St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

How are you still parroting this same nonsense after having the reality of the situation explained to you about 400 times over the past few weeks?
I could detail every real reason st Kilda are in the position they are but I would be here for awhile and you would be there going but but but father son isn't fair, dont worry about your trading, your drafting, your developing, your coach, your game style lets complain about things that aren't going to make st kilda any better, classic st Kilda

the father son rule is not the reason why st Kilda is in the position they are in and its not the academies either, its an excuse that your fans have latched on to instead of looking internally
some fans might believe that but most reasonable fans wouldn't, And i highly doubt St kilda as an organization would think that, they are just arguing for rules that best suit them just like the northern clubs are. It would obviously help us as a club if our competition didn't get discounted highly rated draftees since we are so dog shit at getting them ourselves :p

I personally think F/S should be abolished and just let the clubs work out a way to get them at the initial draft or a few years later at the trade table. Northern clubs should have their academy but eventually lose priority access to all of them, once their is enough players in the draft coming from other states so interstate clubs start seeing some homesick kids coming their way.

The classic can't walk and chew at the same time argument

We're getting the classic hits of "I don't want to engage with the merits of the argument"

I'm still yet to hear a cogent argument for why the father-son rule benefits the game

does 10 teams in Victoria benefit the game? lets get rid of some then, same logic, and its a great tradition to see father sons and I think they would leave to just go there anyway, draft Nick daicos and he leaves to go play for Collingwood anyway and now you are worse off

We did get rid of two of the shit ones. It's why you and Sydney exist.

First of all, Collingwood would have to come to an agreement for a trade with the club that had Nick Daicos. The current situation offers no compensation for the team who tries to draft another club's father-son. Having to trade for the father-son would give the other club fair value for the player or the pick, like PA had to do to acquire Horne-Francis.

Second of all, there would be less fans if any number of Melbourne clubs just disappeared. Eliminating clubs reduces fans, reduces revenue and therefore hurts the game.

Horne francis sooked it up and left after 1 year, 3 years development and then trading out a top end talent would be a negative benefit

Eliminating clubs would have short term pain for long term gain, those fans would eventually support other teams, the game is no worse off over Fitzroy and south melbourne and is fact much better because of it, also strengthening the supporter base of both clubs

that's the risk you run with any draftee and the risk anyone who drafted another clubs father son would have to weigh up.

Look i understand why you like the rule, a lot of clubs have had great success with it and your finally starting to see some of your own. It also shouldn't be hard to see why fans of clubs who haven't been able to capitalize on it are getting sick of seeing Collingwood average a father son every 2 years.

It's wildy random, we might see the father son tally somewhat even out in the next 30 years or we might see only a handful of clubs get all the father sons for the next 30 years.

You won a flag and you're still near 40k members less. Piss weak effort.
lol 40k look again, Last 20 years I keep hearing about how Carlton and Essendon are a big club, its actually so embarassing and delusional, you've achieved nothing in the entire time we've been a merged club, in fact you've won the least amount of games since 2000

Not to mention we now have an 85milllion training facility and an incoming 3.8 billlion stadium to play at life's pretty good as a lowly Brisbane supporter

oh I forgot to mention we are the reigning premiers and ended your season 2 years in a row, shame we cant do it this year kanga kanga kanga did that for us

We're utterly shit and we have 100k members.

"The Brisbane Lions have announced a new club membership record of 65,000 members for the 2025 season, according to lions.com.au. "

Piss weak.

Naming a bunch of shit you didn't pay for.

Still leeching off the AFL to the tune of 29 million a year. North only got 25 million. St Kilda 23.

If the AFL didn't prop your club up with all the money and closed shop player avenues you'd be ****ed.

I would of thought Carlton supporters would have more pressing issues at the moment

except you've paid him for 5, sounds smart, this thread is about draft access/st Kilda not how shit Carlton have been for 30 years so stop hijacking it

It's about how you're not as good as you think you are because of all the bullshit assistance that you get given that St Kilda do not that gives you a massive leg up they don't get.
