Ah. The only thing that could possible improve the Squiggle - Faraway Tree references :thumbsu:

Final Siren - Joe, Beth and Frannie?? In my day it was Jo, Bessie and Fanny :straining:

My brother and I lost it when cousin Dick came to stay with them. Enid Blyton must have been taking the piss lol. We also lost it when Moonface was bawling and inconsolable after Mr Whatshisname gave him a spanking.

PS back in infants school, Silky was ranked 2 on my Top 10 Babes of Children's Entertainment list, just being beaten out by Penny from Inspector Gadget.

Final Siren

may have been asked/answered already but what has been the biggest rise/fall in one round? hawks fall looks fairly big and ports initial jump was quite a big one. how would they compare to previous big movers?
Port's Round 1 effort against Sydney would have been a top 10 move last year. Gold Coast's thumping of the Hawks, which is the current biggest move of the year, would have been the 4th biggest of last year.

It's harder to fall down than rise up, and less affected by things like weather conditions, so it's interesting to look at. To fall a long way on the squiggle, you have to be rated fairly highly to start with and then get thumped. It also helps if you lose at home to an interstate team. Last year, that was West Coast in the Elimination Final, as they lost to the Bulldogs 52-99 after looking pretty decent in the previous three weeks by dispatching Adelaide, GWS, and Hawthorn.

So far this year, the worst fall is Hawthorn going down to Gold Coast, which is about the same magnitude as the 2016 West Coast crash. The second biggest fall is Sydney going down to Port Adelaide, and third is Hawthorn again losing to Essendon.

As for modern history, Fremantle getting destroyed by wooden spooners St Kilda in Round 18, 2014, was a huge drop. But the biggest was Collingwood at 21-1 going down to Geelong by 96 points in the final round of 2011.

I was very young (5-6) when I read these books/other Enid Blyton ones
I can thank her for learning the now quaint meanings of Dick/fanny/gay/queer long before the modern ones . I also remember using *brick* in a different context haha.

She sounded like the fairy god sister I always wanted , but never had
I would've done anything to taste her pop biscuits /google buns too

When I was doing my placement in a Grade 1 class a couple of years ago, the teacher was reading The Faraway Tree out to the class

That version was written as Fannie, but she read it out as Frannie because it was 'easier'

Final Siren thanks for the great work as always. Question - is there a way to reduce the size of each team's icon? I don't know if it's just my screen, but they are pretty big and and obscure recent turns in the squiggles.

Respect goes out to the Swans. Lost their last five games, and still in a solid squiggle position.

I think Richmond are about right for now. Finals caliber, but have largely been beating up on lower table sides. Squiggle will adjust accordingly if they routinely beat strong opposition.

Are there historical flagpole figures? Highest ratings? Premiership teams' ratings?
You can view flagpole for any year via https://live.squiggle.com.au -> Change Year -> Flagpole.

I haven't compiled lists like you mention... I'll have a look. I'd bet that Geelong 2011 is #1, though, like on regular squiggle, as they were not only a really good team in their own right, but also kept beating up another really outstanding team in Collingwood.

That 2011 Squiggle is nuts from both Cats and Pies!

Look where the Pies were!

I notice that the numbers are all much higher. I take it that the flagpole mostly goes up during the year, so current flagpole ratings can't really be compared with end-of-season ratings.

Geelong 2011 were good, but Essendon 2000 were better. But go back a bit more, and the ratings go all stupid. Check out Geelong 1994 and 1989.

Just trying to replay the 2000 season in sliding doors for a specific result (Essendon unbeaten only loss gf)

But this one I didn't mind

Essendon went 22-0
Lost the qualifying final to Geelong by a goal
Rebounded to win the semi vs Brisbane by 3 goals
Got through Carlton in the preliminary by 7 goals
Then got their revenge vs Geelong winning 251-44

If you can bring it up final siren
Sliding door 3,904,337,507 with 5% luck

Took ten minutes to accomplish it
And we get a Brisbane 4peat out of it.
Essendon 22-0
Beat Brisbane and the bulldogs
Brisbane rebound taking down Sydney (in et) then Melbourne before winning the gf by 4 goals

Some weird results coming up in just 5% luck
The one I liked the most was Essendon winning the grand final by 389 points (393-4) over Richmond
