Influenza A this year has been absolutely horrendous. Floored my healthy 24 year old for three weeks!
Exactly. Nuffies on here discounting the flu as if it’s a sniffle have zero understanding of how much it can shut your body down for weeks on end. Is absolutely possible it was a major reason why we were so flat during finals.

Bailey would be the better get

But there is a less than zero chance that’s happening this year

There is no way Brisbane will release him while they're in the premiership window

"The Flu" translates to every sniffle known to man these days.
Lets be real, we werent that flat.

I agree with the sentiment but if not him, then who do we have or first pick quarantined for ( one of the ITKs said this)?

I guess it could be for the draft.

Why stop at the flu? It’s also possible that the entire team had parvovirus or hepatitis. There is zero evidence that any crows player had the flu. This is nothing more than a made up coping mechanism.

There is ample evidence that before the finals even began, we were in poor form, including creeping over the line in games against two of the worst sides in history.

There is ample evidence that our midfield was regularly annihilated throughout the season by good, average and poor sides, and struggled to get their hands on the ball with any regularity.

There is also ample evidence of players and coaches panicking under finals pressure and making terrible decisions.

If people want to blame a phantom influenza outbreak, that magically impacted the Adelaide crows and zero other teams in the league during a finals campaign, and ignore the fact that Brisbane just made a GF with an injury-ravaged list (including a multiple Brownlow winner) and yet another key in-game injury in the prelim, and the Pies smashed us with several of their key players out whilst coming off a horror stretch of form of their own, then that’s fine. I wonder how we would’ve gone in those games if they were away from home?

Illness or no illness, Rankine or no Rankine, we are way off a grand final, and the teams who annihilated us when it mattered weren’t good enough to make one either, which speaks volumes.

There was evidence there was illness in the group from interviews with Tex Nicks Dawson and laird who all sounded crook.

They also knew that everyone was aware and could tell so they just said yeah it's going through but we're all good and not using it as any excuse.

The chance of a mini epidemic of parvo or hepatitis A in the majority of the team is vanishingly small. Influenza however is v contagious and debilitating but if that was the case then the club is negligent for not vaccinating all or at least most of the squad - highly unlikely this is the case. RSV is a possibility though and quite virulent - there is a vaccine for this but it’s still quite expensive and not widely used yet.

I got married the weekend of the North Melbourne game

My folks and an aunt and uncle drove over from the Yorke Peninsula for it

My mum ended up being crook as a dog, soldiered on during the wedding night but then dropped like a deck of cards and was bed ridden for the rest of her time in Melbourne

Mum, my Aunt and my Uncle all ended up getting smashed by it, and my brother (who was down from Brisbane but stayed with my mum) also went down with it (somehow Dad avoided it - just felt a bit flat but otherwise fine)

Mum tested pos for Influenza A

Luckily I didn't get it from her, but it was sad as she was supposed to stay at our place on her final night but she was so sick we just paid for another night in the accom she was already in

Obviously the bug was brought over from Adelaide - if the players had any of that it wouldn't have been fun

Completely agree re the Flu Vax - there is a 0% chance the players wouldn’t have been vaccinated against Influenza A and B.

Honestly I can’t believe this is even being discussed. We weren’t good enough to make a GF and that fact was absolutely nothing to do with an illness, end of discussion. Our midfield is horrendous. West Coast, who went 1-22 this season, led for the vast majority of the day against us. North Melbourne’s midfield annihilated us. The Pies midfield annihilated us in the minor round game where we inexplicably beat them with 34 less inside 50s. There’s a clear pattern.

Lions and Cats clearly the best two teams in it, and them playing off in the GF was really the obvious prediction prior to the finals series even beginning. Should be a great contest next week.

Except we were flat for the three weeks leading into the finals.

The truth is we were worked out.

After the Hawks game, we were suddenly the flag favourites and opposition teams started doing their homework on how to stop us.

One of the more sensible trades floated on the Dees board

Dees give - Trac, pick 23
Crows give - Picks 14, 41, 48, Future 1st
Suns give - Flanders, Pick 31

Dees get - Flanders, pick 14
Crows get - Trac, pick 31
Suns get - 23, 41, 48 (Equiv pick 15 in points), Crows future 1st

If you are a list manager at another club our 1st round next year would be very appealing.

I think it's too much

I don't agree, I think there was a noticeable drop in intensity from our team after the Hawthorn game and it was less about teams 'working us out'.
