St Kilda complain about priority draft access in Oct 2024; now set to gain priority access to a first / second round pick via their NGA access

I’d prefer no academies and no FS’s go back to simples. Besides Sydney has won premierships since then. Draft is different.

My point is still valid. Two things can be true. St Kilda has already fixed its drafting issues. So bringing this up by opposition fans is redundant.
It's their only argument " your club is a rabblz "

They cannot argue against the points raised

It’s a repeat of this cycle:

“St Kilda is a rabble, blame that and not the academies”

“But when Bris are good they have no retention issues?”

“That doesn’t matter, it’s about protecting Bris when they’re bad”

🤪

But why
Just need to add in "all clubs should pay a fair price for father son and nga"

"St Kilda are a rabble"

I had lunch with Ross yesterday. I said "look Ross, quit the bitching and focus on getting better, dont worry that our current pick 4 will become pick 9, dont stress out over our 2nd rnd pic becoming pick 42, just concentraste on drafting better and getting things better off field. Elixuh said it's just luck they've had 4 high first-round picks in 5 years, despite making prelims, forget about GCS having 7 1st rnd picks in 3 years, they're from Qld so they need high cheap frdp's to even the field with all of us privileged Victorian teams."

I could see it in his eyes that he knew it was the truth.............................

thats sarcasm btw
What did he say?

I did argue against your 'solution' last night and you couldn't provide a response to that. Your arguments are incoherent.

It is actually better for you if I just joke around, that way I'm not collapsing your entire position on this issue by employing a modicum of common sense. No, it isn't your fault that you're a bit dull but you can't play the victim card when you can't respond to people's reasoned points against your inane ideas.

That is the AFL's interest. Protecting the northern clubs from becoming basket cases. A point well made old boy.

Are we were still pretending that Battle is an average player? He has the 2nd most coaches votes for Hawthorn.
Harry Perryman also gave band 1 compensation to GWS last year. By the same metric he is the equal 18th best Collingwood player.
Not pretending anything. Battle is a very good player.

But you got Tauru as compo. Overs.

I do think Gresham is very ordinary. Can't even get a game at Essendon.

McKay got North pick 3
Perryman got GWS pick 16
Cumming got gws pick 21 (end 1st round)

is it only Battle that was overs?

I agree with the FA compensation rationale, yes, it's formula is murky and open to interpretation, but the outcome is the right thing, lower clubs lose more to higher clubs than vice versa, so unless there is a means to stop the talent drain, we further slip into territory where 1/2 the comp has no chance of future success

St kilda got Hannebery and Jones from us via go home factor.
Sydney wanted Dan gone based on his salary, dumb of us to take him, but Sydney's cap position meant they were happy to move him on

Jones yes, Sydney was aware he wanted to be home years before
Coming out of contract at the end of the 2019 season, Jones requested a trade to St Kilda. Swans CEO Tom Harley said of Jones "everyone knows within footy circles he comes from a really strong and tight family and his desire to return to Victoria is to be closer to his family. St Kilda is the club that has expressed interest and Zak has let us know that, he has been really transparent about that...We actually had some challenges in re-signing him last time so this wasn’t totally unexpected
and based on their output, we paid overs as well

You paid miles over for Hannebury because he's family friends/old xavs bum chums with Simon Lethlean.

Someone should have stepped in and said no and that Lethlean clearly had a conflict of interest.

This was just plainly unprofessional.

This one kind of is the AFL's fault because they dumped Lethlean on you which was rather unfortunate

The bloke is an arseh*le.

If we can all logically see how ludicrous the system is, then there’s nothing else to say?

The whataboutism regarding St Kilda - “oh look they just started an academy or might get their own NGA kid” - is just silly.

Hannebery left Sydney and was going nowhere other than a Melbourne club. He wasn't available to SA or WA clubs.

Jones was 6th in St Kilda's best and fairest in his first year in a year they made the finals. Him not going on with it, sits with St Kilda. He was a bargain when you got him for a pick in the 30s.

But it is beside the point. Someone said when players come home to Victoria, they only pick the big clubs. Which is complete bs, like a lot of the stuff in this thread.

And I’m happy for St Kilda that they’re doing these things and hope it works for them - I’ve said all this.

As has been covered ad nauseam in this thread the entire system is ludicrous. Focusing on one or two things which are insular to your club is flawed reasoning for change. Luckily the afl recognise this.

I agree regarding Gresham, but you should take it up with Essendon for stupidly overpaying him.
