It's going to quite amusing if/when we grab another FA at the end of the year.
People have to understand the guys in charge now are very different to what we've had over the last 150 years.
That's a potentially risky move with Nas on a 2 year deal and the impending Tassie introduction - more fun to take some coffee meetings then throw out offers and drive up prices on others. Bailey, King and Butters could all be entertaining, watch how Fagan, Hardwick and Carr handle it.

It’s been said repeatedly by multiple people in and around the club that Nas’ wage is zero issue even with another huge acquisition

And that we have the $$$ to go again this year.
Can’t wait. Really getting up the noses of the opposition clubs.

That being said, we’d better perform this season.

Put a line through King and Butters but Bailey is potentially gettable..would slot in nicely!

That is one thing but, if we get some other players going up to A grade or higher (which will be great obviously) in the next 2 seasons and our cap would surely be very tight. I dont know the contract status of every player, but any of these players look a decent chance to go up a couple of levels in the next 2 seasons Pou, Wilson, Boxhall, Hall, Caminiti, Keeler, Garcia, Tauru, Dodson

Ross made a comment that to the effect that we ate a large amount of Nas’s new deal last year.

Watch it back. But he talks about being at 80% of the cap and needing to get to 95% and the nas signed his deal.

Well spoken young man.
Very bullish about him.

If you could chart his improvement the graph would be almost going up in a straight line. It's been an incredible rise over the last 9 months. I really wonder what his ceiling is at this point.

Obviously he wasn't drafted but he's originally from the 2020 draft group which is proving to be a hit and (mostly) miss draft. Would go pretty high in a re draft if we grouped him in it.

The fact he's like only 3rd or 4th in terms of youngsters we're excited about (say nas and Pou ahead of him, maybe Darcy too) speaks to the level of talent coming through. He'd just about be the best talent to come through in the last 10 years aside from them!

Yes exactly. Ross said we were at 80% in October, which means we had around 3 million to spend in 2025. So they likely gave Nas 2 million sign on, and only need to pay him 1 million each of the next 2 years. That still left 1 million or so.. meaning the reported bump in Wilkie Salary was likely just a 500K bonus taken in the 2025 cap.

This extra cap space for 2025 gave us a big advantage in retaining players as we were able to use 2025 salay space, whereas Port, for example, would have needed to find 1.5 million in their ongoing salary space... we could offer Nas more than them but put a load of it in to his 2025 salary.

We also front loaded King last year, so his salary drops a lot in 2026. We also lost Steeles salary, and had the space for Alleer but decided against using it on him... i.e. we could have carried both Steele and Alleer salaries in 2026 but dont have to now...

Presumably, we will be paying TDK a huge salary in 2026 to soften the ongoing salary after that

The thing that allowed all this cap space was that we were one of only 2 or 3 clubs that did not have contracts tied to salary cap rises, so when the salary cap went up by 37% a couple of years ago, we got a huge windfall of cap space that we had to spend. It seems we have not yet spent it all!

Really all making sense. 80% is about 3.6 million
23 and 24 5% saved = 1.8 mill
25 and 26 can pay 5 % over = 1.8 million
That is 7.2 mill to spend even before the contracts not linked to SC rises kicked in.

AFL gave us one loophole in SC to exploit and we get oppo supporters and coached whinging. F off and die kents.

By all accounts they are positioned for a run at a big fish this year.

I think they have beautifully managed the cap scenario.

The only thing I think that could stuff us is if Nas wants to sign on at the end of 27’ but he wants more than his current $2m.

If he continues on his current trajectory I genuinely believes he gets it

The existence of the 2M and 1.7M deals was entirely down to the availability of the money. If in the ensuing 2 years we have several players that receive significant increases then it simply might not be there.

Yep Adelaide and port have two years to accumulate picks and cash.

Leaves them in an interesting spot. Imagine trying to plan for a 2 mil player to be there but you can't be sure. How do you even do that.
If they are serious about getting they have to acquire the assets to get it done. They have to plan as though they will get him. Not going to happen though.
