There’s a difference between once in a generation at club v AFL level. Tex id argue was a once in a generation forward for us. But nowhere near it in terms of league wide.

Lyons was behind a few because of poor selection though. We drafted Peds knowing it would take a couple of years for him to build a tank, but the fact we havent seen him or Rash in the midfield at all, despite both of them having decent stints in 2023, is another example of poor selection and game day management.

Imagine drafting two first round forward/mids and not playing either at any stage in a midfield that screams out for some x factor.

Gross mismanagement of defence minded unimaginative coaches & incompetent player development has cost the careers of Jones, Schoenberg, and potentially Pedlar, Taylor, Draper and possibly Edwards & Ryan. Fagan played eight players drafted since 2021 in the Grand Final ! Giving preference to coach's favourites Murphy, Smith, Sholl, and Cook has cost the development of these players. Nicks needs to removed before he destroys the list !

People have been saying this about GC since basically they came into the AFL and it's resulted in a grand total of 1 finals win. Had a piss easy draw this year too and still couldn't secure that top 4 spot by beating a depleted Port side.

Maybe this time is truly different under Hardwick, but I also thought that when they got Eade.
