say all our players a fit mcgrath lee dizzy lets pick this squad
waugh gives u 1 spot

the squad
1 hayden
2 langer
3 ponting
4 martyn
5 hodge/katich
6 love/boff
7gilly
8 warne
9 lee
10 gillespie
11 mcgrath
12 bichel
13 clarke
14 watson/williams
15white

id like to see white and clarke tour with the team, gr8 players of the the next era ease them in

-with 2 batting spots in the first 11 hodge katich boff and love look like being the players

-watson/williams if watsons fit and can bowl take a punt, as for willams he gives you another bowler, with macgill, hogg, inness and bracken knocking on his door for that spot

what are your thoughts

Clarke has not justified a place in a test squad yet IMO

His stats are average at best

Batting & Fielding 34 62 3 2147 134 36.38 7 9 29 0

Last year was reasonable and has boosted his average but it must have been pretty crap before that.

MJ Clarke 10 17 1 763 134 47.68 61.73 4 2 10 - NSW

He has a long way to go. Has the talent no doubt, but let him nuture it at first class level before we rush him into the test matches.

fair call, but with him and white, 1 maybe 2 should go on tour just to be there to ease them in with the likes of warne mcgrath ponting hayden and gilly around them will help them so much i think

Hate to put a dampener on ya team but White and Hodge ain't got a hope. Magill and Hogg will get picked before those two. Boof will get a spot because he is one of the best players of spin in Australia.

No Macgill? Sorry mate, but if you're only gonna choose two spinners, one of them come back from a 1 year break with very little matches under his belt, and another who's still green and making his debut, then they'll get slaughtered by some very good players of spin.

And yes, Boof will come back, and Clarke should be in the squad as well.

White and Clarke still have some work to do before making a test spot, IMO. This is test match cricket we are talking about, you need a very solid first-class record, over time, to be in the running for a test position. These guys will no doubt play tests one day, but whilst they are young the selectors will be making sure they earn their stripes before throwing them in the deep end.

And for those putting someone elses name in beside Katich's (e.g Katich/ Hodge) you are kidding yourself. He will be a permanent member of the Australian test team for a long long time to come. He already looks like he's slotted in beautifully, and is now one of the "boys". Just sit back and watch a great career unfold.

re: spots 5 & 6 with waugh gone by then those 4 players will be playing for those 2 spots. 3 of them might get in to the squad
-hodge imo has been stiff, he his having a gr8 summer and has been batting well for a long time

-as for white and clarke it will be a long shot for both of them to tour, in saying that when you have the likes of hayden ponting warne gilly mcgrath lee and dizzy in the same side you can ease a clarke in, he might only play 1-2 tour matches but it's the whole thing of being around those guys

-australia has to look 5-6 years down the track the warnes gillys... arn't going to be around forever, just give 1 young bloke a tour and it will help in the long run

just my thoughts
