One thing about our success and how we operate differentley to other sides is quite unique.

I know Mick loves role players and everything revolves around the team which has been the cornerstone of our success and has to be applauded.

What strikes me as strange is the inconsistent performance of all of our players outside the top few players.

Ranked in order our top four as far as consistent week in week out performance are.....

Scott pendlebury, Heath Shaw, Dane Swan, Dale Thomas,

The rest of the players on the ground is what makes the difference, how they peform determines the outcome of the game and we seem to be different in that it is never the same guys week in week out doing the job.

Dont get me wrong this is not a critisism at all but players like Steele, Beams, Cloke, Blair, Krakaour, BJ, Leroy, Ball, Reid Wellingham and pretty much the rest seem to play like champs one week and be very quiet the next week.

The thing is when some of those mentioned are down others have cracking games and pick up the slack, it is a complete lottery as to who will play well and who will not out apart from the top 4.

I personally see it as a weapon as it is highly unpredictable as to who to focus on from an opposition piont of view but for me it is highly unusual and it seems these players just dont put in two or three bad games in a row, in fact they quite often put in a bad one then a great game but the order and the player is jumbled and not predictable.

IMO most other sides do not have this, they have players on their list who play to expectation most weeks bar first or second year players.

Imagine we all click at once!!!!!!!!!! I love this aspect of our side but wonder why it occurs and how???

In many ways you answered your own question..

who to focus on from an opposition piont of view

Who plays well, or rather best, is sometimes determined by who the opposition target to shut down in any given game.

Swan, Pendles, heater and now Thomas are not able to be shut-down for a full game.(not to say they don't have a quiet one now and then.)
The rest of the side are so even and individually competent that no matter who you do shut-down another couple will benefit from the freedom.
Not just week to week, but from quarter to quarter across the whole side.

I could be just pulling the old fella here, but that's how I see it.:)

I think both Cloke and Toovey have really got the job done as well this year, along with the ones you mentioned in Swan, Pendles, Shaw and Thomas.

Sidebottom's form has been better than people give him credit for as well.

We'll be stronger when Beams gets back on his bike, but I think the real key is Didak. If he can overcome whatever problem he has then I think he offers a great deal to the team. If Jolly comes back fit and firing then I think that will spread it even further and we'll become less reliant on certain players.

Stars are expected to perform week in week out, just like the lesser lights are expected to shine every now and again. That has been a common trait in Football history.
During this year we've had Brown, Sidebottom, Krakouer, Wellingham, Blair and Toovey pop up and have a major influence on games, nothing to worry about.

Who said i was worried????
Just asking the question about inconsistent performance and how our lesser lights as you put it, seem to mix performace a lot more than other sides do.

I dont care as long as we are winning but you cant argue the fact we mix it up more than any other team.

Which sides would that be?

The obvious one would be Carlton. If Judd and Murphy are quiet they will generally struggle.

Is that a reply to my question?
If so I was asking for the opposite....
