident that we have a coach who isn't going to cop bullshit from the players. I said at halftime in the game last week that M. Carr and Thornton had to go, and it looks like I and the match committee were watching the same game for once. :p

I have a good feeling about this season. It may not be a 'success' in the sense of playing and winning finals, but there's a real sense of change in the air. Changing of the guard etc. Harvey knows he has three years to build a team capable of having a genuine crack at the flag. I'm sure he intends to use those three years wisely, and I intend on backing him 100%, especially when we see the way the team has looked from rounds 2-5 this year. :thumbsu:

Matt Carr was on PR tonight and said everything right, from what he was saying I would be surprised if it was him.

I tend to think more along some of the 24 - 25 yr olds who are struggling

I reckon the Carrs are definite possibilities. They seem like the types who would have been used to having a fair bit of influence under CC.

Macca is the other one who comes to mind. He can probably see the writing on the wall with all these young midfielders being blooded.

Whoever it is it's good to see the tail is wagging the dog anymore. Chop the bloody thing off at the end of the season if you have to Harves. Our club needs a serious culture change.

Being an "All-Croation" squad member that type of injury could put him out for weeks. :D

But Harves comments are what we have been asking for.

For a very, very long time. :(

Thornton and Peake?? Browne is eternally injured - as is Webster. Dunn's been relegated so he doesn't count; Kiwi maybe; Kep's not been around long enough; Warnock maybe... I guess it doesn't say "senior players" just "more experienced" ones.

What did Carr have to say?

I would assume that the noses out of joint would come from those who have lost their places in the team, fighting for their places or have been dropped at some stage.

So from this I would hazard a guess at M.Carr, Macca, Tazza perhaps Josh sticking up for his bro. Spud might even be a touch antsy. Blacky seems abit edgy when he plays so maybe he feels the pressure too.

My view is let them get their noses out of joint, put up or retire\leave.

What did Carr have to say?

He didn't have a job to do last week and was more just helping people out. Understands as a 10 year plus player what he has to do to get back to that level.

Stated he didn't start pre-season until Jan and just needs game time so cant wait to get back to east freo.

Mentioned how the young kids have given a real spark to the side and it doesn't take long for things to turn around. Really highlighted all the attributes Garrick possesses and how important he could be to this club.

Did not seem like someone with issues in regards to selection

Absolutely! :thumbsu:

However, it seems Tazza is dealing with a few other things at the moment, and Harvey is very supportive of whatever is going on, so I reckon he's good as far as attitude goes.

i am happy that they are a bit pissed, hopefully they go and dominate the wafl and force their way into the team. I think from reading the wafl rap up ion the paper that our guys have been in better form than ever. Although they also had m carr as best on ground against peel.

You'd think the more older senior players would have a more mature outlook on the game and life. I doubt they would be chucking a hissy fit, rather than concentrating on their own form and fitness and giving themselve every chance to be picked so there valuable experience can be used.
Point in case; McManus - favourite whipping boy for years but he was still running down, chasing and tackling the opposition - evident in our last match against Adelaide.
He can get into free space, and whilst we all know the skills area is are not the best - he plays with heart and bleeds purple. We want that spirit to rub off on all the young up and comers... Bell is the same, leads quietly by example..

It's healthy that competition exists now in the club. Perhaps this shows we should've done it sooner.

Well that all sounds very positive. Hopefully that's the same attitude that he carries behind closed doors also. :thumbsu:

So he's an Ibbo fan is he? Cool. What did he say about him?

Says out of all the youngsters he has the most impressive "afl qualities" to really take the game by storm. Now it is just a matter of utilizing those talents and becoming the player they all believe he can be

hearing this is great. Harvs influence will spread and people will start wanting to play the game instead of expecting and hopefully that will mean a few players will hit a bit of form.

:thumbsu: Even more than Palmer? That's saying something!

You have been right all along Cam.

MCarr for sure would have his nose out of joint.
Hes not exactly gonna say it in interviews though is he.

If Josh has a problem with matt being dropped thats a big problem.
He needs to be worrying about his performance and the teams only.

Black probably would to he seems like the type who cant handle being dropped.

Great to hear exactly what we have needed.
Lets hope Harvs can put a gameplan in place.
Coz i believe he can definatly get our players performing week in week out.

Actually, the 'noses out of joint' was probably a generic, off the cuff coaches comment to keep the media happy and probably refers to no one at all -just means he'll make changes whether players like it or not.

Harves is very clever, he seems to say a lot but really keeps his cards close to his chest ("keep your friends close and your enemies closer").

I'm loving it.

Good perspective, Im loving how Harves is dealing with all aspects of coaching too.

I think a few players might have been brought back to reality though. Guys like Peake, Matt Carr, Josh Carr, Mundy, Macca, Schammer, Thornton, maybe even the Wiz, would have had their cards laid out on the table pretty straight forward I think. The coaches would have let them know where they are at and what they have to do and the direction the club is moving.

I hope the stories about the Carr brothers aren't true though coz that is pretty bad, especially with Josh being vice capitano.

And I thought at the time in a shot on the news when he was talking to Harves that Macca looked pretty pissed off that he got sent back to the gummies rather than coming straight into the team the week we played Richmond... But I hope it was just a shot out of context or something coz the guy can't seriously think he should be in the 22 every game this year.

Anyway, keep up the good work Harvs and co. :thumbsu:

You don't think MaJ or maybe even KB might think their entitled to exert a little more pressure because of a longer association with the coach?

Most of the guys mentioned are still getting a game and some of the ones that aren't might feel justified if MiJ and Tequila maintain current form.

Sounds like a similar story to Blighty at the Crows, found the tail wagging the dog ,applied the blowtorch to Mcguiness and co, bought in the youngies and voila, two premierships in a very short time.
The tail and the dog story has been going around about Freo for a long time so congrats to Harves to hopefully dock (excuse the lame pun) the tail and remove any fleas on it.

Ah, what a breath of fresh air. Whether they're happy or not they will all know what it's gonna take to get a game with Freo from here on in. Congrats Harvey, it's been a long time coming.:)

I'm kind of happy that Harvey has realised this early on. Had we been a season or two further on he wouldn't have the luxury of time to make significant list changes - ie, he would be damage control coaching like CC for the last few years.

I've almost convinced myself that the bad start is a good thing:confused:

Yep. In the CC years, they always seemed to err on the side of generosity, not ruthlessness. Let's start with CC himself. I think he had a two year contract initially (correct me if I'm wrong) but as we made the finals in his second year, a two year extension was perfectly fair. But he should have got the chop after 2005, I believe. But what did they do? Extend his contract at the beginning of the season to 'take the pressure off.' WTF? Aren't these people supposed to be performing under pressure? I hope Murphy realises that he is under pressure to perform, so that he can continue to have a career at Freo (and the money and privileges that go with it). Everyone from the top down should be under pressure to perform. I think we saw that for the first time in round 22 last year when Harvey dropped six players. Most of us weren't too happy with the team selections in Round 1 but it's been pretty much spot on since then. The players haven't performed to expectations, so he's shuffling the team until he can find 22 players who want to give 100%.
