I am in the same boat as nutstar. We faced some terrible injuries this year, which I think was the main reason we weren't able to crack the finals this year.

I wouldn't mind a review of how we're developing our ruckman, though. Nothing awful, just to see if we can improve it in some way.

I am very much on the fence with Zac Smith and Tom Nicholls.

Recruiting is another issue.
on the fence with smith and nicholls.. Does that mean gorringe is already on the wrong side...
1 more year of our ruckman playing 10 or less senior games before injury.. And we'll need to chase a recognised 'A' grade ruckman..
No point having superstar midfielders and no ruckman

I agree with most of that.

However, Recruiting? How do you figure?

Kollar and Lemmens were awesome pick ups for us this year.
I'm with you. I don't think our recruiting has been that bad.
O'Meara and Martin still needed a recruiter with aggots big enough to pick them despite knowing they'd be unavailable for 12 months. 16 clubs are now crying over missing out on them.
Lemmens & KK were exactly what we needed.
Every club has plenty of misses. Hawks let Kennedy and McGlynn leave, both better players than Zorko.

Surely one of them stands up in 2015 after yet another pre-season.
They all average around 20 hit outs when main ruck. One of them needs to take this to 30-40.
They all average less than 2 marks a game!
Primus was a fine tap ruckman, he has to develop one of them or more! Not to win every contest but simply not allow opposition mids to lick their lips whenever they play us.

If the club does make a move on Bluey, it has to be to an experienced and successful coach, like how Freo went from Harvey to Lyon. If Thompson really is not interested in coaching again, then this really only leaves John Worsfold as an available experienced coach. To move from Bluey to another untried assistant would not be beneficial, and we'd rather let Bluey see out his contract next year to make that call.

Essendons lost a development coach and possibly bomber... If were making a play for coaches this year.. Better be quick
Whats happening with a new CEO too? Favourites?

It seems like Travis has the job in his grasp. You wouldn't think it would be long until it gets announced

As far as Bluey is concerned it would be madness to replace him with another "learner" coach
Unless Thompson was keen we should stick with him for next year at least
I can't really think of another premiership coach out there that either wants to coach again or hasn't retired into a good media paddock
Williams might be interested I guess, but he's always struck me as a bit mad
(or unless Kenny H wants to come back!)

Bluey getting replaced is pure fantasy. Build around him. Hes not the devil, bloody hell.

Agree, i can't see Bluey going, no obvious replacement such as a Clarkson / Roo's etc so why would you change

only reason would be IF the player unrest rumours were true.

I'll believe it when we get a source or direct quotes

I heard it from the club championships or I read it in Hammos article does not cut it for me

If we had better development coaches... And were a little more advanced... We wouldn't even be mentioning bluey..
Our biggest problem or 1 of is clangers/turnovers
Im sure bluey doesn't teach them how to kick..
Though he should prob look into someone to work with there kicking

Clayton does both. He looks after contracts, but he's also the head honcho when it comes to recruiting. Ambrogio sits under him.

Sunny_,

Not that I want to be accused of hijacking your blog or being a troll - But has the question ever been asked of these guys why Matty Payne has not been invited to pre-season training to see what he could bring to the Table???? - His NEAFL form speaks for itself and even with a three year mature aged draftee contract he would IMO be worth his weight in gold for you guys!!!!!!! Two Grogan's and a NEAFL MVP as late as this season just passed.

I am backing Bluey in.

There has been a couple times over the journey where he has made mistakes but just like the players he is a learning coach. He is well renowned as a very good footy brain and I am a believer of this. Perhaps he lacks motivational skills somewhat but I think just like the players he is getting better. He had absolutely **** all to work with in the back half of the season. I cannot believe people are blaming him for that. We were decimated. Fielding the youngest sides we have ever fielded etc. What did you all expect?

I truly hope that this shit about their being player unrest is just that - shit. If those boys do not have the heart to approach Guy themselves with issues such as training standards and ran to media (as well as supposedly ZeJackal at the Champions dinner lol) then they should take a good ****ing look at themselves. We will never be a succesful organisation and sporting team if there is not good communication through the departments. I am glad we have a very good board who do not take note of knee jerk reactions. They will do their due dilligence and I suspect Bluey will be our coach next year.

As for Clayton, there are a couple things I am sus about in his recruiting mantra but overall I have liked what he has done. I will comment further on him after this offseason. I want to see what he does to bolster the list. We need some experience, hardened bodies and depth.

I am however hearing a lot of rumours of Bomber as our coach next year. Which just doesn't sit well with me despite him being a fantastic coach whos style I very much like. I just feel for Bluey if this is true, Bluey is not a bad coach.

Bomber could be the Tim Sheens of the 2006 Tigers...who knows? A lot of similarities between Bomber and Sheens....both old, wise dogs, with a lot of winning history with young sides...

Or Bluey could be the Bomber Thompson of 2005? You can come up with a million different scenarios like that yet they mean nothing until we know the full context of what is going on. We never will. Just have faith in our board, they are good at what they do.

I just received some information which was both shocking and compelling. Bomber may just be our coach next year...

Everything comes out.. Give or take a day or 2.. But dont be getting in to much trouble.. As much as i am intrigued

Exactly. I am still not 100% convinced but I am about 90% at the moment. Pretty intense stuff. If true I feel for Bluey, he is not a bad coach by any stretch and he essentially built this team for half a decade. Brutal business is footy.
