I love the "if you criticise the rules, you must not play by the rules" argument.

Freo: Pavlich, Mundy, Fyfe, McPharlin, Ballantyne, Walters, Hill, Barlow, Neale, Sandilands.
There needs to be a 60 minutes special on how you can have Riewoldt, Pavlich, Sandilands, Fyfe, Goddard, Milne etc and across 15 seasons win nothing. Staggering really.
Same people who believed Elwood Peckett was a chance to slip into the second round of last year's draft...Some of the of the draft watchers don’t seem to think he’s even draft worthy at this point. OP is completely talking out of his arse
You’ve lost the plot brother. I know you want to try to give us some of our own medicine but not gonna happenHard to say because we don't know how Fincher is going to be viewed in October. If he becomes a top 10 prospect, then a team like Melbourne with pick 4 likely will bid on him. If he is valued around pick 20 then the Dees likely won't bother.

We atleast we can say with out the afls had out and assistance your club defiant would exist. If you say so.
Out of curiosity, why does your club exist? The Saints are 1 premiership ahead of a team that's never played finals, despite having been in the competition for an extra 114 years.
No. That will end up being Brisbane.
It makes sense that Bassat would be looking after his own team's interests.
Same way St Kilda weren't considering the fairness of the competition when they joined the raid of Brisbane's former first round picks for cents on the dollar in 2013.

Founding member of the VFL there champo. A real football club.If you say so.

Facilities are overrated. Saints won 20 on the bounce training out of a facility from the 70s in 09.lol every advantage, they didnt even have anywhere to train when they came into the competition ive heard a few saints supporters say this, you've got no idea what you are talking about
Come on Vinnie...You should try and keep players, rather than them hating their new club and wanting to run out the door.
That’s because you were already a developed club that had existed almost 150 years you absolute pelican not a brand new team with 18 year olds from interstateFacilities are overrated. Saints won 20 on the bounce training out of a facility from the 70s in 09.
Nice.I suppose if I'd endured failure for the best part of 150 years, irrelevance for the past 15, and going from being well ahead of Hawthorn, Melbourne and the Bulldogs in support to being behind all three of them, I'd also be looking to point the finger at someone else to excuse it.
Yeah, and we’ve never received the preferential treatment that Northern academies have received in our 150 years:That’s because you were already a developed club that had existed almost 150 years you absolute pelican not a brand new team with 18 year olds from interstate
I don't know what your issue is, this isn't a kindergarten game where everyone gets a turn.Nice.
Coming off 3 flags in a row (and 1 last year) and complaining about the expanded VFL to a supporter who has likely seen 0.
I have tried to reconcile this but I simply can not.
You'd been around for 90 years at that point. Consider yourselves lucky, Fitzroy never got a real replacement ground when they similarly got thrown out of Brunswick Street.Yeah, and we’ve never received the preferential treatment that Northern academies have received in our 150 years:
- We got squeezed out of St Kilda (Junction Oval) up until the 1960s in favour of Victorian cricket which nearly saw us eradicated as a club. Didn’t see the VFL administration use the excuse of growing the game in St Kilda back then.
Academies didn't produce a first round talent for several years, and rarely more than one in a year until 2023. They aren't an excuse for St Kilda drafting poorly and taking McCartin over Petracca, Billings over Bontempelli, Clark and Coffield over Naughton and the less good King brother.
- Post 2010 grand final, compromised draft system is introduced to expand the game Rugby league territory, and here we are.
lol its just so embarassingYeah, and we’ve never received the preferential treatment that Northern academies have received in our 150 years:
- We got squeezed out of St Kilda (Junction Oval) up until the 1960s in favour of Victorian cricket which nearly saw us eradicated as a club. Didn’t see the VFL administration use the excuse of growing the game in St Kilda back then.
- We move away from St Kilda (Junction Oval) to Moorabbin in 1965 and finally get a 1st premiership in 1966 then in the VFL’s infinite wisdom they hand out our zones along the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston to Hawthorn which sees us lose generational talents like Leigh Mathews, Dermot Brereton, Gary Ayres etc, and of all zones we receive Ballarat (logic at its best, right).
- After decades of turmoil, the VFL comes to its senses and abolishes these zones and we go back to receiving talent from the heartland (e.g., Harvey, Burke, Spider Everett, etc).
- Equalised draft system is implemented and we narrowly lose 1997, 2009, and 2010 premierships.
- Post 2010 grand final, compromised draft system is introduced to expand the game Rugby league territory, and here we are.
Surely, the AFL have other mechanisms to growing the game in rugby league territories, besides a compromised draft rort, which evidently we haven’t received in 150 years and have also lost generational talent to these sides (e.g., Lockett).
Of course it isn't.I don't know what your issue is, this isn't a kindergarten game where everyone gets a turn.
its the same rules for everyone, unlike all the advantages melbourne teams have, its just so embarassingI don't have to leave my home state to watch my team play home games.
Arguably the best player available in last year's draft went to the premiers who had exclusive access to him, with no compensation to any other team, solely because of who his dad is. It perverts the objectives of the draft for no benefit to the competition.
I have more tolerance for the northern academies, and would be satisfied with one player per season selected outside the draft per northern team. The father-son rule cannot be made fair and should be abolished immediately.
I mean, its the same advantage the LA and NY teams have in the NBA. There are easily fixable issues (like the father-son) and not easily fixable issues (the fact that the large plurality of clubs and football enthusiasts in Australia reside in Melbourne).its the same rules for everyone, unlike all the advantages melbourne teams have, its just so embarassing
You know you can win the premiership without a father son just like "interstate" teams can win the premiership with additional travel, an away grand final, retention issuesI mean, its the same advantage the LA and NY teams have in the NBA. Having a league help decide winners on the luck of biology (sons instead of daughters) sounds more embarrassing to me.
Doesn't happen that often any more. Makes it harder, is inherently unfair, entrenches structural disadvantage, and is easily fixable, unlike moving every club back to Melbourne. You know you can win the premiership without a father son just like "interstate" teams can win the premiership with additional travel, an away grand final, retention issues
It doesn’t happen often because everyone has had fathers sons not because you can’t win without itDoesn't happen that often any more. Makes it harder, is inherently unfair, entrenches structural disadvantage, and is easily fixable, unlike moving every club back to Melbourne.
And provides no discernible benefit to the competition.
Also this topic is mute because the father son isn’t going anywhereIt doesn’t happen often because everyone has had fathers sons not because you can’t win without it
