Hey Guys,
This is my first attempt at a phantom draft. Feel free to post comments. Only Top 25 as after that it becomes increasingly difficult to even come close :)

#1 – GWS: John Patton
GWS now have a centre half forward for the next ten years. Patton plays in the mould of his namesake in Jonathon Brown. He’s a monster of a lad who is an incredible mark and great kick for goal. He has courage, crashes packs and leads well. He will play next year and impress.

#2 - GWS: STEPHEN CONIGLIO
Coniglio has been dominating WAFL for a couple of years now, and his National Champs confirmed his status as a top two pick. He has pace, a high quality skill level and is a clearance machine. He also loves to kick a goal. He is the definition of a complete midfielder, who along with Scully, Tyson, Ward and Shiel, will prove to be a dominant force as a midfield for Greater Western Sydney.

#3 – GWS: DOM TYSON
Dom possesses all the attributes that will make him a 15 year player in the AFL. I liken him to a young Simon Black or Scott Pendlebury. He plays as an inside midfielder, but don’t be fooled as he has an outstanding left foot kick. He doesn’t do anything amazing athletically, but he’s a pure footballer who uses his smarts and skills to work his through awkward situations.

#4 - GWS: MATTHEW BUNTINE
Buntine is a great size for playing senior this year. Will add another gem to the future GWS midfield gold. See if he can stay injury free. Will probably start at half-back to grow into the pace of the game. Great inside/outside player to add to the engine room.

#5 GWS: BILLY LONGER
Very tough pick this one, but GWS will not take the risk of potentially letting the best ruckman in the draft go to another club. Longer is clearly the standout ruck in the draft. Stands tall, great leader and likes to push forward and have an impact. Dominates hitouts, but around the ground he needs a little more work. Kicking can be suspect and endurance will have to be worked on. He’ll have time to be developed as we have Giles and Brogan.

#6 PORT ADELAIDE: Chad Wingard
The best player out of South Australia and this pick is a ‘no-brainer’. Thought to be a top 3 pick about a month ago but will now slip to a very happy Port Adelaide at 6. Another left footed midfielder who has elite skills. He can play both inside and outside, is quick and does have a great leap on him. The young Port midfield is starting to form up very nicely now with the likes of Boak, Hartlett, Gray, Brad Ebert among others.

#7 GWS: WILL HOSKIN-ELLIOT
Plenty of impressive highlights filled with run, carry, grabs and goals. Long kicking and exciting. Something to try and help bring fans through the gate as GWS builds an excitment machine in the midfield. Could become a superstar in the Goddard mould however could also become the next Cale Morton. Exeptional draft camp testing however gets him the nod.

#8 BRISBANE: Toby Greene
Tough, inside midfielder with a huge tank. Racks up possessions but is not just an accumulator, often winning clearances and displaying the footy smarts to make good decisions by hand and then keep moving without the ball to put himself in better position for the next play, and has shown the ability to run forward and put points on the board.

#9 GWS: Liam Sumner
Sumner will begin playing immediately, probably starting as a half-forward in a role in which he is very good at. He will eventually become an outside midfielder as he develops at AFL level. Sumner has comparisions to a Dale Thomas type, with a very good skill level, exciting game style and great tackling game.

#10 GWS: ELLIOT KAVANAGH
Elliot has the potential to be the best player in the draft. He missed the National Champs through injury and has missed quite a bit of footy. Kavanagh is just such a smooth mover, has elite skills, makes good decisions and can find the pill. He also is a very nice size as well. The Giants could not be happier right now.

#11 GWS: Adam Tomlinson
GWS fills a need with this pick. With the Key defending stakes very low. GWS could not afford to lose a Phil Davis for an extended stint. Tomlinson would fill the gaping hole in CHB for GWS, but also ensure the future. Great strength and size. A really tough choice between him and Talia – but his skills give him the edge.

#12 BRISBANE: Nick Haynes
Haynes is a tall, athletic forward, capable of pushing up through the middle. His athleticism (he ran a 14.13 in the beep test at this year’s draft combine), height and fantastic marking strength overhead will all be great assets up forward to compliment JB. Has shot to prominence after winning the Dandenong Stingray’s B&F this year in a season that saw him poll in 10 of 13 games.

#13 GWS: Devon Smith
A strong tackler, with good defensive pressure. Smith is a Fantastic Midfielder/Forward. At 175cm he is considered small however he is very quick and agile with great endurance and has a Strong overhead mark for size.
Can rack up the possessions while kicking plenty of goals(round two, U18 Championships - Six goals and 27 disposals. He is a ready made Small forward that will fit right in.

#14 GWS: Shane Kersten
Shane Kersten is good ol’ fashioned full forward. He is a superb mark with a brilliant set of hands. Has a natural ability to find the goals from anywhere and is well balanced, confident and accurate with the set shot, even from outside 50. Finished the season with 24 goals in his last 5 games. There’s quite a bit of Fevola about the way he plays if you’re looking for an AFL comparison.

# 15 RICHMOND: Sam Docherty
Docherty possesses one of, if not the best kicks in this draft, and foot skills are something valued quite highly these days. Sam will play out of a back pocket or half back flank and outstanding run from defence as well as shutting down an opponent.

#16 FREMANTLE – Andrew Boseley
Boseley is a key defender and has been likened to Dustin Fletcher with his closing speed and ability to make up ground to get in the prime position to spoil his opponent. He is also in the Ben Reid mould in that he loves taking marks from opposition kicks and thrives in the 1:1 contest. He also has incredible closing speed for a player of his height.

#17 WESTERN BULLDOGS: Todd Elton
An excellent size, though talk of him being a ruckman as well as a key forward is a little fanciful. Fine hands, very good below the waist and enjoys the contest. Hasn’t dominated consistently at his current level, but he has the tools, including a fine kick, and is apparently a quality individual

#18 NORTH MELBOURNE – Taylor Adams
Adams is a pure inside midfielder who possesses great speed, awesome awareness in traffic and a good set of hands. Taylor is a great kid is seen as a potential leader of his new club in the future.

#19 ESSENDON – Hayden Crozier
Picking Crozier is no doubt a risk, though one with potentially huge rewards. Hayden has an abundance of skill and athleticism and the ability to do the absurd in a manner that not many players can. He is an electric half-forward type who will hopefully develop the engine to run the wings and give Essendon the X-factor they currently lack

#20 FREMANTLE: Alex Forster
He is a medium back that can run through the midfield. He performs great stopping roles, but will also prove to be a devastating rebounding player for us in the future. He is a beautiful disposer either side of the boot.

#21 SYDNEY: TOM MITCHELL (Father-Son)
Tom is a Courageous & Smart Footy Player Who has A Great Left Foot Kick. He reads The Play Well and Can Tackle hard. He will be A Great Replacement for an Ageing Jude Bolton. The Swans Will be Stoked with Him and Will be a Future Champion.

#22 CARLTON: Mitchell Grigg
An AFL built inside midfielder with very damaging skills. He has the ability to win plenty of the contestant ball and use it effectively while at the same time his outside game is just as good. His main strength has to be his kicking, the 50 meter bullet passes will definitely have recruiters looking at him. He dominated the champ series and dominated to make a mark in the SANFL.

#23 WEST COAST: Shane Nelson
A local WA lad who West Coast will find difficult to pass up if still available. Nelson is a super competitive ball winning midfielder that had a terrific under 18’s carnival averaging 22 disposals representing WA.
An ultra-reliable player that mixes a strong inside game, with hard running link up work to regularly rack up huge possession counts.

#24 GOLD COAST: Brad McKenzie
With McKenzie being available at pick 24, he will just too good to pass up. Brad is a quality ball user with a lethal long accurate left foot, who can play wing/flank for many seasons to come. Brad has really good hands at stoppages thus has the ability to rotate through the midfield if required. He can also push forward and loves to kick the long goal. But the real attraction to Brad is his ability to break lines.

#25 ST.KILDA: Brandon Ellis
Ellis is a tough and skillful medium-sized defender, who had a a standout NAB AFL Under-18 Championships with Vic Metro where he averaged 18.2 disposals at 75.8% effectiveness. This saw him named in the All-Australian Under-18 team. He’s efficient with his ball use, and courageous when a ball needs to be won. He’s also a playmaker, equally as capable shutting down a dangerous opponent as setting up attack. But best of all he’s strong enough to jump straight into AFL footy.

Fair enough. Who do you see as the more likely candidates :)

As good as Adams may be I very much doubt we'd go for another indside midfielder with Ziebell, Swallow, Cunnington, Greenwood etc. I would be surprised if we went for someone outside McKenzie, Docherty and Ellis or possible a KPF however, I'd prefer one of the HBFs.

Hey Joshen
It all depends on what mentality North go in with, If they are after the best available then Adams is your man, but if not would not be surprised if McKenzie was picked up both are very good players. Hayden Crozier is an interesting one for North aswell could spring a surprise and get someone with that X-factor that you desperatly need post Boomer Harvey.

Nelson is an interesting one. A local WA lad and could go at 20 to fremantle leaving West Coast with a choice of a McKenzie or Ellis. But if he slips through to 23 who be tough for West Coast to pass up.

have it on reasonably good authority that GWS want to pick Adams up within the top 15. Have been in constant contact with him, and have flown him up to bp. not saying he is definitley going, but from what I have been told thats where he is expecting to go from his discussions with them.

That could be interesting, Possibly Adams over Smith at 13?
If this were to occur it could allow Smith to fall through to North at 18. The Roos would be very happy with that outcome, he is just the sort of player they are looking for. Someone with speed, endurance, good kick, and can kick goals.
Possibly could be seen as a Brent Harvey replacment?

I think North already have a player to replace Boomer in Keiran Harper. He is quick, can play inside and outside and has the ability to kick goals from nowhere.

I hope we don't take Nelson with 23, seems solid overall but we've got enough solid midfielders as it is. Need somebody with some genuine pace and footskills.

I am pretty sure I read somewhere Nelson had a 2.83 20m Sprint time, you don't get much quicker than that.

Happy to be corrected if wrong.

would be a happy man if the blues pick up an inside midfielder at #22, I doubt Taylor Adams will last til our pick and I certainly rate him top 15. Grigg seems like a smart and pure footballer with not so much athletic ability, but with the past experience with McLean, will we pick up another not-so-pacey inside mid again?

Ran a 2.87 sec 20m sprint, ran a 8.13 in the Agility test and got 97% efficency in the kicking test. He runs a 15+ beep test and is probably good for 3km well under 10 minutes.

I Agree, I think/hope we pick up any of these three players pointed out, for me Ellis because he follows North.

I hope Nelson Lasts to Ricmonds pick 26, if we could get one of Kavanagh, Adams or Greene along with Nelson I think we would have added exactly what we need early in this draft.

I noticed he slipped through to 56 in the BF phantom, very surprising, IMO he could end up one of the best players to come out of this draft. I have a feeling the recruiters will rate this boy higher than BF does.

By the way, great effort on your phantom.
