St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

Father son is a meme rule that a pro organisation would reject.

If father son has to be exist then fair payment must be made.

If a player is bid at number 1 then the club needs to get the number 1 pick, if the club cannot get the pick then it is what it is. No more 4x later picks = a top 5.

Want the player, get the pick.

Somehow people are struggling to get this argument.
actually laughable

But why would you make fun of his club? :(

The problem is as soon as I pointed out how ridiculously flawed his idea was he couldn’t actually defend his argument. Sad!

what sad is how much time you've devoted to fighting with St Kilda fans on ANY subject since September last year

ive already had this conversation with him, ive pointed out his idea is impossible and stupid, what does he want some sort of live trading??? just make the entire draft wait 2 weeks until an agreement is made on a trade???

One of the dumbest suggestions ive ever heard

But why would the club that wants to draft the FS voluntarily trade their pick to the other club so that the other club could draft the player using their pick!

it's an observation, you have invested alot of time to argue with St Kilda ppl lately

Such is my commitment to helping the saints be great again.

One of the issues is certain Saints posts are raising incoherent arguments. The fellow who raised this crazy pick trading idea that makes no sense in practice is a good example. Paul Gallen could employ better reasoning and judgement.

Completely valid point from the Saints and if any of the big clubs had pointed it out, where would be much less backlash and snarky remarks about their history. The Saints past incompetence is irrelevant here and they are just sticking up for themselves.

Either every club should have a zone priority or none and there needs to be strict rules surrounding them. Otherwise the AFL will continue to bend according to their agenda.

Each year, the draft becomes more and more diluted and means less when you know where every player is going

I had lunch with Ross yesterday. I said "look Ross, quit the bitching and focus on getting better, dont worry that our current pick 4 will become pick 9, dont stress out over our 2nd rnd pic becoming pick 42, just concentraste on drafting better and getting things better off field. Elixuh said it's just luck they've had 4 high first-round picks in 5 years, despite making prelims, forget about GCS having 7 1st rnd picks in 3 years, they're from Qld so they need high cheap frdp's to even the field with all of us privileged Victorian teams."

I could see it in his eyes that he knew it was the truth.............................

thats sarcasm btw

See Ross understands what is required. I've never really said I have an issue with RTB. Just Fred Bassett and his constant drivel.

Zones don't work, history has taught us that already, the NGA zones prove it again

Why isn’t Fred taking a principled approach and refusing to cultivate FS talent?

Alternatively, why doesn’t Fred STFU and get on with it. That seems to be what St Kilda are doing now that the AFL has privately told them to STFU.
That's the real takeaway from the revelation that St Kilda will be establishing this new F/S academy. They failed to convince the AFL that their self-righteous criticisms of the F/S and academy rules should invoke change and were likely told to shut up about it. So they've finally done what they should have done all along by getting on with it. It's very much a case of 'if you can't beat them, join them' for the Saints.

Now put the proper amount of money/resources towards this new F/S academy and develop the upcoming Riewoldts, Hayes and Montagnas into draftable talent over the next five years, just like every other club is doing with juniors in their academies. It's entirely possible that the next Nick Daicos or Sam Darcy will come through the St Kilda F/S academy if they run it correctly.

Sarcasm detected!

Where Pick 4 ended up each year:

2024: Pick 4
2023: Pick 6
2022: Pick 5
2021: Pick 6
2020: Pick 6
2019: Pick 5
2018: Pick 5
2017: Pick 4
2016: Pick 4
2015: Pick 4
2014: Pick 5

If you finish 4th bottom and can’t make do with pick 5 or 6, perhaps the issues at your club run far deeper than you realise.

I literally said it was sarcasm, well done

i'd think pick 4 this year would be 5-6, 10 could easily be 14-16

how about Pick 10's history? That's more no mans land territory, and the region far more likely to be affected.
hows 1st pick of 2nd round gone?

pick 4 is still the 4th pick available, you should not have access to other teams father sons or academy players in the first place

NGA on the other is the real rort and needs to go, maybe this years best and fairest he will get up there and say how unfair NGA's are but I doubt it

and even if the entire draft was un compromised st Kilda would still be in the same place it currently is, TDK was very average tonight - imagine 1.7 mill for TDK unbelievable

Yep, I mean there's a lot of whinging and not looking internally. Did the academy force St Kilda to overlook Christian Petracca? How about an ounce of looking internally? Not hiring coaches that just think about defence would help too yes you need defensive structures but you don't need to be only worrying about it, release the shackles and let the boys play. Lyon was completely the wrong hire.

Has St Kilda been unlucky absolutely, but every single club is at some point. The Pies with their great system had two top 10 picks in Sharenberg and Freeman (sorry I had to bring it up mate) that failed. You don't see the Pies whinging from the rooftop do you? They looked internally and fixed the stuff, then hired the right coach.
Damn if only we could have gotten

Blakey
Heeney
Campbell
Mills
Goulden

Sit down , two things can be true at once. Do you think at Kilda has actioned those mistakes. Or do you just not look past headlines. Who do you think st kildas current recruiter is …

The point is that access allows you to stuff up more and plan.

I'd be willing for you guys to get an academy in a rich footballing area like the Hunter Valley, Shoalhaven or Northern rivers if you had the same drafting circumstances as Sydney did for they years with they moved up here.
I’d prefer no academies and no FS’s go back to simples. Besides Sydney has won premierships since then. Draft is different.

My point is still valid. Two things can be true. St Kilda has already fixed its drafting issues. So bringing this up by opposition fans is redundant.
