I watched a few games of both NWM and pickett in their draft years and wasn't that impressed with either of them. Funny how wrong you can be based on a few games 😂
Did you see the game he played against our SANFL team? For a scrawny stick it was fantastic, better than Horne Francis game against us in his draft year (which was a good game don't get me wrong).

Decent player, but imo you are overstating Bailey & his value.

Imo, I wouldn't rate him above these 8 players for starters...
Dawson
Thilthorpe
Rankine
Worrell
Curtin
Fogarty
Soligo
Keane

Sure, pay overs to get him to move, but crazy to pay him $1M pa.
Why is it crazy to pay it if it’s available to pay? Is that extra $200,000 in the salary cap really going to do that much? Especially when that can easily be covered with front-ending and back-ending contracts at different times for different players.

Answer me where you would rank Bailey in our squad, because the way you are talking you have him at the top, which imo is crazy.

Imo, just sneaks into our top 10.

No, he'd be worth it; he'd be a great pickup. I'd like to pay him less because I'm a tight arse but if he was around that mark, as long as it was 5 years, I'd be OK with it.

Worth making Bailey our highest paid player?

If he wants to return home for family reasons, why do we need to pay a massive premium?

Surely the first 3 are already getting at least $1m. The others will all probably with their next contracts. The salary cap has finally risen to an amount where players are getting rewards they deserve considering the TV rights.

Unlikely any of them are

Nope.

Amazing list management if true. I know AFL players are not paid well, especially considering the game generates billions, but surely Rankine didn’t move here for less than $1m.
He sure did!

He wanted to come home to play for the club he supported.

Our top players are well paid, but we haven't gone crazy over the top with salaries like other clubs.

That should be reserved for attracting the likes of NWM.

It was originally reported he was offered $850K. Another article claimed $950K. Another article came out later stated it was $4M over 5 years (around $800K per year)

Then there's this:

The AFL Rich 100 understands Rankine is paid around $700,000-$750,000 across the life of his contract depending upon performance-based clauses.

This is the same range we should be offering Bailey if he wants to come for family reasons.

Making him our highest paid player for $1M pa sets a dangerous precedent.

He would easily make the top 10 talents in squad, ranking top 10 players is complicated in teams because you have your top 10 talents but that gets mixed up with structural integrity players, you listed Keane in your top 8, who is structurally integral to the team but is not near the top 10 talents on the list and you could argue Fogarty’s structural integrity in the team elevates his position a couple of positions higher on your list too.

But overall I’d have Bailey currently below only Dawson, Rankine, Thilthorpe and Worrell. Curtin overtakes him on that list probably by seasons end but in terms of a combined talent, proven record and skill set I think he’s ahead of Rachele, Fogarty and Soligo right now.

So do you pay that extra amount to get a player who’d be the 5th/6th most talented on the list, who has scope to improve when played more in the midfield? I just think it’s an easy decision… also it will probably come out in the next few weeks he’s signed a long-term extension with Brisbane so this exposition will no doubt become totally moot.

Need an update Saturday. Apparently NWM has signed with Saints for 4. Bummer.
Better than going to Port.

Wasn't coming to us sadly.

Imagine port will be right into him as well if its next year as a FA. Might turn into an auction

We have the advantage of not having a crap squad, so reckon he would prefer success.
