SS comments

Im pretty new here and new on SS. For the last few yrs most Saints supporters ive known have been at the least a little critical of GT. But i gotta admit there does seem to be a little GT bum kissing happening on SS:D:D

Love how the GT thread has gone off rails by usual people and just become the usual pissing contest.... Doubt GT will be back on there! Been about 7-8 pages since his last post!

He's back on SS, dont really want to talk about SS too much but I just read his response to question about tanking and what he would have done in 2000.

Original Question
Grant,
read your comments re Melb tanking, being critical of the AFL for creating an environment that encouraged "tanking" (whatever tanking actually means).

Would be interested to know if you had been coach in 2000 and we were in danger of not qualifying for the bonus pick (the Roo/Kosi double) - how would you have coached the Saints in the final few games - particularly if we looked like winning?

How long do you have Enrico?
Short answer is this. The Saints had been a basket case for approximately 95% of their existence (around 130 years). Our role was to earn respect, provide sustainability and become a seriously competitive - and ultra consistent - factor in the competition. These are all aspects that had haunted our club for over a century. We did not have the luxury to do anything other than set incredibly disciplined and high standards of effort, intensity and professionalism. This was agreed by the playing group early days and our job was to manage them to those standards. It would be hypocritical to espouse agreed values and behaviours required to change the culture and spirit of our club and then "off-field" take a "lets hope we lose" approach. We were not in the position to allow that as we were desperate to instil habitual standards. The other factor was that we felt the club had, for too long, lauded the individual and we needed to come together as a team and not be reliant on individuals. In essence personnel was irrelevant. Things like selflessness, integrity and effort were the mantra rather than people.

Great answer by Thommo but it would have seriously diminished the clubs chances of any short term success by missing either Roo or Kosi. And if this became a factor in team planning or game day strategy then to my mind the system is wrong.

interesting stuff

Just back on the Club representation on this and other boards..I think Thunda makes a relevant point. Mr SF buggered it up for a lot of people with his sites obsession for recognition with the club. Many of you know his history already but I have no doubt it's made the club run a bit scared with official contributions onto Fan Forums and the like.

I'm more than happy with the clubs presence on social media. Luke Holmesby is a very approachable guy who often engages with fans on Twitter, He's a huge fan just like us after all. Theres also club staff who hover around and occasionally " off the record" contribute to forum discussions I can assure you of that.

is SF = saints footy

if so, yes, i have had a run in with him as well. the bloke is a dead set mental and its embarrassing to have him as a fellow supporter. his offsider, although nice, enables his behavior.

the thing i love about this board, is theres level headed mods on here, who arent affraid to pull people into line, in the right way. ive had it happen to me a couple of times and they were right. i hope the club recognises in some way the work Kildonan and co do in maintaining a positive place to discuss everything st kilda

luke is doing a fantastic job. i love his work. the way he writes. the increased content. cant say a bad word about him. club deserves huge praise for poaching him from the afl.

Mods on here don't get enough praise to be honest. Exactly as when umpiring is done well, you don't even notice that they are here, but when needed they do exactly what is required.

Well done to them all.

Feeling the love on bigfooty tonight :hearts:

I love yous mods: Kildonan, Look2Me4Guidance, Squizzy1970. Oh, and a special thanks to foregone mod, sainter.
Wow - thanks

To be honest modding is a breeze ATM - there are hardly any interventions required and the board ticks over on its own accord usually with really high quality posts from great posters.

I might not reply to every thread but I usually try to read everything so I end up feeling feel like many of you are close friends (despite not ever meeting most of you).
