The West Coast Eagles have been bolstered by the return of Brownlow Medalist Chris Judd, fellow 2004 All-Australian midfielder Chad Fletcher, and vice-captain Andrew Embley for Saturday night's 2005 Wizard Home Loans Cup grand final against Carlton at Telstra Dome.

The Blues have named skipper Anthony Koutoufides in a 28-man squad pending a test on the minor knee injury that forced him to miss the semi-final against the Western Bulldogs.

Judd, Embley and Fletcher were rested from the Eagles line-up that thumped the Kangaroos at Subiaco Oval by 80 points last Friday night.

Jeremy Humm and Mark Le Cras have been excluded from the squad named for the Kangaroos match while injured first-choice trio Andrew McDougall, Phil Matera and Dean Cox were not considered for selection.

Koutoufides and Simon Wiggins come into the Carlton squad in place of Setanta O'hAilpin and Adam Bentick. The Blues elected not to take a chance with young utility Jarrad Waite who will miss with a minor hamstring strain.

The squads will be trimmed to 24 for the grand final.

Good to see Waters back in the side too. Racking my brains as to who we leave out.
I do however have a funny suspicion we wont be risking Gardiner for this game, especially with the season proper just around the corner.

woosha has said he will name a good side to win.
Does good mean not the best?
maybe someone like banners will sit out or a fletcher.

maybe the inclusion of Membley means gardiner will skip.
But i seriously doubt it he needs the run.

I think the taller, faster, stronger, younger team will win.
Carn yous Eagles!

i don't see why the eagles shouldn't play their best line-up!! y wouldn't we? it will probably be the last time they play together before the real season starts, so we should play our best team to try and start to gel as a team..and why shouldn't gardiner play? if his knee isn't alright then he shouldn't have played any games at all so far!! i say wack in our best team n thump the blues and send a warning to all the other clubs that the mighty eagles aren't going to be an easy team to beat this year!! CMON BOYS!!!

the inclusion of embley is a suprise. makes me think a tall might not play or might not get up? having said that if he did play there would be afew more established players pretty upset.

me thinks we may have taken him for experience and insurance. i dont think he will play.

my 4 to miss;
adkins
selwood/butler (one of)
mcconnell
m.embley

or grayham.

With no talls coming in I think Grayham will stay..deserves it too.
adkins, mconnell and m. embley look loke missing out.

Number 4..... very hard, probably Butler due to restricted game time so far.

I would drop the two guys who aren't any chance for the rd1 team.

Jaymie Graham
Michael Embley

and two more from fringe players...

Daniel McConnell
Damien Adkins
Sam Butler
Rowan Jones

Michael Embley won't play... he is purely named to show that the selectors well and truly hold him in high regard.... Adkins is out..... Butler is a chance to be out due to lack of fitness and just looked like he needed more WAFL time.... and McConnell would be unlucky but he has had 3 good hitouts in the pre-season and he is one who may benefit from a rest... he was starting to look a little tired last week.

Seriously though... Rowan Jones????? last year yes... this year he has been one of our best players this pre-season. Guys his height that can mark like he does and run all day don't grow on trees... He is like a smaller 2nd Centre Half Forward we can go through his hands are that good.

No way Selwood will be left out, hes racked up like 20+ disposals in all 3 games and would get a spot way before a player like Butler or Wooden would. Selwood is rated alot higher then most people think. Dont be surprised to see him playing for us when Round 1 starts...

I've been saying for over a year how good Selwood is.... he is so classy with the ball... he has the talent to be our 3rd best midfielder after Cousins and Judd... and better than Kerr and Fletcher

personally, id make it graham, embley, adkins and chick.

dmac, butler, waters and selwood are in to good a form to drop and chicky is getting a little old and needs the rest.

Hmm, I'd go

Adkins
M. Embley
Graham
McConnell

No complaints about Dmacs performance so far, but he has played every wizard cup game, but is in slightly less 'undroppable' form than someone like Selwood. I definitely would not drop Butler as I feel its in our best interests to get a bit more form and match fitness under his belt.

Having said that, I'd also be tempted to keep Graham in to just make sure we're fully stocked with talls.

Brett Jones, Sam Butler and Michael Embley will not travel to Melbourne, while Daniel McConnell will travel as the emergency.

So the final 22 are:

Michael Gardiner
Chris Judd
Daniel Kerr
Tyson Stenglein
Drew Banfield
Chad Fletcher
Ben Cousins,
Michael Braun
Josh Wooden
Mark Seaby
Damien Adkins
Daniel Chick
Rowan Jones
Quinten Lynch
Beau Waters
Darren Glass
Ashley Sampi
Ashley Hansen
Andrew Embley
Adam Selwood
Adam Hunter
Brent Staker
David Wirrpunda
Jaymie Graham

Emg: Daniel McConnell

Butler a bit stiff but overall you gotta be happy with that lineup.

Unless Bones has been told to have the week off and have a guaranteed 1st round start, that's downright harsh on him- he was unquestionably one of our best afield against north, and is actually a guy whose absence i think might hurt us a bit.

bit surprised by bonesy's ommision, I guess waters comes in for him and can offer a bit more versatility.

a week ago I couldn;t care less who in or out and if we won or not, but all this Carlton lip is getting too me so I want to win and win big.

Can't believe he didnt make itin the 24

He was fast becoming one of my favourite players

I actually watched the replay on Fox during the week just to watch the incident half way through the second quarter, his singleminded hardness to get the ball no matter who was around was almost woosha like :(

Does that mean the final changes from last week are:

IN - Andrew Embley, Chris Judd, Chad Fletcher, Beau Waters

OUT - Brett Jones, Sam Butler, Daniel McConnell, Jeremy Humm

I am a bit surprised that Damien Adkins and Jaymie Graham made it over Sam Butler and Brett Jones... but when you look through the squad there are no real passengers anyway... I am glad that Selwood has been kept... but i think 'Bones' should have been retained.

_________________________________________

David Wirrpunda - Darren Glass - Daniel Chick
Tyson Stenglein - Adam Hunter - Brent Staker
Daniel Kerr - Ben Cousins - Michael Braun
Andrew Embley - Ashley Hansen - Ashley Sampi
Michael Gardiner - Quinten Lynch - Beau Waters

Mark Seaby - Chris Judd - Chad Fletcher

Drew Banfield - Josh Wooden - Jaymie Graham
Damien Adkins - Rowan Jones - Adam Selwood

I'm disappointed that Bones has been dropped. I'm a huge fan of his (hence my 'sponsored player' on EFH). He's been in very good form so hopefully he will be back in for round 1

graham is going in ahead of bones? weird. big oppurtunity for the kid.

butler and dmac to miss out, too. oh well, they will get their chance as soon as a couple of injuries crowd in.

I like Jones.. ALOT... but I understand where Woosha is coming from. I still think Jones will play Round 1..... Jones is a 22 year old "rookie" and Worsfold and Co know what he is capable of.... would Jones get as much from a WC GF than someone like Jaymie Grayham or Beau Waters? I think its a good move by Woosha.... also the way Carlton play they leave a lot of the backline open... Jones is a straight ahead sort of player.... and Carlton's gameplan may not suit the way he plays as he won't be running onto the ball so much from the backline.. as he will be having to run backwards into defence and take it away.... which suits more Wirrpunda, Waters, Stenglein type speedy backmen.... not the straight ahead into the pack type.
