Hibees
I've done a lot of trolling on this board and its just struck me now, a few beers to the good, that while I've trolled every club in the comp, I've always ended up exchanging kind words with opposing fans and having a laugh, or sharing an observation, about their club and having a good time.

All except one.

St Kilda.

St Kilda aren't just a shit club - although plainly they are. They are a nothing club. Every accusation that can be thrown against any other club can be happily stuck on them too. They have nothing.

So what do we make of them? They aren't even strictly speaking the worst (Freo have no flags), they've had all the financial problems of others, they've flogged games, they've had dodgy players, the whole shebang. They have nothing to hang their hat on. They are simply nothing.

That said, I'm hoping people here will be able to extract a single thing about St Kilda worth noting. Something, anything.

So fire away. Give us your thoughts about St Kilda and we'll see if we can't get something that makes us go - Oh Yeah, The Sainters, They're Alright.

North Melbourne - clubbus soon extinctus :thumbsu:

We've heard enough about the poor old Saints, we know they are mediocre but they should be around to see North die.

Ah yes, a tasty meal left unguarded will soon attract some blowflies.

Now, if there are anyn non-bummunchers here lets get back to the matter at hand - St Kilda.

One thing I'll give them is that when they won their only flag, their captain was wearing the opposition jumper when he collected the cup.

But I suppose other sides have had that happen and cause St Kilda have only won one flag, the jumper-wearing just cancels it out, leaving them with nothing.

I secondus that.

But as a positive, after North go extinct, as a positive, all the Norf memorabilia will actually fetch some value on eBay. :thumbsu:

True that, there isn't much memorabilia going around atm in fact there never has been, you might have struck a gold mine bD. :D

The only thing I can think of is that despite how pathetic they' are they've produced some champions over the years: Darrel Baldock, Ian Stewart, Trevor Barker, Tony Lockett, Robert Harvey, Carl Ditterich and Nicky Winmar to name a few.

I've been buying it all up over the last couple of years in anticipation of the future value shooting up. I'll open my own boozeDragon NORF MUSEUM in Frankston as a testimony to the club. I've bought a few handy items including:
  • a straw previously used by Wayne 'Rooboy' Carey (for what I'm not sure);
  • A Kelli Stevens pregnancy tester;
  • Love letters between Carey and Kelli (mostly one liners from Carey with the words "I'll bone you later when Ant is doing stuff" - ahhh the days before SMS messaging...); AND
  • The first paper drafts of Laidley's famous 'Gibson formation'.
Not too long to wait now until the bitches go bankrupt. :thumbsu:

The poor souls, finishing their VFL/AFL careers with out ever knowing success. They deserved better.

Not many other clubs could have so many home grown champions that won the same - or more - number of flags at other clubs than they did at their own.

Like I said, nothing club.

They've never cheated or tanked as far as I'm aware...

They've been through enough 'rebuilding' phases to qualify as tanking for mine. Every premiership window that opens must have seen a season close.

On cheatng - wern't they involved in the siren fiaso at Tassie?

The damage is most obvious on Harvey - lured straight away to Carton.

Maybe St Kilda - according to time honoured tradition - only paid him 78 cents in the dollar for his wages?

Well this is a fascinating read so far.

I imagine your couple of cans of Light Ice left you with that warm feeling that you could take on the world from behind your keyboard.

We have nothing eh? Well I think we have members for a start. Even when the Saints were struggling they would always attract supporters, who were prepared to put their money where their mouth is. Even at their loftiest heights, NMFC, Kangaroos or whatever you are known as this week always struggled to attract membership. I believe we've also had a consistent home ground. We haven't needed to visit Sydney, Gold Coast, Canberra and the like for a sustained period unlike your mob. We gave Tasmania a shot and it didn't work out, but we did it by choice, not by necessity.

I particularly enjoyed NMFC supporters suggesting that Hawthorn's 2008 flag was tainted because they played home games in Tasmania. However I believe in 1999 NMFC played home games in Sydney as well. So does that mean the 1999 flag is also tainted and in fact West Coast were the best team of that decade?

However the NMFC will always have Shinboner Spirit, it's just unfortunate that 99% of the supporter base cling onto this notion without having the faintest idea of what it actually is.

In fairness, Harvey only went to Carlton because any coaching job at St Kilda would be difficult in light of the fact that he has played with most of the blokes at the team. It's not easy to switch to an authoritative role over previous teammates. Michael Voss will probably find this difficult as well. They may have respected him as a teammate, but it will be difficult to attain the level of respect a coach deserves.

And St Kilda only paying 78 cents in the dollar... well well well, a North supporter criticisng another team over financial issues... I thought I'd never see that. :o

This will be a bitter pill for SweetLeftFlog to swallow.
Sometimes reason and logic just go missing with that bloke. :D :D :D

May i also add L2MG, that in 1999 North weren't the best side for that year either. Unfortunately though, they did win the flag.

It makes up for the loss in 98 when we were the best side.

I threw marshmallows at your coach after a final that year. That was pretty cool.

Never thrown anything at a St Kilda coach though.

Thanks for that, it was the best thing that ever happened to our club.

It was the catalyst for some of the best football ever played by arguably the best football side to ever grace the field.

Cheers. :thumbsu:

Drinking Light Ice, being a keyboard warrior and throwing marshmallows. You are hardcore my brother.

Must have been a superb side to kick 2.15 in the first half of the biggest game of the year.

St Blunda ..... says it all.

It still doesn't explain why you drafted Leigh Brown, nor does it explain Dane Swan's ridiculous tattoo. Nor does it explain why Nick Maxwell looks like a tiny teddy. So I'm afraid your post is factually inaccurate.

So good you lost to Carlton also rans in the PF the next year?

And then only won a single flag from your best side ever in the history of best sides ever?

Still, in one year you did manage to equal St Kildas lifetime total.
