it's like he started to introduce something in his way, but the producers thought different.

Just clutching at straws again, for the millionth time. Anyone gonna call for Caro's head. #CutCaro
Lyon has backed her in to be correct 100% he has put his head on the block saying she has it right and is only a matter of time for Essendon to get clear air from his settlement and legal issues, I think Hird is staying at EFC and not necessarily because they want him

No I don't think they want him as well. But when you put all you eggs in the one basket, you can't afford to drop the basket.

There is some element of the Essendon board, led by Simon Madden, that do want Hird gone. I believe that when Caro pushed the button, that element of the board were convinced they had the numbers to oust Hird. Maybe they actually did, but things might have changed when James threatened legal action and some players still loyal to Hird threatened to walk, and those who were on the fence jumped back into the Hird camp. I'm willing to give Caro some slack here.

Why? Caro stated in her article that Hird was gone, and even tried to defend herself on Footy Classified that night. She even backed herself to be 100% correct, and that he would get the flick after the board meeting (or on the weekend). Yet Hird is still the coach today.

Exactly. Her story was on The Internet and the very first sentence was that Hird had been stepped down. An hour or so later that sentence was removed.

The Age article tonight...

Had Hird been sacked, Thompson would have been the top candidate to replace him. With Hird, at least in the short-term, remaining, the Gold Coast Suns will be free to pursue Thompson for their vacant senior role.
The Suns are likely to put all candidates, including Thompson, through a thorough interview process, but this could finish even before the Bombers have greater clarity on Hird's future, meaning having Thompson as something of a back-up option again would be over should he be given the Suns' job.

He can interview, but better off saving his time.

All the quality assistants are at other clubs and will not be released to take another assistants job elsewhere, see Dew to Melbourne last year

Sanderson is still free, and he's rumored to follow Bomber if he gets a head coaching job somewhere.

The Essendon board voted to keep Hird as the senior coach for 2015. Crows expected to announce Phil Walsh as their senior coach today (bye bye Dangerfield). Surely this means Bomber to the Gold Coast is a done deal?

Not if the SUNS don't see Bomber as their number one option

Are the so called sub committee going to interview anyone for the vacant coaching position ???
or are they just waiting for bomber to return from Mexico.

So Bomber says he wants to continue being a senior coach in the AFL. Essendon is now off the table and the Crows will probably also be off the table later today. The Suns decided to sack their head coach of 6 years. I just don't believe they would be careless enough to fire McKenna only to replace him with another rookie coach. So who else is available with experience? Voss and Mark Williams are the only guys I can see as other options but I think Bomber is ahead of those two on the preference list.

I also don't think Malceski would have signed unless he had a very good idea on who would be coaching him next year.

The last 3 premiership coaches have all been at their first club

So therefore all have been inexperienced at AFL level when they started coaching their future premiership teams.
To just generalise like that is unfair. You have to consider where each team sat on the ladder when the coach took over and how long it took them to get the premiership.
  • Alastair Clarkson - Took over at the start of 2005. Hawks finished 15th in 2004. It took Clarko four seasons to win a flag with the Hawks.
  • John Longmire - Took over at the start of 2011. Swans finished 5th in 2010. It took Longmire two seasons to win a flag with the Swans.
  • Chris Scott - Took over at the start of 2011. Cats finished 2nd in 2010. It took Scott one season to win the flag with the Cats.
Both Longmire and Scott were given teams that already had finals experience and were top 5 teams in the league. Clarkson actually built the team up from the bottom and it took him four years to accomplish that. Even look back at how long it took Bomber to build the juggernaut at Geelong. He was a rookie coach when he took over the reigns at the Cats.

We'll with Malceski signing on, the job just got that little bit more attractive.

If they are after a someone with premiership coaching experience (as Bluey says / not confirmed by club) it may not necessarily mean head coach. Maybe they are looking for someone who has been involved in a premiership winning coaching panel/environment who knows what is required and the uncompromising attitudes needed to achieve success.

That brings guys like Bolton and Dew into the frame ...... and I'd be very surprised if they didn't want the gig.

IM not sure why, but as a rule, NRL coaches take a while to find their feet in finals series while AFL seems to throw up young men ready to handle it all the way. One could say that the IQ across the board of AFL players compared to NRL players gives an indication, so does the press confrences (serious ones) of AFL coachs and their NRL counterparts.

AFL people just seem more cerebral. Which would make kids more coachable, administration more supportive and young leaders singled out really do have exceptional qualities.

I remember a famous quote. It was aimed at Black American generals or those whom had climbed the ladder to success. "he must be good, he's black...". Which infers there is a certain prejudice against black (Americans at least) aiming at top jobs. The same could be said of Brendon Bolton., "He must be good, he never played AFL..."

Whatever the reason, AFL seems to throw up good leaders. Perhaps its the game that demands it, and therefore the nature of the men who succeed at it.

Na, all depends.. Maguire coached the rabbitohs to 1 game away from a gf in.his.first and second year as coach and premiership first year.

Roosters coach first year premiership coach.
Geoff toovey also has coached grandfinal

Roosters, Eagles and Souths have possible the best admin surrounding a club. There are exceptions, but as a rule, AFL clubs generally give these young men a go purely based on their capabilities. Believe it or not, Geoff Toovey and Hasler are also into the NLP stuff....(im a Manly fan)
