Yeah I made the call a couple of weeks ago and I'll still stick by it - but if he keeps playing this way he'll force the AFC to retain him, and if so good luck to the kid for sheer bloody hard work and persistence:)

But we are committed to a mass list overhaul so there will be some players who have played well who will still be delisted (trades probably unlikely)

I calculate 4-6 players to be delisted, not taking potential trades into account, and including retirements.
(Carey, Smart, Burns, and Stevens to retire)
So who are the leading 4 candidates mid-season?

He won't be traded. No other club would want him.

The options are delist or keep him on the list. And it's probably in the balance right now.

He's caused a tingle in the executioner's underpants just as the axe was poised to fall.

In the past two weeks Skippy has moved from 'definitely gawn' to 'suck it 'n' see' on the whiteboard.

I agree.

No other club would want him so he won't be traded. If he continues to play like he did in the last couple of weeks he might be kept on as a depth player. He will never be a star but he might be kept for depth purposes IF and only IF he continues his form of last 2 games.

If he can continue to play like he has the last 2 weeks he won't be a "depth player", he will be a walk up start every week.:D

I think maybe he has turned a corner and finally picked up the pace of AFL. Time will tell there, but let's hope so.

Young players have up and down weeks and we can't expect players like Reilly and Skipworth to play like they did on Sunday every week - people need to be realistic.

But with a bit more footy under their belts both may turn out to be good AFL footballers, Reilly possibly even better than that.

Skipworth would not be a delist on what he has shown when given an opportunity.

Well - let's see. We probably want to make eight changes, or so.

RETIRE - Smart, Burns, Carey, Clarke.

STAYS ON THE LIST - Stevens, for one more year. Well, we can hope.

TRADE - Massie, Bode, Burton, Perrie, Stenglein. There's a market for all these guys - though we would of course need to be realistic about what we would receive.

DELIST POSSIBILITIES - Gallagher, Schuback, Shirley, Ladhams, Rutten, Mattner, Scott Stevens.

Personally, I wouldn't delist all of these blokes. Maybe the first three, plus Stevens.

I think we do a Perrie/Stenglein for Waters and a third round; Burton and Massie to try and bring back one or two of those players from that great SA draft class of a couple of years ago (Rivers, Schulz, Bell, Faulkner, etc), and just move Bode to a better situation for him.

That's mostly midfielders that are going, so we need to ensure we're bringing others back.

Stevens won't get delisted as think he still has a year of a contract. Schuey & Mattner are must keeps. Shirley probably would be safe too if we trade Stinger as you suggest, as we need a run-with player. We should get a better indication on Rutten by seasons end. Gags & Ladhams are in danger for sure.

Shirley has been very solid this year and done most of what's been asked of him

Would be very stiff to be traded

Ladhams and Gallagher are in trouble which is shame as they both have potential in my view.

If we lose Smart Burns Carey and Clarke, that's already one more than we have to get rid of

I reckon 3 or four will be delisted at most. Perrie is in big trouble I reckon. And probably Ladhams and Gallagher

Skipworth should not be traded. IMHIO (in my humble and Ignorant opinion :) ), he is another Tyson Edwards. Reminds me a lot of a young Edwards. Plus, the guy has done well in every game he's played. C'mon ladies and gents, give credit where credit is due. Every game he's played this year, he's been hard-at-it and also scored goals.

Now PERRIE on the other hand... Well, everybody on this board is probably familiar with my assessment of him. He is definitely gone. Maybe the club can get something decent for him after all if they make the case that he wasn't being played correctly by Ayres, etc...

On another note, it was great to see the guys playing with a flair and joy that I haven't seen since 98. I just hope in 10 years time we aren't all talking about how we lost the best years of McLeod's career by playing him under Ayres.

How fast were we moving the ball out of defence??? I haven't seen rebound and movement like that in about 2 years! Everybody looked like they were on speed, they were streaming down the ground so quickly. Good to see that when a player took a mark at half back, he didn't step back and wait for the opposition to flood back into defense before bombing to a contest (as under Ayres) but rather looked for the immediate handball to keep things moving.

Well done boys!!!

Finals, anyone??? (OK, just a joke there.)

DELIST POSSIBILITIES - Schuback
They wont get rid of Schuback. We are yet to see the best of him and the AFC will be keen to give him as much opportunity as possible when he recovers from the shoulder reco. They need to see whether he can play at AFL level before shipping him off because that wouldnt be fair.

One of the great things about Skippy is that he has persisted and worked hard on his pace and agility.

Against the Demons he played his own size, dodging players like there was no tomorrow.

I used to think that Hayden's biggest flaw was that he didn't have enough tricks for his size, but he's beginning to prove me wrong.

As much as I hate it I have to agree with you Bockchoy.

He was a definite to be delisted 5 weeks ago, but his last three weeks have been quite good.

My deletions from the 2004 squad are as follows:
Carey
Smart
Burns

And the following:
Gallagher
Perrie and Stenglein for Waters and draft pick or Sam Butler

Also every rookie except Andrews.

The following people need to be looked at:
Massie
Ladhams
Rutten
Mark Stevens - if he cannot overcome injury
Scott Stevens

And please would everyone now agree Doughty must stay on the list - but not take kick offs. His courage on Sunday could once again not be questioned. His use of the ball by hand has been teriffic all year.

And stop being so easily pleased:rolleyes:

There is only about 3-5 players that are "must stay on the list" and Doughty is definetly not one of them.

If anyone wants him come trade time they are more than welcome to take him off our hands.

Of those Ladhams is in danger but personally I don't think he will be delisted.

Why the hell would you delist Schuback?????? Please enlighten me. Besides its not going to happen. He is under contract.

Scott Stevens is under contract and as such will NOT be delisted. He is still only 22 and has shown that he can play. His main problem is his inconsistency. Again why the hell would you delist him??????

Guys and Gals
So far, some have nominated players who will retire as part of their list of players to delist.
Others are sitting on the fence and being ultra conservative.

Fact is the AFC has said the list will be "drastically overhauled", with up to 12 changes to our list.

We're getting 2-3 players being nominated so far by board members, but it will be 4-6.
Players you think are safe will be gone if trades cannot be arranged, as few trades are in fact done each year, and getting fewer.

So lets make the tough call, whose gone !

BTW Perrie and Stevens are on contracts, so can only be traded.

Here's my list in order of delisting:
Shirley
Gallagher
Rutten
Skipworth
Bode

A couple may be saved if Stenglein and Perrie, or Burton can be traded.
Rutten will be the tall to be delisted, Perrie and Parker offering perhaps more flexibility, and a tall to be added via the draft.
Midfield cleanout in preparation for midfielders (hopefully Cooney) to be taken in the draft.
Doughty to offer more flexibility than Skipworth at this stage.

Thats about right but I don't think Bode will be delisted. Craig will have him back to his best by the end of the year. Pitty he got injured because his game against doggies and his 1st quarter against demons was encouraging.

I reckon there will be a lot of players shopped around. Rutten really has to prove he is capable of AFL footy in the next 8 weeks. I think Doughty will be shopped around like you wouldn't believe but whether or not someone takes him is another issue all together.

It wasn't fair when we delisted Crowell was it? And Crowell showed a lot more than Schuback. Fair means nothing in this game.

Wayne's World: If Rutten keeps playing well at FB, we will keep him as he is big strong and capable of playing at both ends - he is the only really bulky KP we have - and more flexible than bloody Perrie! Skipworth and Bode should stay, and Shirley if we trade Stenglein.

As for Scott Stevens, I don't agree with Stiffy. He may have 'potential' but I don't think he is much more than average at best, and we can't keep every 'possible' on our list - otherwise Perrie wouldn't be trade talk at the end of the season.

Stiffy he's last on the list to be delisted and probably will be saved by any trades that eventuated.
