Started listening to this band about 4 months ago and went through Louder Than Love, Badmotorfinger and Superunknown and found them all pretty good albums. Reading online about the band I found there to be a reasonable divide between what people believe to be their better album mostly coming down to Badmotorfinger and Superunknown. I personally think that while Superunknown is more consistent and is a quality albums I prefer the standout songs on Badmotorfinger such as Jesus Christ Pose, Outshined, Slaves and Bulldozers so much so that I would say it to be the best.

What does everyone else think.

love Superunkown, not a bad song on it and it was all i listened to when i was 15.

to be honest i thought their other albums were a bit patchy and its a shame they didn't release more.

Arguably my favourite band of all time. I'm in the same boat as the OP. Badmotorfinger just have has an edge to it.

Favourite song would be No Wrong No Right off Louder Than Love.

I'm with Crownie. Superunknown was just awesome and the others just didn't compare for me. I got their Best of the B-Sides album and there were some hidden gems on that one.

Badmotorfinger changed my life and still makes me feel great things whenever i listen to it.

Superunknown has aged a little bit for me. I dunno if its because i've listened to it so much, but i cant really get much more out of it, while i probably listen to Down on The Upside more than any of them and still think that album gets an unfair rap in some circles.

But Badmotorfinger will always be hard to push off my all time #1 album perch.

Heres a great thread on it from a few year's back.

Superunknown is still their best for me. Just a fantastic album, and it has three of my favourite Soundgarden songs on there. Limo Wreck, 4th of July and Like suicide.

I love Soundgarden and am lucky enough to have seen them play live (unfortunately that also means I'm getting on).

Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are both great albums, but I would have to say I enjoy Superunknown more by a sliver. Even when it came out, I couldn't believe that it sounded like 16 single-quality tracks put on one album.

I'd agree that "Room A Thousand Years Wide" (for the riff and vocals) and "Jesus Christ Pose" (no explanation necessary) are their best two songs, though.

Huge Soundgarden fan....remember search through dozens of record shops in about 1990 trying to find a copy of BadMotorfinger and been totally blown away. Fav songs - Jesus Christ Pose and Mind Riot.

Saw them at the Palace around 1994 and it was one of the hottest gigs I've ever been to (literally). Absolutely brilliant.

For me, Badmotorfinger any day.

DOTU is such a vastly underrated album. It's brilliant.
I spent the whole of '96 with that album in my stereo.
'No attention' always did it for me.

I still would rate Badmotorfinger as the top of thier game though, but it's pretty close to second place.

With RATM and now FNM, I'm holding out for a reunion.

For some reason, despite what many others say about them , I have never been able to truly get into Soundgarden's Music. I always thought Alice In Chains was the superior Grudge band.

4th of July and Kickstand are my favourite Soundgarden tracks for the record.

superunknown when it came out was labelled as a "sell out" due to the single released early on - ie spoonman. For me it has to be one of the darkest "selling" albums of that period. Both albums have their pros and cons - but overall super pips badmf at the post - for me.

It's easy to forget (for me anyway) how good Soundgarden were when you see Chris Cornell's post-Soundgarden work and the majority of it being utter garbage.

Cranked up Badmotorfinger last night for the first time in ages and it's still an absolute gem, definitely one of the albums of the 90s. Prefer it over Superunknown, but both are fantastic.

A tie between them and AIC for my favourite Grunge band.

Love both albums.

Shame Rusty Cage hasn't rated a mention.
I love Fell On Black Days, Mailman, The Day I Tried To Live and Fresh Tendrils from Superunknown.

A couple of people have mentioned Alice In Chains here :thumbsu:
Easily my favourite band

Yeah while I would put DIRT by Alice In Chains above it in terms of darkness and despair it would probably rank highly on the list.

In my eyes Superunknown is absolutely a sell out.

I must have been somewhere between 8 and 12 when it was released. Not into music at all. Yet I can still remember the advertising prompting me to force mum into buying it for dad. Perhaps for fathers day or perhaps for his birthday.

That's not to say that it's not also a good album. Though I don't really know. When mum got it for dad I can't remember listening to it much.

Just for quick reference, other albums that I would have forced the purchase on at a similar time was Ugly Kid Joe - America's least wanted and East 17 which was perhaps a self titled album? I can't remember the name if it had one. But it had classics like Everybody in the house of love on it

Yeah I saw East 17 too when I lived in Seattle. They were one of those small-time Portland bands opening for Green River (I think) that night, but I tell you what, 'Deep Deep Down' was probably the most heart-wrenching, dark and pretty much devastating performances I've ever seen from a grunge band. I always think of East 17 when I think of grunge. Vedder and 'Black', Staley and 'Angry Chair' have NOTHING on what the performance of 'Deep Deep Down' that night.

Never was a huge Soundgarden fan, though I did (and I guess still do) own BM, SU and DOTU.

BM was the best of the lot. SU was fairly consistent in terms of production and sound, but never did much for me. DOTU ddnt have their best work, but was okay considering the time.

But I still listen to songs like Jesus Christ Pose and Drawing Flies every now and then.

:thumbsu: - Superunknown was the first soundgarden album i bought so that's why it probably resonates most for me album wise.
JC pose was however the first song i recall hearing on a compilation cd

For those who havent heard it, buy/Download their tune "Birth Ritual" off the Singles soundtrack.

Cornell's vocal performance on that tune is insane and the riff just doesnt give up.

:thumbsu: cheers for the remind.

thats a pretty good soundtrack for what the movie actually was (ie a rom com)
